A couple of thoughts:
1.) If they were to stop running the current crop of anti-drug ads and replace it with Leonard Nimoy saying, "Doing drugs makes things like this seem like a good idea." followed by this video, the drug problem in the US would evaporate overnight.
2.) A couple of those chicks were hot, but I don't think that I'd have been able to do 'em, knowing where they've been.

OMG. Three out of five members of the Goose family are currently ROFL.
Bonzo says, "Hey, that's a camp song!" I said, "What?"
He said, "Somebody got up at church camp last year and sang that." Poor Nimoy--his alternate career as a rocker, reduced to "somebody sang that at camp last year".
I see that it was a hit single in 1968. OMG.

Thank you, Dave, for a most worthy addition to the "Mom's WEIRD Stuff" Favorites folder.
Note to other people with slow computers: It's a Quicktime movie, which took FOREVER to load completely on my computer, one dribble at a time--but it was WORTH IT.
Oh yes. And sing along.
I said, everybody SING!!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
I have a version of the video, but it's only about ten seconds long and at the end there's a big record that says 'FRODO LIVES'.
You are truly my hero and this is only marginally better than my William Shatner mp3 of Mr. Tambourine Man!
Tuckerfan
08-11-2002, 08:25 PM
Say jin have you heard Shatner's rendition of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" or Nimoy's "Proud Mary"? "Bilbo" here doesn't do Nimoy's singing voice justice at all! ;)

I think Mr. Nimoy must have received some bad career advice in his early years. He did a LOT of "music" in the 60's. Who can ever forget "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" from Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space - why do I know this song you may ask? Well, because I have an aunt who actually OWNED THE ALBUM - and played it endlessly!
Have a look at this fan link (http://www.missioncreep.com/tilt/nimoy.html) and this official fan site link (http://www.nimoy.com/disc.html) for more about his musical wanderings. The scary thing about that second link there is that you can clearly see that he didn't stop singing on records (before going over to spoken word) for YEARS!

I shouldn't have kept watching after the first ten seconds...
isn't there a rule about linking to disturbing web sites? :)

Yeah, I also have Lucy, and Nimoy singing "If I had a Hammer," and him and Mr. Shatner singing "Put a little love in your heart." I have some other stuff by them too but I'm too lazy to look in the directory to see exactly what it is.
The church of Shatner, or something like that (do a Google search) has a video of him doing "Rocketman." It is truly classic.
I also have some songs by Brent Spiner (Data from TNG), who actually is a very good singer.

Ok, I feel obligated to come to Nimoy's defense here. He's really not a bad singer. He has a good voice, just a very dated song selection.

Oh, he sings very well, IMO, that is what makes it so funny! He sings such silly things in such a talented and serious manner. :)
I still love him though.
I want to lick William Shatner on the cheek before he dies. It's one of my dreams. I bet he tastes like salted peanuts.

jinwicked, I removed the link to your page with MP3's.
Since the albums the songs are taken from appear to still be commercially available, I am for the sake of simplicity assuming the materials on them are copyrighted. I could be right, I could be wrong - we err on the side of caution when it comes to copyright.

Repeat 100x.
I don't know whether to scream, laugh, scrub my eyeballs with Clorox, slap myself in the head repeatedly, or faint. I'm mildly surprised it didn't give me a seizure.
My only regret is that it's almost midnight and I can't show this to Mr. Rilch, him being asleep. I could e-mail it to Friend, but I won't. I want to see his reaction first hand.
Oh my god. I didn't think it could get any more bizarre until they started tossing stuff up in the air. Whose IDEA was this? His name and the song title were on the screen at the beginning---was it filmed for Hullabaloo or one of those shows?
Oh my god. No, forget that. There IS no god.

I think we might be getting our acronyms confusitated. While LSD almost certainly played a part in this film's production, I doubt the LDS had anything to do with it. .....or did they!?

P@c ,
Kirk said LDS instead of LSD in the movie. It was to make him look confused and out-of-place. Worked well - the female lead gave him a strange look. It was an intentional error for comedy's sake.

Isn't there a line in Fellowship of the Ring to the effect that Gandalf is "too fond of the halfings' leaf"?
I think that pretty much sums up the situation that resulted in that song being recorded by that artist. :D

I have QuickTime and still can't see the darn thing. :(
Speaking of Dr. Demento..... I have a cassette tape with about 45 minutes' worth of Trek songs and skits on it. Not the Bilbo tune, but these:
"The Trouble with Klingons" by Dennis Williams
a comedy routine by Jim Samuels
Shatner's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"
Jeff Nelson doing Jimmy Stewart doing Kirk
"Highly Illogical" by Leonard Nimoy
"Star Trip" by the Congress of Wonders
"Spock Rap" by the Neuroparalyzers
"Star Dreck" by Bobby Pickett and Peter Farrar
"Star Trekking" by the Fur ? Furm ? or something.
I treasure this old tape. :)

I'm entranced by the whole thing. Being the 60's-o-phile that I am, it seems so perfect. 60's clothes, 60's babes (rowr), 60's tunes, 60's dancing, based on the Hobbit (while published in 1937, really became a 60's phenomenon), with Leonard Nimoy (spock-hair!).
The word kitsch comes to mind.
Probably the same reason I like Sugar Sugar by The Archies.
