View Full Version : Shaved Legs in Winter

For you females who live in cold climates, or those of you who date females who live in cold climates, do you/they regularly keep your/their legs shaved in the winter?

I don't. I wear pants all the time, no one sees my legs but my bf, and he can deal. It's not just laziness, I see no reason at all to do it. In the summer, when I wear skirts I make an effort to be presentable, but when I can do nothing but wear warm pants, what's the point?

How 'bout you guys?

When I lived in a cold climate, I had the same philosophy as you, minus the boyfriend.

Hell, I still have that philosophy. I only shave my legs when I'm going to be seeing Gunslinger, and then mainly because he says I have nice legs and I wear skirts often when I'm with him.

Holy moly, losta nice options on the new version of the board! (Yep, this is my 1st post back "home"!) :D

Anyhow....I live in a cold climate (northern BC Canada) and pretty much do the same as you guys (LaurAnge and racinchikki). I'm not in an 'intimate' relationship, so nobody but me sees my legs when I wear pants, which is 98% of the time in the winter.

However, I will shave my legs when I go swimming, just because I worry that somebody will notice my fuzzies and go "ICK!" Especially some cute guy! I have red hair, so my leg hair is blonde, so I suppose it doesn't actually show up that much, but, well, I just like to shave when I swim. Also, I will sometimes shave just for the heck of it....nice nightie or slip feels awesome on smooth legs!

So, basically, I pretty much just shave when I feel like it, which is maybe once or twice a month, or less often. My mom does the same I think. (She's 44, I'm 22.)

Which reminds me, I'm out of razors. Darnit....

On a related topic, do any of you who have SO's ever borrow their razors, and, if so, do they mind? I've heard it bugs them to all heck but haven't experienced it myself, not having had to live with a guy. Except my brothers, who are rather uncommunicative in such matters.... :p

I'm even less particular. I don't shave my legs in winter, but I live in a pretty warm climate and I do wear skirts now and then. However, in the winter, the skirts I wear tend to be calf-length and I wear thick black stockings under them, so someone would have to be looking pretty closely to tell. I shave my legs regularly in the summer, though, because I feel funny wearing shorts over furry legs.

Nah, can't be bothered half the time, but then I'm lucky to be blonde so it doesn't show even if I do end up flashing my legs in winter.

Also letting it grow is softer than having endless stubble anyway.

It is fairly cold yet where i am and yet i still shave my legs in winter, i also keep shaving my armpits. I do not care how soft the stubble, or for the colour of the hair on my legs, it seems to be a darkening blonde.

I shave in the winter, but far less than I do in the summer. I can't sleep if my legs are too hairy. I have very dark hair and olive complexion, so you can really notice if I'm not shaved.

My hub says he doesn't mind, but does comment when I do shave. In the summer, I can sometimes shave two times a day.
In the morning and if I'm going out and take another shower, I shave again for that 'just shaved' feeling.

Another blonde here checking in. I shave less frequently in the winter. My skin chaps and gets a lot more dry patches when I shave in the winter, so from about Dec. to March or April, I only shave if I absolutley have to.

Come spring, though, the routine starts again in earnest.

I shave my legs every morning when I take a shower. I am a brunette and have very fair skin so if I don't shave everyday it's very noticable. Plus I can't stand the way it feels when you wear pantyhose and your legs have stubble. *shudder* Such an awful feeling.

It is my choice to shave every day or two because, bf or not, I like my legs smooth. He's never commented on any stubblies he might have encountered, though----that man is focused!

Only when I'm wearing a skirt, which is like three times a winter. I usually don't wear skirts unless it's at least +15C outside - which means I have a window of about two months.

The Yukon celebrates this during our annual Sourdough Rendezvous - we have an official Hairy Leg contest. Prizes are awarded for length, density, impact, and best overall.

Barbarians!

I am fair skinned and mostly light haired but I shave every couple of days anywhere that need to be shaved. This includes legs, pits and bikini area, regardless of whether I'm actually planning to wear a bikini or not.

I find it more aerodynamic that way:D

Ditto me with The Mermaid's reply. But I live near Houston and wear dresses year around.

Oh and I'm not really all that fair skinned.

In a real pinch, I've borrowed Mr. Shawa's razor. He doesn't like it, but I had to once when we were on vacation and at the time I couldn't find a store that sold razors.

As to shaving in winter, I do, but not as often, and many times, I'll only shave my legs from my ankles to my knees. I do, however, keep up with shaving the bikini area.

I keep my armpits meticulously shaved. Armpit hair just grosses me out.

ButI don't like the feeling of shaved legs. I always feel like I have a plastic coating over my leg, there is such a loss of sensation.

Well, it's nice to know that it's mostly just me who's a hairy monster. :D

Dude checking in here.

I just don't like the stats on this thread and I wanted to chime in to encourage at least a few brave women to consider NOT shaving their body hair. Yes, silky smooth skin is fabulous but so is the fuzzy or furry covering on legs, armpits, even tummies and chests and chins.

Oh yes, we love you just the way you are.

Another blonde here, and I don't shave in cold weather or warm. In warm weather, I use a dipilatory only as needed, about every 6 weeks or so. No stubblies either.

Brunette here. I also shave my legs only every so often in winte, but MUST keep my armpits shorn. Bleagh.

Random poll, ladies: do you shave your whole leg or just from your knee down? I've always done the knee-down thing, just because I have very light brown hair on my legs and no one notices anyway if I'm wearing a swimsuit or something else that shows my thighs. (I keep their attention occupied elsewhere :D)

*ahem*
From the waist down, ms. tsarina
and yes, I do shave in winter... I have quite coarse hair on my legs, and sensitive skin.. it keeps the skin from getting irritated (sounds like it should be the reverse, but if I let my leg hair grow in my skin gets a lot of ingrown hairs, as well as being drier than usual)

I always shave. I may skip and do it every other day in winter, but I can't go longer than that-I HATE the feel of fuzzy legs. It's so nice to have smooth shaven legs.

I shave, even though I end up bleeding from several cuts to my knees and my legs burn like the fires of hell (damned sensitive skin.) I'm very pale, with black black hair, so hairy legs are not something I can get away with. I'm also a very hairy girl-- my boyfriend has less back hair than I do. I'm so disgusting.

I don't shave at all. Anywhere. My leg hair is very light and so it can be difficult to notice either way and I don't wear anything that reveals my armpits, so I don't have to worry about that either. heh

Wow, a competition that I would actually have a chance of winning! I have fabulous leg hair--thick, curly, and bright orange. It's really something else.

In answer to the OP--I mow my legs with my husband's hair clipper every month or so year round. I don't really like shaving, but I also don't like being so very hairy. Mowing it down every now and then keeps it within an acceptable range. Yes, my stubble shows to some extent, but I don't really care. It is only especially noticable if I let it go for more than a couple of months. Then it looks like I am wearing fuzzy orange pants.

I suspect I must be weird. I'm a male who isn't attracted to large-breasted blondes with long staight hair and perfectly hairless bodies.

I'm sure this is in breach of some UN convention or other, but it's the way I am.

I hereby confess that: I find armpit hair in women attractive; I am also attracted by pubic hair that extends beyond the bikini line; the softness of mature leg hair is far nicer than stubble of any length; and there ain;t nothing wrong with hair on arms or the back.

I hate: tampering with the natural shape of the eyebrows; big (head) hair; and makeup.

I'm waiting for the men in the white coats.

I generally take a razor to my pits every coupla weeks, year round.

I'll shave my legs on occasion in the summer if I'm going to be in shorts in a social situation. But I'm fair and as I've gotten older, I seem to have less and less hair on my legs anyway. And anyway, who looks at the legs of a saggy 48-year-old woman - maybe a saggy 45-year-old man?? If he wants 'em shaved, he can do it himself!

I shave my pits every day - I can't stand even a little stubble there. Legs once a week or so in summer, once every week or two in winter.

Winter was once a time of laziness in my life. I'd shave once every two weeks or so, it's no big deal because while I live in shorts during the summer, I never wear them in winter and skirts well those were few and far between.
Now I have a boyfriend.
Yeah, so I shave every 2-3 days. Or whenever I think I'll see my honey and err.. he'd be in a position to notice.
He's not too particular about it, I tend to shave everything from the waist down when I get un-lazy enough to shave. Even though I adore my sweetie's chest hair. He seems almost sad that I shave everything off... so maybe I'll stop spending that extra time in the morning.

During the summer, I shave regularly. During the winter months, however, it's rare for me to shave at all. I do wear skirts, but I always wear thick tights with them, so it's not a problem.

I once asked my brother what he thought about body hair on women, and his response was, "If I ever find a woman I love enough to marry, I won't give a rat's ass about her body hair. She could be a sasquatch, for all I care."

Brothers are great.

I shave every other day even in the winter time. I love the way my sheets feel on my clean shaven legs.

Plus you never know who's coming over!

I do all the time, unless I am really caught up in work and school. Then I tend to forget to do things, like eat, sleep...

I tend to wear shorts year round, so I have to keep the same shaving pattern going the entire time, which is 2-3 times per week. I love the feel of my legs being shaved (I'd shave even if I were a cloistered nun), but I get razor burn if I do it too often.

I shave every blessed day; sometimes twice. Legs, pits, bikini line - everything. Feels much better to me than hair.

Here's the routine:

Pits and bikini area get the razor every day.

Legs from the knees down get shaved every other day, year round.

Thighs get shaved every other day in the summer. Once I stop wearing shorts in late summer/fall, I'll let the hair grow on my thighs since it is soft. Then, it's like a ceremony in the spring when I am going to wear shorts for the first time. The hair comes off and remains off until fall.
