And God has killed another kitten. (Didn't fit in the subject line.)
I called in an order to KFC last night. Don't ask me why, especially given that for the past two days I've been eating killer nachos with chili and sour cream, and I went out for lunch Friday for poutine and hot dogs with the other writers at work.
I was tired. I fell asleep. Coma is more like it, since I had taken my meds earlier. I woke up around 4 AM to find a message on my call answer from KFC asking me to confirm. So poor KFC delivery guy must have been buzzing my apartment, and perhaps got into the building and knocked on the door.
I'm sure this happens frequently, but I can't help but believe I've been blacklisted or something. I'm not calling there for delivery for a long, long time. Probably a good thing, because KFC food can have a nasty effect on my GI tract.
That is all.

Speaking as an ex-pizza delivery girl - if you want to make it up to them, go to the store in person, explain you fell asleep, order another meal, and leave a tip at the store for the driver who came and missed linking up with you.
It happened to me, twice, when I tried to deliver to someone and they didn't answer because they were asleep/drunk/whatever. It made my whole week that someone cared enough to come up and apologize, and make things right.

Shit happens. I think calling with an explanation and apology should suffice.

Calling them wouldn't do much. I don't feel bad for KFC. They're owned by Pepsi or something, so I'm sure they can absorb the $10 I would have spent. I just feel bad for the delivery guy (it could have been a girl, but it's always been a guy). I had the money with a nice tip laid out for him on my desk.
Anyway, like I said, I'm sure it happens frequently. I just won't order from KFC for a while. (But damn, those Twisters are good!)
I'm just by the whole KFC delivery thing...since when do they deliver?

You've obviously never dealt with bitchy Québecois delivery call center people. They wouldn't give a shit. They'd just ask me what I wanted delivered, and possibly charge me for the missing meal. I don't want to go there. I have to avoid KFC. No problem - there are many other places I can call for delivery. And, I might add, better food than KFC.

If you don't want to pay for the meal that you didn't eat, that's fine. But I would suggest at least leave a tip for the poor fellow who made the trip. He's not owned by Pepsi (at least not outright) and would appreciate the gesture as well as the money. Even if he's an ass that bitches you out, it's still the class thing to do; it shows consideration for the person who is often treated like an underling.
Of course, he could be a she and she could be very grateful for your integrity and generosity. Whoop, I seemed to have confused this with one of those porno threads...

No? They must do it only in Canada. Like when McDonald's had pizza here but not in the U.S. (and no, it wasn't McPizza, it was "Pi}}a"...er, pretend that the squiggles are "golden arches" on their sides.)

Now scott, I don't know what KFC's deal with paying their drivers is, but when I delivered, I got $4 an hour (US) and that was below minimum wage. I made the rest on tips and 5% commision on my orders. If I brought something back, it was money out of my pocket, since I didn't get commision if the food wasn't delivered, I paid for the gas, and I could have been spending my time delivering to someone that paid me. Plus, don't think they'll forget. Drivers pass this stuff on to each other. You might not get the same guy next time, but they know who treats the drivers well. You treat him well, you might get freebies next time, you treat him badly, your order will be late, cold and wrong, cause he'll go to the customer that treats him well first.

Dude, KFC is nasty, nasty stuff. Just back away from the greasy, under cooked chicken... (damn I wish there was a barfing smilie...)
I went to a U2 concert with a couple of friends about 3 years ago. We got back to the hotel and ordered pizza at about 10:30 PM. I phoned the place back about 3 times. Finally I'd given up and gone to bed. Then, at 4 o'clock in the morning there's a knock on the door. I open it and there's the poor delivery guy with my pizza. I felt kind of bad, but I sent him away anyhow. I really wasn't in the mood for pizza at 4 in the morning, after having been asleep for about 3.5 hours. :p

In southren ca they deliver also ....... Now out here they do add a dollar delivery charge since the gas prices went up a year or so ago
The lady that delivered for me Said they get about 60 cents of every dollar for gas
Now My bad kfc experience was when I was on meds and gave the driver 2 twenties for a 21 something order
I being spaced out on pain killer forgot to ge the change ... I called the kfc and they called him on his cell phone he said "oh I'm sorry I thought that was a tip "
Now I do give 2 or 3 bucks for a tip but 18 dollars ? sheesh

Really? I knew that KFC shortened its name to get rid of the nasty word "Fried", but around here, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut still have the names "Taco Bell" and "Pizza Hut" on the restaurant signs, menu boards, commercials, takeout bags, pizza boxes, etc., etc., etc. Where did you get the information that they'd shortened their names?

What Kat means is CITE!!!!
I've had both ends of the coin, getting unjustly shafted and getting surprised by tipping customers. I once waited on a table of two women. I met one of them as she was coming back from the cash register, where she had paid her bill. I said "Thank you, have a good afternoon." She looked like a deer in headlights. She had obviously not planned on tipping me at all, but I happened to run into her. As I watch her FOLD A TWENTY DOLLAR BILL into her wallet, she handed me a handful of change, which if memory serves added up to a whopping $.63, and said "You deserve more than this, but this is all I have." I stared in disbelief at her and mumbled something. I honestly thought she was kidding. Nope. When I told my manager he said, good naturedly: "Did she kiss you?"
"Uh...no." I said, confused.
"Too bad. It's nice to get kissed when you're getting $%#$ed." Man had a point.
On the other hand, I also had a couple of men who appeared to be in their early thirties (best tippers) who left me $10 on a $30 check. And it was a credit card tip, so he had to write it in and then write the total (tip plus check). No messing up there.
So it all evens out. Sorta. If you want to feel a bit morally superior to everyone (and who doesn't?) I say go down there and tell them what happened. The worst they can do is insult you in that Quebecious way, which (and I assume you are an English speaker from Canada) I'm sure you're used to.

After a brief search I came up with this:
http://www.yum.com/news/100797.htm
Technically, from what I can gather from Yum! Brands, Inc.'s site (the new name of Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc., the spin-off company that now owns KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and now Long John Silver's and A&W) is that they technically are still owned by Pepsi (or at least the Pepsi share holders) in some manner, but anything business related goes over my head so I'd be curious to know if someone can explain this to me.
On a similar note, it appears that Pepsi does control a large part of the snack industry:
Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Lay's potato chips, Gatorade, Tropicana Pure Premium, Doritos, Quaker, Ruffles, 7UP (outside the U.S.), Cheetos, Mirinda and Lipton Teas.

The pizza wasn't too bad but if you had to make a left onto Lorain during lunchtime traffic it was nowhere near worth it. Besides that Taco Bell just down the road at Lorain and Coe had an all retiree day staff who actually payed attention to how they but your food together.

You know, when I was driving to Toronto last weekend, I stopped at a rest-stop on the highway that had a Kentucky Fried Chicken, the whole name spelled out. Now, I don't know if maybe it's a Canadian thing, or maybe they were just too lazy to change the sign. I, in fact, refuse to call it "KFC." I'd make my way to the fine eating establishment, or in this case KFC, and ask who the delivery person was on the night I placed my order. If he were there, I'd apologize in person and tip him what I would have tipped him had I answered the door. If he weren't, I'd ask when he's scheduled to work again and stop by then.
For such a well-mannered person as yourself, scott, I'm surprised you don't care about the human element of this, mainly the delivery dude. The apology letter bit is hyperbole and you know it. But then again, there is that [i]evil[/i[ after your name...

He gave me an autographed photo (still have it) and asked me "Do you like chicken?"
So you should whip out the ouja board to apologize to the Colonel and ask him to forgive you for sending his minion on a wild goose chase. Otherwise, you may be target for chicken hauntings. (Poultrygeists are very scary.)

I'd like to see a cite on this too. Making such a radical change to a very successful branding campaign is a HUGE big deal, usually accompanied by a significant press release. I've seen nothing about it in the marketing/branding trade mags. There's no mention of shortening anything on their official site either (under their press releases page).
Perhaps there is some confusion caused by a specific ad campaign (ie/ There's the slogan "Do the Dew!", but Mountain Dew has most definitely not shortened its name to "Dew.")

Woah-- say what? If this is a joke then woosh, but otherwise I call shenanigans!
KFC was changed to reflect the reality-- EVERYONE was calling it KFC, and since they broadened the menu a bit it was the logical thing to do. Think FedEx from Federal Express.
Taco Bell it still Taco Bell- "the Bell" is just a dumb nickname that they seem to use now and then in ads. Nasty food though.
Pizza Hut is still Pizza Hut. Its ok Pizza, but nothing special. Much like Papa Johns, I will eat it if its free, but would not pay for it-- much better to be had IMHO.

::backs off slowly with her hands in the air:: Hey calm down I was trying to suggest reasons why she might not have done as you expected. I did say that she might have been evil.
I think that the system in the States sucks big time when the waitress/waiter REQUIRES a 15% tip. It was one of the hardest things to adjust to when I visited the States recently. Here in the UK I tip a MINIMUM of 10% unless the service truely stank (and it has happened that I have needed to get up and remind the waitress that we were waiting for our order to be taken, no it was not busy, she was gassing  ) then go up as the service gets better or if we were a large group. At least then the tip can reflect the service and not have to pay the wages.

Well, this wasn't supposed to be a thread about tipping, I suspect, but as far as I'm concerned, tipping is optional. If it were mandatory, it would be included in the bill (20% gratuity, for example) all the time.
