View Full Version : Equal Opportunity tone lowering. . . or LOTR made me HOT!

Firstly, I'd like to take a little time to berate myself for not seeing this movie in a theater--

Biggirl, you money-grubbing, wait-for-the-DVD, cheap so and so. God, you are pathetic. Never ever let your children pick what movie to go to. You idiot!

Secondly, Hotcha! Men in tights-- whoda thunk?

Now I've heard certain members of this board go on (and on) about Elijah Woods. Not for me. Maybe if I was twelve those glistening, soulful eyes, that strangly small head sitting atop that even more strangly thick neck and those rosy-pink cheeks would have moved me carnally. Since I'm not twelve, give me doofy, dumb Samwise any day. There's a good boy Sammy-- now get me a beer.

I think I'm the only person on this side of middle-earth who would choose Borimir over Aragon. Not that I'd kick Aragon outta my bed- let's not get ridiculous here- but Sean Bean just hits the right spot for me in spite of his silly name. Plus, there's something about a redeemed man that makes him so much more interesting than a Hero.

However, for good old fashioned, panty-dropping, honey-get-the-firehouse-'cause-I'm-burning-up lust, nobody beats Legolas. Oh yeah. You, with your pointy ears and elvish hotness, shoot me with your arrows of love!

Thirdly, I don't care whether he's playing walking, talking software or an Elvish King, I'd rather wake up next to a gekko than that grinning skull head of Hugo Weaving. He scares me.

You aren't alone, I'd pick Borimir over Aragon too- I thought he was a much more interesting character(and more attractive!) I agree with you about Legolas too- will he have more lines in the other movies?- and was bitterly disappointed to see what he looks like outside the LOTR movies. Oh well, there are two more movies to enjoy that lovely blond hair in. I don't suppose anyone would find it suprising that I liked the elf best, lol. :D

My best friend, though, isn't 12 (she's 23) and drools over Frodo. She has weird taste in guys.

Actual telephone conversation I just had with my husband:

Him: Go out for dinner and rent a movie tonight?
Me: No, I wanna see LOTR again. I'm in love with Legolas.
Him: Is he not cool? He was hitting people with those arrows-- like bullets, man. They were dead before they even knew what hit them!
Me:No, I want to have his children.
Him: He was great in the books, I don't know why your so surprised.
Me: So, we'll watch it again.
Him: Man, that ogre was shocked, he was so dead.
Me: Yes, I see you love him too.
Him: I'll pick us up some beer.

I swear, that was the actual conversation. I don't think my husband was really listening to me because he was so hot for Legolas-- in a totally het kinda brutish way.

Amen to that Sistah! Legolas is such a hottie. There something about that long blonde hair and pointy ears that just makes me scream . ;) I too like Orlando Bloom much more dressed as an elf than not. If I ever got with him, I'd demand he gets all decked out in his Legolas outfit. However, as far as the human scene goes. I'm all about Aragorn. I dunno....yeah he looks incredibly dirty in the movie, but he's a ranger, and I have a thing for fantasy character Rangers. Maybe there's a psychological connection here...I always play an elven ranger in my rpg games...hmmm....

You're right, Biggirl, you should have seen it in on the big screen. All that eye candy action was even more overwhelming.

Although I find the guys in LOTR you listed every bit as hot as you do, I'm a sucker for a Shakespearean actor with a meltingly warm voice and a tremendous presence. So, even though he plays for the other team, I could listen to Ian McKellan's voice all day. All the while looking at Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean, of course!

N.B.: Legolas at Helm's Deep is going to get major camera time, I'm predicting. We'll be seeing lots more of him.

Especially when that man is Aragorn ... *drool*

Another vote for Sean Bean over Aragorn here, although there was so much to choose from everywhere you looked...

I confess to a 30-year lech for Christopher Lee, and a more recent one (5 years or so ) for Ian McKellan. Mmm, voices.

Iv'e got to second the Uruk-Hai, or at least the main one. He had a truly great ass.

Pictures of Eomer in "The Two Towers" look potentially intriguing. Gosh, I haven't looked forward to Christmas this much since I was 10.

Legolas is a touch too pretty for my taste, but Aragorn and Boromir can look me up any time. And Merry and Pippin would be a blast to hang out with. Hell, any movie that can make hobbits remotely sexy is definitely worthy. And, yeah, arisu, nothing does it for me like swordplay. Buckle that swash, boys!

Orlando Bloom looks nothing like Legolas. He looks like. . .like. . . Pacey from Dawson's Creek! It's more than the hair, it looks like he rearranged his bone structure or something.

Sorry about Hugo Homie, but that guy seriously freaks me out. Every time he speaks on screen I expect a long, green forked tongue to come slithering out of his mouth.

Oh! Long, forked tongue! It's giving me ideas!

And as for the Urukai-- just imagining the nasty hot breath coming out of that rotten mouth is enough to make me give up sex for, I dunno, at least a few hours.

Another thought just hit me. How 'bout Aragon and Borimor--- at the same time!

One last thing. Where are all the Frodo lovers?

cher3

Okay, I'll admit to being something of a Frodo lover. I don't even really mind the neck thing much. In fact I'll take the whole set of hobbits. They're all pretty cute.

(One odd thing is that Elijah Wood doesn't really look all that much like Frodo, really.)

Aragorn does it for me, too, though--just so you don't think I'm too weird. Especially that evil little smile just before he goes postal on someone, or an army of someones.

I've had a mad crush on Sean Bean since he was Richard Sharpe, so mark me down in the Boromir category.

It's Elijah Wood's eyes. And his hands (but don't get me started on hands...) That's what does it (except I prefer Samwise...what's that actor?... because I prefer a man I can't break in half.)

And, I'm sorry, but Orlando Bloom/Legolas just doesn't trip my heart. He's so...so...Hollywood Pretty. Now, his skill with that bow OTOH...drooooooooool

I watched FOTR again last night with two utter Boromir fans. One of them pretended to panic with lust every time he came on screen. I admit, he is cute. So is Legolas. The way he fights... (swoon)

Although, I will say that the movie did disappoint me in that there wasn't a single woman among the fellowship. Lots of guys to look at is good, but I'm used to fantasy with at least one chick along for the whole adventure, so it seemed a little odd to me. Oh well, I liked it so much more than the books, which I refuse to try to read again, so I suppose I should be happy with that, and not expect prefection.

Poor Gimli, will no one speak up for Gimli? Ok, me neither, but I do love John Rhys-Davies' voice. I have ever since he played Sallah in Raiders Of The Lost Ark. JRD will be voicing 2 characters in The Two Towers, Gimli and Treebeard.

Aragorn for me, thanks - even when I only knew him from the books. He's got that "weathered to perfection" look about him, and I love that he's so soft spoken.
I'm an Aragorn lady myself too, though I understand the Legolas and Boromir lusting.

I can't wait for The Two Towers. I already have a healthy lust thing for Eomer, even though all I've seen of him is what's shown in the previews. Boromir's brother Faramir should get some hearts beating fast too, once we see him without that helmet.

Oh, December can't come fast enough!

Ah, yes-the beauty of Legolas.
Eat your hearts out, girls-
Mr. Singular has long straight thick blond hair (ribcage length), blue eyes and delicate features and a compound bow! He's more muscular than Legolas, tho (which is a plus). When we left the theater, people were actually ponting at him and whispering little elfin gossip.

Legolas, Boromir, Frodo, all hotties...even Merry and Pippin were cute!

Arangorn?...Don't care much about him, mainly because it is a character I dislike in the book. No matter how good looking he is, I dislike his character so much I don't see the beauty.

Faramir should be as good looking as Boromir, at least, seeing that they were brothers...

I'd be the filling in an Aragorn/Samwise sandwich. Those two were smoking! Sean Bean is a handosme man, but his Boromir getup didn't do it for me. Ditto Orlando Bloom. The wifty, girly, elf look is not a turnon. I'd do Merry and Pippn in a heartbeat, though. Mmmm, hobbits.

Friends of mine who never usually go for feminine guys were woozy over Legolas. You know that the actor got so adept with the bow and arrow, that they had to ask him to slow down the reloading for the movie, or the eye wouldn't be able to follow it on screen? Elijah Wood has the most fascinating features. Including the boxer's neck. I'm not so sure about Aragorn, personally. Sure, I'm gay and perhaps not the best judge, but he's just so hairy and dirty! I kept wishing he'd fall in the river just to get a bit cleaner!

I'm watching the movie again right this moment, and though there are only two female characters, they are both highly fantasy-worthy (in all senses of the word). They couldn't ever have picked a better actress for Galadriel than Cate Blanchett; not many people can carry off 'noble resignation' and still give the impression that they are holding down an incredible well of power inside themselves. And she's not so bad to look at, either. Arwen gets better on every viewing, especially in the scene where she's outriding the ring-wraiths (even though that wasn't in the book).

I haven't read the Two Towers yet. What are the female roles in that one like? Do we get to see more of Galadriel?

KarlGrenze
08-10-2002, 05:58 PM
Not much of Galadriel. Eowyn is the main female character that appears in that book. Strong willed, a warrior...pretty, too.

Hodge
08-10-2002, 08:08 PM
Mmmmm....Eowyn. She's played by Miranda Otto (http://www.theonering.net/movie/cast/otto.html) in the upcoming movie. Nice to have some more female eye-candy, although I doubt she can compare to Cate Blanchett's ethereal beauty.

This movies warrants at least one change of panties, possible more.

I agree, Orlando Bloom himself is good-looking, in a wholesome, teen-idol sort of way, but as Legolas? Hot damn, that is one sexy elf. His hotness burns with the fire of a million suns. :D
And Aragorn is nothing to sneeze at himself. The first movie I ever saw Viggo Mortensen in was 'The Prophecy', and his evilness somehow only added to his hotness. I go for menacing. I don't know what it is about me gettin' all het up fer menfolk with weaponry. I generally abhorr violence, but there's something primally attractive about well-built males f***ing s**t up.

I don't understand all the fuss over poor sad old Frodo and his unfortunate head-shape, although I will say he has stunningly beautiful eyes.

I cannot, however, marry either of them (as I've explained to Geoff) because I can't imagine them having pillowfights.

Boromir, Aragorn - TAKE A BATH AND WASH YOUR HAIR!!!! Please.

Currently reading Pilgrim by Sara Douglas and aside from constantly expecting FOTR characters to pop up in it (think I watched the DVD once to often), I find it amusing that her characters occasionally long for a hot bath or a shave.

Well, you know, there actually is a bath scene in Tolkien's book, with the four hobbits.

But this thread has confused me even further about what women want in a man. A long time ago, it was looks. Then it became money. Then humor. Then power.

Apparently I got stuck in the "power" mode. So I went out and became the most powerful being in the Second Age. So now what happens? Women switch back to looks. Scruffy looks, apparently.

OHO! Sexy LOTR! Ahem yes I will second and third any votes for Elijah Wood. It is a little freaky but he is undeniably gorgeous and sexy in a low-key, sex-slave rather than rampant-animal kind of way. What can I say? Is it his delicate pale skin, his tortured fingers, his soulful eyes, his beautiful mouth? Erm, yes that could be it…

Oh and I adore Boromir, too. I cheer each time we get the first sight of him riding into Rivendell. (And I’ve watched the DVD… how many times?) But I love ‘em tortured. And his affection for Merry and Pippen is very cute.

Final vote goes to Elrond. Although when he speaks he’s as funny as all out. The way he says Mordor as Morrrrrdurrrrrrr is hilarious. But I’d definitely do him.

I just saw some new photos and realized I had the characters of Faramir and Eomer (rather, the actors who played them) switched. I was actually lusting after Faramir.

In trying to keep this straight in my feeble little head...

Eomer (Karl Urban), the badass-looking long-haired blond guy with the kickass helmet, is Eowyn's (Miranda Otto) brother, and nephew of King Theoden of Rohan (Bernard Hill). He's heir to the throne of Rohan. Rohan is close, WAY too close, to Isengard (where Saruman's lair, Isengard, is).

Faramir (David Wenham) is the sensitive-looking shorter-haired brunett, and is the late, great, Boramir's brother. Their father, Denethor, is the Steward of Gondor (the guy who takes care of the place in lieu of a king, who will be Aragorn). Gondor is close, WAY too close, to Mordor, where Sauron hangs out.

(Sound of Tolkien fans cringing in disgust)

I have read the books, but I don't plan to read TTT again until after I've seen the movie, since I want the movie to be fresh and surprising. I don't want to be sitting there worrying or even thinking about the changes made. However, I do want to make sure I know who all the characters are and where they're from. I think it will enhance that first viewing.

Anyway, Faramir...such a babe!

Amen to that, Equipoise! You were probably looking at the same set of new pix that I was. Okay, ladies, check out our guys here, and add to the list Faramir and Eomer. Look for and click on the small word "next" to view all the pictures. WARNING, maybe some spoilers here, as well as a godawful clutter of popups:

Arwen, drool. Galadrial, DROOL. So far so good. Legolas, drool.
Huh? Legolas, drool? Ok, he looks like a girl, and elves don't count anyhow, dyke cred still intact.

Aragorn, drool. *MEEP* Wtf? Hee hee....
I haven't really managed to rationalise that to myself in any way, but what the hell, if you gonna drool over a man, then what better man than SwordStud... I mean Aragorn doh

pugluvr, yep, those are the pics I was looking at! They're nice, but they might be the last I look at. I'm conflicted. As the time gets closer to December 18, I want to see more more more more MORE, but on the other hand, I want to have surprises and not have so many images burned into my brain. What to do, what to do.

Ooops, I meant to change the second Isengard, the lair, to "Orthanc," which is the name of the tower Saruman lives in.

Something about a man carrying a Ring of Doom just does it for me.

How about Elrond for you elf-lovers out there? Personally, I think he has scary eyebrows but the rest of him is niiiiiiiiiice.

I was always the Aragorn woman. He was funny and sexy in the books, and John Hurts' voice in RB's production, just turned me on! But Viggo? He plays him as a dour faced young hardass.
Sean Bean actually made me like Boramir.
But Yaaaaa... Dominiqe Maugham has 'em all beat! gives me a whole new reason to watch those Hetty Wainthrop Investigates reruns on PBS.
The character of Legolas was so undeveloped that he just screams for a bit of rounding out so to speak....Ah, ha, all you LoTR DVD blind lovers (from this (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=129514) thread. You see? *Rational* people do think Aragorn read his lines with constipation mode full on!

And Boromir... wow ... they should have been so lucky for all their casting. The movie would have been been one of the 10 all time greats.

Legolas??? Girls... what? I'm blond, blue-eyed and tall, and I think he looks like a rag mop. No lines, barely to stand upright, always seems to be looking for a cue card.... the gene pool is in danger...

Lines? LINES?

Who the hell needs Legolas to talk anyway?

Not, me, baby, and he doesn't need a script for the only sounds I want him to make. ;)

Arangorn?...Don't care much about him, mainly because it is a character I dislike in the book. No matter how good looking he is, I dislike his character so much I don't see the beauty.

Faramir should be as good looking as Boromir, at least, seeing that they were brothers...

So, what is it that makes you dislike Aragorn in the books?

Mmmm all those boys were hot in one way or another.

Only issue I had was why if the wizard, dwarf, elf and hobbits can all seem to keep up a reasonable standard of hygene the humans couldn't?

Boromir, Aragorn - TAKE A BATH AND WASH YOUR HAIR!!!! Please.

Currently reading Pilgrim by Sara Douglas and aside from constantly expecting FOTR characters to pop up in it (think I watched the DVD once to often), I find it amusing that her characters occasionally long for a hot bath or a shave.

In the book The Fellowship of the Ring, the hobbits are occasionally delighted to get the chance for a good, hot bath. There's a scene near the beginning of the book where they have hot baths, with a lot of spashing, and the singing of a bath song Bilbo had written years before.

heeheeheeheehee

Here are the complete diaries (http://diaries.diagon.org/)

Hilarious! Some excerpts:

Aragorn

Day Six:
Orcs killed: none. Disappointing. Stubble update: I look rugged and manly. Yes!
Keep wanting to drop-kick Gimli. Holding myself back.
Still not King.

Day Eleven:
Orcs killed: 7. V. good. Stubble update: Looking mangy.

Legolas may be hotter than me.
I wonder if he would like me if I was King?

Borimir

Day One:
Went to Council of Elrond. Aragorn acting all superior as usual. He thinks he's so great because he's shagging that bit of elf crumpet on the side. I mean just because someone has a broad chest, firm, defined muscles, an outdoorsy tan and loads of manly stubble doesn't mean that....what? Got distracted there for a bit.

Seem to have agreed to go on some sort of mission while distracted by Aragorn's enormous...rudeness.

Ooops.

Day Three:
Stupid Ring, stupid Quest, stupid Fellowship.

Day Four:
Frodo dropped Ring today. Picked it up, but Aragorn made me give it back. Arrogant bastard. Wonder how he'd feel with Horn of Gondor shoved right up his...

Stupid Ring.

Legolas

Day One:
Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Four:
Boromir so irritating. Why must he wear big shield like dinner plate all the time? Climbed up Caradhras but wimpy humans who cannot walk on snow insisted we climb back down.

Am definitely prettiest member of the Fellowship. Go me!

Day Six:
Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Elrond it is for me! I thought Hugo was sexy as all get out. mmmm mmmm!
I thought Cate was the best choice for Galadriel, but neither she nor Arwen did a thing for me.
