View Full Version : Diet and social class

Have there been any published studies about a relationship between socio-economic social class and diet (in the US)? I'm trying to figure out if being in a lower class is reflected in a poor diet and if being an a higher class is reflected in having a better diet. I'm not asking to debate the issue of "what is class anyway?" but am just wondering if there have been any sociological or anthropological etc. studies done on this topic.
Have already googled and searched here with no luck.
Thanks for any help!

There was a very good PBS special on social class. One segment was on this very topic.
In only a few minutes of searching, I found quite a few articles about a relationship between socio-economic social class and diet but no articles about a relationship between socio-economic social class and diet in the US. I did find quite a few articles about a relationship between race/ethnicity and diet in the US.

Has there ever been a time in history before today when the lower socioeconomic groups have been more overweight than the uppper? I don't think so, and it's pretty odd when you think about it.
