View Full Version : Up Late?

This thread is to the night owls.
I am sitting here at my computer trying to get sleepy enough to go to bed. The kids are sleeping, the boyfriend came over after 27 rounds of golf, crawled into my bed and crashed hours ago (yeee haaa :( ). It's not just the fact that I drank to much Pepsi tonight, but I am enjoying the peace and quiet.
Is anyone else here? Why are you up late?

Emotionally stressful night job. Don't use drugs anymore.
Funny thing is, I really prefer mornings.
Always been more of an AM person. Damn night job.

Can't sleep... so I thought I'd stop by the SD for some thought, and peek into the latest 10Q's at Edgar. If that doesn't make me sleepy, I dunno what I'll do. Late-night TV in Mexico City sucks, you get 8 or so channels of lame infomercials for science-defying beauty products like a soap that supposedly enters your pores and burns the fat out of your skin and a scalp treatment that regenerates hair in men with male pattern baldness. They'll also sell you a series of cassettes and books to improve your memory and a program that uses subliminal messages to improve your lot in life. I wonder if there's any $$$ to be made in translating a debunking of the Clam Plate Orgy. Apparently at this late hour I've misplaced my carriage return.
Ah yes, there you are.
Now if you'll all excuse me I'm gonna go make me some chocolate milk, if anyone cares to join me I'll be in the kitchen.
For a number of reasons, including, but not limited to:
1) Much too much Pepsi.
2) A friend of mine, whose ICQ went down a couple weeks ago, finally got it back and it's the first time we've been able to talk for that long.
3) It's the only time I have a chance to work on my websites.
4) I'm a natural night owl anyway.

Here. . . I sometimes wish we didn't have to sleep. It eats up time I'd rather spend doing something else. What, I have no clue. . . I'm not doing much now anyway.

I'm up for the day. I wake up about 3:00 A.M. and start my day. I got up at 2:00 today because of an asthma attack.

Well, my coworkers had a party for me tonight since I'm moving away soon. They rented the clubhouse of one coworkers apt complex but, unfortunately, they couldn't rent the pool and hot tub so we had to share it with the other people who lived there. I say unfortunately because of the events of the evening. I was inside talking to a friend and this woman comes running in and says, "Where's the phone? I need to call 911." We found the phone and she started calling. Then, this really large drunk guy in a rage comes in and starts screaming at her. She picks up a beer bottle and starts threatening tohit him over the head and calling him racial slurs (she was calling him the "n word" that's a derogatory term for African-Americans but, the thing is, he was a while guy). They go round and round and she, we deduced, never really called the police. He walks outside and I continue talking to my friend. Then some kid comes running in yelling about how some guy was outside slashing tires. My cars out there so I go running outside. Sure enough, it was my car they got. I went back inside and called the police because the drunk guy and the woman were still fighting. Apparently, earlier, he'd worn a REALLY expensive watch to the pool and it had disappeared. He started throwing the furniture around the pool and accusing her kids of taking the watch. That's when she ran in to "call the police."
So I waited around and the police came and did what they do. The drunk guy said he didn't touch my car but offered to pay for new tires. I didn't accuse anybody of anything because I didn't see anyone touch my car. I just know there were knife punctures.
After all that, some friends and I stayed in the hot tub and talked. I got home about half an hour ago but am too keyed up to sleep ;).

I'm up, as usual, at 6 am, drinking beer. There is no better time of the day than this, whether you're up early or up late.
Good morning. :)

Caffeine addiction is a bitch. I'm trying to wean myself off the stuff, but calculating how quickly to taper off is not easy.
Apparently I didn't drink enough of it today, because a couple of hours ago, I started to get the hideous, pounding headache that accompanies withdrawal. The only cure that works is more caffeine, so I belted about 40 oz of Moutain Dew. This didn't complete the cure, but it did take the edge off; at least now I can see straight.
Of course, now that I've had that much caffeine, it'll be yet a few more hours before I can get any sleep. So I'll be tired at work tomorrow, which means I will probably need to consume mass quantities of caffeine in order to stay awake through the staff meeting.
Anyone else see a pattern here?

Well, I have two main reasons I'm up late. One, life is kicking me in the ass recently, so I'm too wound up to sleep. And two, I have a lot of friends on the west coast that I chat with, so I end up talking to them until midnight their time. And then pay for it at work the next day.
Speaking of which, I should probably be getting to bed...

I'm up working on my book again. Needed a break and some humor! I love the night best though, I come alive around 8pm and go sometimes till 6am.... it seems my best writing happens when the world is quiet and I can just shut down all the lights (well, except the computer screen) and just go to town in my own little world. No phone calls, no visitors, just me and my words.

It doesn't take much to keep me out of bed at night. I sort of tend toward nightmares and insomnia anyway. I'm up late because of an arguement. (I should have been above it and and let it roll off like water off a ducks back. But I didn't I took offense at someone's rude behavior and lashed out verbally. Wish I hadn't, I wouldn't feel so bad now.) Oh and I'm waiting on the laundry and I had too much Dr. Pepper. Anyone else out there?
Ever the insomniac,

I work nights. By the time I get home, it's usually past 2 am. So I come online, check my mail, chat with Rashad and Dave (they're usually up too...), and check the boards. I go to bed around 5 or so. I sleep all day, and go back to work at 4. It's a vicious cycle...
Tonights my night off, but I'm used to being up this late. It's my routine.

Yep, it's arsenic hour around here. Mr P just announced he was going out at 6pm (well I knew he was going out but I thought it would be much later. Like after the sprogs are fed later ). Instead of walk out the door just as all hell breaks loose later...........
It's been the day from hell but I think that finally after a month of stuff ups I might just have access to my credit card and my savings account again. Yay! Nothing like banks to make life fun. I got my credit card back after leaving it at the supermarket. It's been a fabulous day I tellya!
Now all I have to do is figure out why the computer ate a bit of my assignment and post it to my tutor.
Abby, it's OK to start new threads dear :).

I'm up. I'm always up. At night, that is.
I think my Circadian rhythm is broken.
Anyone know how I can call tech support? Or, failing that, where I can buy a replacement?

Pammipoo dear, you don't work nights, you work evenings ;)
I work overnight, every night, and have for the past 2 years. I start at midnight, and crawl into bed around 10 am.
Of course, that means I'm skipping work when I'm typing these messages ;)

Just a little suggestion, Abby - no-one will shout at you if you start a new thread ;) It's good to not start endless threads about the same thing, but you *are* allowed to start a shiny new one occasionally.

2 AM here in Palm Springs, still about 100 degrees out. My mind races sometimes (yes, I know about the medications for that one). I have had insomnia for at least 20 years. It is a terrible curse to know that night after night will be just like this. I don't do alcohol, caffeine or drugs. I exercise. Thursday I went to the dentist, so I will blame tonight on that. The last time I slept through the night was about a year ago, after I had my gall bladder surgery.
I used to work night shift when I graduated from nursing school, maybe I am stuck in this black hole forever.
Sorry, wrong bulletin board.....I think this post goes over to the depression board down the hall.
