What is this movie?

I saw a movie on July 4, 1991 on AMC. It was on a lot that week and it was ultra cool. It was early 30s vintage, and I can't remember anything about it except that it was some sort of party
at some lawyer's or someone else's place and they all sat around
talking nice until all of these confessions came out about who loved who and in the end someone committed suicide. Then, for the real clinker, they showed the alternative ending and I think all live happily ever after. Does anyone know the name of this movie?

Recognize any stars? Was it a period film or was it actually made in the 30s? Was the party indoors or outdoors? Was it in b/w or color? Do you remember who killed themselves (even narrowing it down to gender)? Do you remember how they killed themselves? Did anyone have accents?

Just back from my hiatus...Now, the movie really was a 30's movie, b/w, the husband of one of the babes shot himself. It was extremely melodramatic..party was inside...there was a fireplace..the room was well lighted with mostly light colored scenery...none of your chiarascuro here, thank you! I can't remember any names, but i seem to recall that there was at least one harlow type....It was a memorable 4 of july, that's how i remember the date so well...any ideas???

nope,not even close. it was definitely an early 30s production. no ghost stories...

The movie sounds vaguely like JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK (1930). The upper crust sits around talking nicely. In the end, a lower class woman (a servant, I think) commits suicide. It's been ages since I saw it.

thanks for the effort, dantheman! When I went to their website I quickly assessed the kind of help that they would give, so i didn't bother with the email scene. Hmmmmm..I guess I'll have to go to an old tv guide or some such..thanks for your help!
