Why am I seeing the pi symbol graffitoed everywhere? What's the significance "on the street" all of a sudden?

Maybe math is the "in thing" with the rebelious people out there.

I don't know. It's irrational.

If you live on a traffic circle, multiples of pi are much more practical street addresses than rational numbers. ;)

Seriously, where are you seeing this? It doesn't seem to have hit New York, or I'm not looking hard enough.

It's in Seattle. I'm seeing it everywhere. Just the symbol, no other context.

And here's the thing: I work with LGBTQ street kids, in a drop-in center. We try to keep gang-related stuff out of here, so I'm tempted to erase it when I see it, but I don't want to be reactionary without knowing for sure that it's gang related.

hmm...http://acronyfinder.com (Great resource!) seems to give LGBTQ as:

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning

When you start seeing "i" out there, run like hell.

Because it would take to long to graffiti the actual number "3.1416..."

You just don't understand because it's transcendental.

I saw this in NYC circa 1998 as ads for Pi (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0138704), the movie.

But maybe that's just circular reasoning.

This thread is making no progress. You're all running around in circles.
