Strange that I started thinking about this again today. There's a song by an old band Big Black which is about some town-sized act of child molestation... but I've never heard about this before. Some places I've found in my web search on Jordan have merely named this an "alleged" case of mass molestation...
What's the Straight Dope on this?

Just a quick overview:
Twenty-four citizens of the town of Jordan, near Minneapolis were rounded up and charged as co-conspirators in a Satanic sex ring that held intergenerational orgies, produced child pornography using their own children, and committed human sacrifice. Their children were placed in custody and rigorously prompted to "disclose" abuse.
Charges against all but three of the accused were dropped by the end of the year
oops, forgot what site I took it from :S

Heh, I enjoy that song, but from what I read the Jordan, Minnesota case was just another delusional "Satanic Ritual Abuse" witch hunts of the '80s. Here is a site that exposes the hoax:

It should be noted, though, that the site is rather harsh on Steve Albini for falling for such a slanderous lie. Long story short, a trash collector was found boinking small children, so he started claiming that their parents were involved, etc, until 24 people were eventually accused. He was the only one who ended up in jail.

I had a sneaking suspicion that this didn't happen as portrayed. Good hunting, guys. Thanks.

And, sheesh, the offhand comparisons to Salem, MA aren't really all that offhanded! :(
