I just upgraded from a Pentium 233 MMX to a Celeron 433 processor. Now, whenever I play a game, normal sounds are fine, but speech is much softer than before, sometimes to the point where I can't hear it at all. I can't seem to find any control that specifically adresses speech files, so I really don't know what's causing this. I have an older sound card (Sound Blaster 16) and a 16x CD-ROM. Also, I'm currently running DirectX 6.1 (I've heard bad things about DX7). Any ideas on how to cure this?

I had this problem, but not with a processor upgrade. Go to your sound card's website and make sure you have the most current drivers. You might also turn down the non-voice sounds in the game's option panel, but you probably already thought of that.

maybe yourcomputer is deaf? Anyway, did you just take a HD from one computer & put it into the other one? If so youll have to run the new hardware wiz.

I found it! The connecting wires are getting funky. Wiggling them makes the problem go away -- as long as I'm holding my hand back there. I'm gonna have to pick up some new wires tomorrow. I hope the problem isn't the speakers themselves. Thanks for the replies, guys.
