I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I'm thankful to be alive, well, living in the good ol' U.S. of A., and able to type this mundane yet sincere note to all you delightful Dopers out there.

I am thankful for Being in remission from Hep. C, having my husband and son with me, for the rest of my family and friends. I am thankful that we have food to eat and a place to live.

I have feasted! (Am I the first? Maybe I am!:D)

I am stuffed, a little bit lit from 2 or 3 too many glasses of wine, drowsy from an L-tryptophan OD, and very happy.

I love Thanksgiving!:D

happy thanksgiving to all.
i have a question. what do vegetarians do on thanksgiving while everyone else is experiencing the turkey coma? i have a friend who's a vegetarian and he says he makes up for the turkey coma by doubling up on the wine.

Happy Thanksgiving, all of you!

My dead bird is getting deader by the minute, roasting away silently. The cats are quite interested in the goings on.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

I hope you all have a truly wonderful day and enjoy being with friends and family.

For those of you that are spending your Thanksgiving alone or having to work because of whatever reason, know that you are in our thoughts today. I am sure that most of us, had you lived closer would have taken you in and made you a part of our families today. I can think a list of those that will be in my thoughts today - you know who you are (racinchikki and lel are two of those that are in my thoughts.)

Proclamation of Thanksgiving
Washington, D.C.
October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.

By the President: Abraham Lincoln

Except when they wake them up and make them run to the store for salad dressing, it seems.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

We have a walnut loaf coma :D what? what!? Come on someone else must eat walnut loaf on Thanksgiving:) Well, I guess that answer is that you eat something else.

And let me just say that I would never know the first thing to do with a Turkey, as far as cooking it goes. What is in that bag inside the turkey anyway?;)

Happy Turkey Day to all on the board. We haven't eaten yet, but aren't far from it.

I'm ready for the old tryptophan overdose, myself. I'm the one that's done all the cooking since six last night!

Peace to all, ya'll! Even to you, TN*hippie, law-abiding hater of Alabamians! ;)

But same goes.

I'm so ridiculously, abundantly blessed in essentials and I take so MUCH for granted most times.

For peace, plenty, hope and chances I'm so truly grateful. Thanksgiving is the time to recognize all the abundance I've done nothing to deserve but enjoy nonetheless.

Peace, plenty, hope and chances to all.
