What would be the ultimate liberal country?Holland or Denmark. The joke goes that Denmark is so liberal that they give the local Hells Angels funding from the state, from the cultural fund. Sweden is so so, only pretending to be politically correct, then denying minorities good jobs.

You mean you have a bumper sticker on your car and you don't even know what it means? OH MY!

"Virginia is for Lovers" is simply the theme for Virginia. Just like Missouri is the "Show Me State". Naturally in Virginia you see these signs many places.

All Smiles,

Along with "Virginia is for Lovers", Betsey is adorned with "Support Organic Farmers", "Feel Good", and "Ya Gotta Have Art! Support Art Education in Schools"

the virginia one was a gift from a friend and at the time i was simply concerned with decorating my first car with anything i could find.

thanks for the clarification. my other hypothesis would have been a virginia slim reference.

Re commonwealths--yes, PA is a commonwealth (as are KY, MA, and VA I believe). Legally speaking, however, a commonwealth is identical to a state. (In terms of the United States, that is--in international terms "state" has the same meaning as "country." Thus the United States is itself a state.) (You guys wanted to know that, right?)

Colorado. A native in fact! Not many of us left. Here's a good joke on this subject.

A Californian, a Texan, and a Coloradoan, attending a convention in a little town just outside Las Vegas, were standing in a seedy bar enjoying a few drinks.

The Californian grabbed his wine spritzer, knocked it back in one gulp, then he threw the glass against the back wall, smashing it to pieces. He told the other startled drinkers that the standard of living was so high in California that they never drank out of the same glass twice.

Next the Texan finished drinking his Margarita, and threw HIS glass against the back wall. He loudly proclaimed that in Texas not only were they all rich from oil, but they had so much sand that glass was cheap and he too never drank out of the same glass twice.

Next the Coloradoan drank his beer, drew a revolver, and shot the Californian and the Texan. As he was returning the gun to his holster, he told the wide-eyed bartender that in Colorado they had so many Texans and
Californians that they never had to drink with the same ones twice.

Hey, I grew up (ages 4-14) in Indiana, if that makes you feel any better. I even detasseled corn in the summer.

I lived in Carmel--but don't hold that against me! ;)
