Ten Things I Hate About You (thanks to cable) is fastly becoming one of my favorite movies. ( It has to be in the top fifteen right now.)
Clueless
Tommy Boy I don't know if this qualifies at Teen or frat boy mentality. So I put it here anyways.

I liked Not Another Teen Movie a whole lot, as well as both American Pie movies.

Hmmm -
Have to agree with Clueless - transcends the genre
and American Pie - funny and feels okay to watch the tittilation because it seems to treat the female leads reasonably well
And will add:
She's All That - My wife really likes this movie, so I have watched it a few too many Friday nights. Funny characters, and little more going on than just standard trash. And whild Freddie Prinze Jr. can't act, his weaknesses are effectively covered up...

I love Ten Things I Hate About You and I don't care who knows it!
Clueless, however, is my dirty little secret.

I like Ten Things I Hate About You and Clueless also, but the BEST Teen Comedy of ALL TIME is Whatever It Takes.
That movie is just so funny and offbeat it kills me! I have the DVD and have listened to the audio commentary more than once.

I have to agree with American Pie and Clueless.
Interesting both Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You are modernised adaptions of classic novels (although via an excess of alcohol last night I forget which ones :-)
I also thought Cruel Intentions (again an adaption of a classic - Les Liason Dangerous) was a lot of fun, and Scream I/II although not sure they are "teen" movies as such

Clueless is a true classic.... but not as classic as Better off Dead, the absolute best teen movie ever made.
I also like Valley Girl quite a bit.

American Pie
Road Trip
I actually didn't mind Dude Where's My Car.
Dazed and Confused
That one with Jennifer Love Hewitt, 'Can't Hardly Wait'
The John Hughes classics (Ferris, Weird Science, etc)
No one has mentioned Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
Technically, Tommy Boy is not a 'teen movie' since it is not about high school or collage students'. Which I guess would mean Dude Where's my Car isn't either.
I really hate Julia Stiles movies. FYI all her movies are loosely based on Shakesperian plays.

I never thought of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Breakfast Club as teen movies, though I suppose they are.
Must be a generational view. I didn't have kids when those came out, much less a teenager.
Breakfast Club is one of my all time favorite movies, ever.

I can't remember, msmith, was Save The Last Dance (another good teen movie) an adaptation of Hamlet, or Macbeth?

Road Trip is hysterical. It made Tom Green palatable, and that in itself is a miracle. And Fred Ward was in it. DJ Qualls is the Anthony Michael Hall of the now.

Neither. It's one of the movies that Julia Stiles is in that doesn't adapt Shakespeare. Her movie after that "O" was based on Othello. And the Hamlet movie was just Hamlet. I wish someone would do something with MacBeth but it could only have her or Kenneth Branagh in it, not both.
Other non-Shakespeare movies she's done include: Wicked; I Love You, I Love You Not; Down to You; The 60's; The Devil's Own; State and Main; and some I've never seen.

Better off Dead
Hackers
Rock n' Roll High School Forever (who knew it was a sequel to a Ramones' movie?)

Much to my husband's and my sister's chagrin, I love teen movies. I don't know why, I just do. I've been trying to rent Ten Things I Hate About You and Clueless for the last week, but they're always out.
And instead of listing every teen movie individually, I can only say that I agree with 90% of the movies listed in this thread. She's All That seems to exemplify everything I like in a teen movie.
Again, I have no idea why. Perhaps my inner child is simply overactive.
Just thought of one not yet listed: The Princess Diaries. I don't know if it counts as a teen movie or not, but also the remake of The Parent Trap.

Thanks. It is interesting to me that if a film maker adapts a classic and modernises it then it has a good chance of success, but if they were to adapt the classic without modernising it then most likely no teens would ever go see it.
I wanna say something like "what's up with the youth of today" but I'm only 32 and it would make me feel old :-(

I'll second "Can't Hardly Wait", Seth Green's clueless white boy role made that movie.
But my all time favorite teen movie is--and will always be--"Heathers". Lick it up, baby. Lick it up.

I like Can't Hardly Wait, except for the stupid stuff with Jenna Elfman.
I just saw She's All That for the first time this weekend, and was pleasantly surprised at some of the smaller jokes. Like the father answering along with Jeopardy, and other stuff like that. Good stuff there.

These are the only ones I can think of right now:
American Pie 1 & 2
Road Trip

Legally Blonde
Real Genius
10 Things I Hate About You
Clueless
The Breakfast Club
Scream
Final Destination
Idle Hand
Urban Legend

Clueless was one of the worst films of the year. :)
And there's a lot on these lists that are college-age films - not what I consider to be 'teen' years. Aren't the teen years mostly in the high school years? Sure, you're usually a freshman as a teen, and maybe a sophomore, but the bulk of your teen years are in high school. Which is why I didn't include Road Trip (but shouldn't have, with this logic, included American Pie 2, which is set in college).

Yes, I think you may have a point. The standard "teen comedy" format usually involves a bunch of high schoolers in their senior year. There is usually some combination of the following: Nice Guy\Preppy Girl, Asshole Jock\Hot Bitch, Angst Guy\Bitter Girl, Keg Man, Party Girl, Geek Boy\Nerd Girl, Stoner Dude\Clueless Girl, Smooth Operator\Superhot Chick, a couple of underclassman and Returning Alumni Man. Pretty much all the highschool stereotypes. There will be some run-ins with bullies, some romantic entanglements, and other assorted random wackiness. The entire movie will either take place at or lead up to the high school prom or some end of school blow-out party. Adults are never seen except for small "what are you wacky kids up to?" roles.
In contrast, the "college movie" (Road Trip, PCU, Animal House etc) has pretty much the same characters except that its usually a group of mostly guys who would just be off having fun if it wasn't for that mean old dean/professor and that rival fraternity. And there is often a road trip.

Pretty In Pink was on when I walked in the door today. I tuned in to see Long Duck Dong drop his head under the bed.
Yeah, yeah. Double-entendres and everything.
Anyway, due to several favorable mentions of Ten Things I Hate About You, I went and rented it tonight. Great movie! Frickin' Hilarious! I only wish it had been around when I was a teen. And, by the way, I think Allison Janney as the counselor had the best role in the entire movie.

How about:
Jawbreaker - Rose McGowan
Don't Tell Mom, the Babysitter's Dead - Christina Applegate
Election - Reese Witherspoon, Chris Klein
Bring It On - Kirsten Dunst
Fear - (does this count?) Mark Wahlberg, Reese Witherspoon
The Outsiders - Matt Dillon
Meatballs - Bill Murray
Little Darlings - Tatum O'Neal, Kristy McNichol
The Flamingo Kid - Matt Dillon
Tex - Matt Dillon
Have I aged myself yet or what!! Most of these are in my VCR library, and most of them have been in said collection for a while.

Well, it depends on which defenition of "Teen Movie" you use. If it's one primarily about teens or one primarily for teens. Of course, many are both.
SkipMagic, you're confusing Pretty in Pink with Sixteen Candles. Not too surprising since they both starred Molly Ringwald.
I'll have to add my vote to Better off Dead and The Sure Thing. Real Genius was lots of fun as well. Don't forget (for those who say it doesn't count) that although Chris (Val Kilmer's character) may not have been a teen, the protagonist, Mitch, most definately was a teen.
Heathers. Although it was about teens, I don't know if I would classify that as a teen movie. It is a wicked dark comedy though.
There's another one that actually isn't bad (which I remember because it was on cable over the weekend) - Just One of the Guys. It's mostly memorable for Buddy, the obnoxious younger brother, and the fact that the actress who played Terry did a good enough job that you occasionally forget that she's not a boy.
Oh, and another vote for Meatballs Classic Bill Murray.

Heh. Um...yep. Thanks, Linus! Pretty in Pink had Jon Cryer as Duckie; between the two, I prefer Sixteen Candles.
Has anyone mentioned My Bodyguard or Hiding Out? And, although it's not necessarily a "teen" movie, My Chauffeur?

How about these Kid n' Play classics:
Class Act - High school hood and brain have to trade places with hilarious results
House Party - Kid N Play, Martin Lawrance, that funny black father from every rap video and movie. What more could you ask for?
For fans of more "serious" teen fare:
School Ties - Brandon Frasier struggles with anti-semitism as a 6'4" 250 lb star football playing steelmill-town Jew getting picked on by little Matt Damon and his geeky prep-school friends.
Kind of "The Outsiders" for a lot of this generation of young actors.
And no one has mentioned the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry?

I'm gonna have to put my vote in here for Can't Buy Me Love. I swear, the whole African Anteater Ritual setup was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. It's been 15 years and it still makes me laugh. :D
Weird, though...for how much I loved that movie, I don't think any of the people in it wound up famous. Am I wrong?

American Pie (Haven't seen the sequel)
Bring It On
Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("Does Elvis talk to you?")
Clueless
Can't Hardly Wait
Fast Times at Ridgemont High ("Dude, that's my skull.")
Footloose
Heathers
Anything starring John Cusack
Anything by John Waters and/or featuring Brat Packers, period.
I'm a sucker for the genre, but only if it's well done. I always get a kick out of watching the Buffy movie and seeing Hilary Swank as the very valled out airhead pseudofriend, and thinking "From Buffy to Oscar. Not bad."

I take the most embarrassing delight in the guy who plays Stiffler on American Pie. He was great in Road Trip and both AP movies. Okay in Dude Where's My Car (yes, I'll go see the sequel, or at least rent it) but I thought he was useless in Jay & Silent Bob.
His name is Seann Michael something, or somesuch, I'm too lazy to look it up and don't care overmuch since I'm not planning to join his official fan club. I just fine him really hilarious. He makes teen movies worthwhile.

I have to say that I wasn't such a big fan of that movie. Pattrick Depsey was such a douchebag that I wanted him to get an ass-beating, not a hot chick. Complete dorks don't get the rich hot girl. It would have been better if he was a brooding artsy loner or a misunderstood guy from the wrong side of the tracks.
I found him much funnier in that movie where he was a pizza -delivering man-whore.

Damn..... where DID the time go? :)
I loved that movie when it came out - even wrote about it in my journal - will have to see if I can find it for rent somewhere....
(bops over to IMDB)
Patrick Dempsey was the lead... he was in Scream 3 as Detective Mark Kinkaid .. skip the (NOT flattering) photo on his main page & check out some of the others - he's still a cutie!
Amanda Peterson was the love interest - she hasn't done much since then.
Oooh! Seth Green was Chuckie Miller (?) -- now I gotta go find it!

I like the American Pie movies, Road Trip, Dead Man on Campus, Dude, Where's My Car, Jawbreaker, 10 Things I Hate about You, She's All That, Can't Hardly Wait, Cruel Intentions (although I like Dangerous Liasons better, and why is there a Cruel Intentions 2 with the same plot???), Ferris Bueller's Day Off, High School Rock n Roll (Forever and Ever), Dazed and Confused, Sugar and Spice and Suburbia.
I have seen every aspect of Dead Man on Campus in reality (although slightly exaggerated) at my University, and as far as Dude, Where's My Car goes....there are some movies that were intended to be stupid, and in their stupidity they are hilarious. Dude, Where's My Car is one of them. Sugar and Spice is a bit in the intentionally stupid movie category, but I think that for what it's worth, it's a pretty good satire.

Can't Buy Me Love
Ferris Beuller's Day Off

Reality Bites (okay, any Winona Ryder movie. hubba, hubba)
Better Off Dead (hey! I'm related to the two dollar kid!)
