Two work-related rants

1. I had to create a new AGP/PCI slot numbering diagram (http://www.matrox.com/video/support/rtx100/rec/slots.cfm) to show both 32- and 64-bit PCI slots. Now, 64-bit PCI slots are longer than 32-bit slots, so the diagram is naturally wider than the old one.

I've been getting requests to resize the diagram to the height and width of the old diagram for two fucking weeks. Height I can do. Width, no. That would fuck up the aspect ratio.

I HAVE FUCKING EXPLAINED THIS TO VARIOUS MEMBERS OF THE FUCKING WEB TEAM ABOUT FIVE TIMES NOW.

Who the FUCK who works at a company that makes video editing hardware and software DOESN'T understand aspect ratio? (For instance, standard TV aspect ratio is 4:3; widescreen movie or HDTV is 16:9.

So I resend the files, but then they ask for the original EPS. Well, there never was an original fucking EPS. I exported from CorelDRAW. So I send the original vector drawing. BUT WHY THE FUCK DO THEY WANT IT IF I'VE ALREADY SENT THE PROPERLY-RESIZED FUCKING DIAGRAMS AT LEAST THREE TIMES? There's no tweaking to be done. I did it. That's part of my job.

FUCK, THEY ARE SO CLUELESS. The diagram that's up is all squished. I'm embarassed.

2. I was checking web pages of validated systems for inconsistencies in product names, broken links, and the like. I found a ton of stuff. SO I GET THE VERSION NUMBER OF A DRIVER WRONG ON SOME OF THE PAGES. BIG DEAL. My manager's all like, you have to check for these things! Honey, if you only knew how many things I found that you didn't... But you can't talk back to a manager like that. So now she thinks I'm an idiot, and I have to spend the next week sucking up to her.

Dear web team and manager,

I am not stupid. I'm probably more intelligent than the bulk of the engineers here. I MAKE MISTAKES, THOUGH. But there are MANY things YOU are absofuckinglutely CLUELESS about.

So don't get on my case. And, web team, read the fucking emails I send you and grab a clue. I know what I'm fucking talking about.

I feel your pain, man. We're in the midst of rolling up some numbers here at work. A key employee is on vacation this week, so a few of his coworkers are trying to cover for him.

Trust me when I say they don't have the foggiest notion of what they're doing.

That's it. Monday morning, I'm sending them the properly-resized, web-ready diagrams and will tell them to use them or fucking else. Well, not in quite so harsh a tone, but I'll explain that the diagrams are the correct height and at the proper aspect ratio, and can be put on the web site to go live.

Then I'll go bitch to my manager about how clueless the web team is. She's well aware of their incompetence. They fuck everything up.

But come on, I first sent them the diagrams two fucking weeks ago with an explanation as to why I couldn't resize to the width of the original. Then I get yet another email asking me to resize it. NO, fuck. So yet again, I explain why I can't. ASPECT RATIO, you CLUELESS FUCKWADS!

If this continues, I'm going to whoever manages the fucked-up web team to inform him or her of the problems we're having. I'm not about to spend time working on graphics only to have the web team fuck them up, then request that I send them the fucking source file, presumably so that they can fuck things up further. There's a reason I do what I do and they do what they do. I fix the graphics, I edit the text. My group has the last word on everything. Don't fuck with us.

And let me just add that the diagram I linked to wasn't mine, but one modified (badly) by a co-worker. The slots are fucked up in the linked diagram, and I improved upon it greatly. Plus the 64-bit and 32-bit slots aren't left-aligned.

There's FUCKING REASON why they give me the graphics: because I FUCKING GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST FUCKING TIME. Who the fuck decided to give the graphics work to someone else? I'm the graphics guy.

Monday morning: scott evil on the warpath. This may seem extreme, but understand that much time is painstakingly spent getting things right only for other departments to fuck up our work. It happens all the fucking time, and we have to go back and correct their retarded mistakes. What is so difficult about copy-and-paste? How do typos get introduced in that process? Why can you not just accept my perfect diagrams and put them on the web site? How fucking dense are you?

I'm ranting this much because it's slow at work right now, so when I get something to do, I do it right, only to find that idiots fuck it up.

I've found nailing them to the celling in the hall, then ritual disembowelment, creating a sort of art deco curtain effect works nicely.
