Last night I was playing a game on U.S East with my L 18 Pally. I've already done the entire game on normal with a party, but we had skipped the Mt. Arerat summet quest with the 3 Barbs. I figured I'd give it a try, and after much work ( it is the hardest quest save Baal ), beat all 3 of them only to be told "You cannot complete this quest in this game". Huh? I was sure I had the quest.
So, I started another game and made sure I got the quest from the head barbarian in town. I went back to the mountain, checked-yep, got the quest, went to work. At one point I had to TP back to town, the quest even told me when I got back that I had to defeat all 3 without leaving the summet. I FINALLY did-no easy task that, it took some time- and got the same message "You cannaot complete this quest in this game"
WTF???
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Yup. You're too big for your britches. You have to be level 20 to complete Quest Five in Act V on normal. Level 40 for NM, and level 60 for hell.

My God, 18th level? Usually, I'm around l45 when I get around to completing Normal...of course, I'm addicted to playing at players 8, and that helps, but still...

Thanks! And....
That's just not fair! I killed Diablo solo at L16, if I can do it, I should get the credit!
Slotar-
It wasn't easy, mind you, but it can be done. I did truck about 30 red pots up the mountain with me, plus the ones in my belt, but I got all 3 of them.....TWICE!

By 'killed Diablo solo at L16,' I assume you DON'T mean you worked your way all the way through all four acts, all the quests, all the maps, and was only L16 when you killed Diablo, right? I usually get up to about L25 on single player, about L45 if I set it to eight player and go for that good resistance training...

No, as I said, I had already finished normal as part of a party, but I am now working my way back through the stuff I missed or doing stuff again solo. I went back and cleared the Chaos Sanctuary and killed D with just my Ice Iron Wolf Merc for company.

Well, done!
We'll get to you level 20 and take them on again. ;)

What they said. You gotta be a lvl 20 for normal, 40 for nightmare and 60 for Hell (if you even go for it. Most people I know just sit in cows and try not to die. It's a more surefire way to get the experience because the ancients in Hell are lvl 90 characters).
Dave, just out of curiousity (and it is completely irrelevent to your question), do you play Open or Closed Bnet?
Oh, and for leveling I'd suggest doing either arcane runs or (if your char is up to it, and he seems to be) blood runs. I was averaging one lvl a run in the bloody foothills with my barbarian from levels 26 to about 33, when it stopped being worth it (cows and ball runs produced more loot and such).

Be prepared for the new patch (1.10). It supposedly is going to stick random bosses in act 5 to make blood runs harder and they're trying to do something about multiple cow runs.
The patch (at last word) is supposed to be coming out late this month or early next month (of course this is the latest, who knows when it will actually be out.

Hey, all that means is there will be more folks to get drops from:)
And that new patch will be out in late August at the VERY earliest. Blizzard people who used to futz around with D2XP are now working on Warcraft 3.
The *only* way I can see them making act 5 BRs substantially more difficult is either to give them immunities or give, like, Shenk conviction or holy shock and pump it up to lvl 15 or so and make it spread as far out as thorns. Then you'd really have to have something doing a lot of cold damage (and if they were immune to cold it would be REALLY tough). I have a druid tank (lvl 91, uses IK maul) who's died against Conviction-auraed bosses in nightmare.

Oh good grief. The server must have had sex with my post and made four post babies.
FWIW, there's (I thought...) Closed USEast and Open USEast. There's, ah, considerably more hacking done on Open than Closed (but with these new occulus rings...). Also you can play a closed bnet char on any machine, whereas an Open char is on your hard drive. If you played on closed, I have several chars who can help you out or play with you (I'm working on a lvl 17 sorc right now, who has 3/4 of the arcanna set and has The Salamander, the Skull Collector, a Memory staff, several +skill amulets, 2 SOJ and Que-Hegan's waiting for her).
tisiphone
08-14-2002, 04:33 PM
Where the hell are you guys finding the SOJ's? I haven't come up with even one yet, and my amazon's at lvl 74, the sorceress is lvl 43, and the assassin's lvl 31...
Unless it's because I bought the line from Blizzard that the 1.09 patch made them unavailable gambling anymore...and they really are...
Munch
08-14-2002, 04:44 PM
tisiphone, there was a huge bout of duping on the realms a few months back, plus the amount of SOJs that were imported from D2C, that put an obscene amount of them in the market. Since they are the defacto currency, you can get SOJs by hitting the trading forums and an inventory full of chipped gems.

08-14-2002, 05:08 PM
Thanks, Munch.I've watched the trade forums for a while, and still have no sense of what stuff's worth. Gamewise, anyways...I am not one of those idiots who pay real money for virtual items. I've also been a little leery of getting landed with a duped item and having Blizzard whap me for it.
So I'm paranoid...after watching my son get hacked to a faretheewell, I think some of my paranoia is justified. But I'll give it a shot now, for sure!

I got mine by trading a 7%smfc (the largest magic find available on a small charm) for two of them. They may well be duped, I dunno. But the thing is that it's just a game:) It's not like I'll get a limb chopped off if I'm found to have a dupe or two (I don't dupe, FWIW).
However, for all their "Don't you DARE DUPE OR MESS WITH THE GAME!" shouts, Blizzard seems to be almost doing nothing about cheating. In almost every game I've played, including all but two poweracts, someone had maphack and in a good portion someone had auto-grab. People actually advertise hacks and cheats in the chat rooms.

And FWIW, I have yet to find a unique while gambling in 1.09. +2 to skill trees? Hell yeah. Even a couple +3s, including a coronet with +3 summoning (necro). And life leech and mf rings so much that I have 2 ring mules (though to be fair they also carry some charms and amulets).
Anyone need a 6% lifeleech ring or a +1 sorc skills amulet?;)
Seriously. Two mules full, or virtually, and a third with some pretty solid gear. And if you need runes ... whoboy.
iampunha- You can't gamble for uniques in 1.09.
As for the best way to get SOJ's, go do some cow runs, and eventually you will find either:
sc= Small charm
lc = Large Charm
7% smfc- 2soj
6% smfc - 1soj (with additional mods, 2 soj)
100 psc - 2 soj
175 plc - 2 soj
20 life/20 mana sc -1 soj
[Shameless brag mode]
My char list:
34 Sorceress (Hardcore)
65 Necro
79 Amazon
81 Druid
And my baby: 98 (almost 99) Sorceress. I LOVE my sorc. I've got her geared up with:
Occy
Lidless Wall
2 SOJ
Silkweave boots
Magefist gaunts
Tal Rasha's Amulet
A couple of +1 skill charms
Various Life/Mana/Res charms
She is AWESOME for getting even with people killers!
[/shameless brag mode]
I'm on USeast, my account name is shockthem, feel free to add me to your flist. We should all get together and save the world sometime.

Oh, my buddy the druid has:
Jalal's mane (traded my first 7%smfc for it)
IK maul (traded infernostride and an Honor Maul)
arguably the worst part of the entire thing, actually ... armor d 1540. Yes, Dave, that 1199 you saw is NOT the best I have. 1540. 196% ED.
Venomgrips
dual 8% (life, duh:))leech rings
Tal's belt (MF, damage to mana, etc)
+2 druid skills, +11 str amulet (hell cows).
+1 SS (shapeshifting) charm.
Other chars include a lvl 81 zon with a fuxxored build (put points in pierce and use guided ... STUPID STUPID STUPID), a lvl 81 pally rune mule (my first high paladin build ... maxed a few things that do NOT go together), a lvl 82 barb (who, when I can find a normal socket quest for him, will be using the unique exec. sword and a sword with 97 min dmg), a lvl 54 necro (hell cows char ... he gets in, loaded up with stuff, and goes to ID and keep/sell. He's also a money mule), and then assorted chars in the 30s and 20s.
My account names (accounts I play with decent regularity, or accounts I mule with):
iampunha (paladin, druid, baby druid who has gear waiting for him but he's only a lvl 13, and two barbs. I love barbs)
punha_mules (this is my mule account)
lance_mules (a communal magicfinding account that's not quite two months old, with the zon and barb. And buckets of good gear. Dave got some stuff from this account tonight, if I remember correctly)
happybdaydwalin (long story ... it's my brother's account but I use it sometimes)
Then there's basseplayah (my friend Lance, hence lance_mules), who has some decent chars but funky ideas for builds (he liked to make sorcs with 50 str at lvl 10 and max thorns), and lord_phoenyx (my friend Rob, who's registered on this board as Wandering Agnostic), who is not quite as good at melee chars as I am but makes up for it by being pretty decent with sorcs. His biggest mistake ever? making a werebear. Ouch.
I'm currently working on the sorc, since she's but a lvl 17 and has so much gear waiting for her that I've decided to make multiple sorcs. We have two +1 sorc skills shields and it does not look as though this one, with the rune collector, salamander, memory staff, etc, is gonna use any of 'em. Plus que-hegan's...
One note, while I'm here. If anyone needs a +mana or +energy ring or a lifeleech ring or a mf ring (though not my 36% or my 25%!), or a +skills amulet or some tanking armor (d 600+), just ask:) My AIM SN is erlidh and I'm usually quite willing (unless you need seventeen 8% leech rings!) to let people use stuff.
And if anyone needs hsarus' boots or milabrega's shield ... hehehe. I think I have enough of those to feed small african nations.
I just checked my mule account to see what goodies I had........oops, all chars gone.
I've been doing so much HC lately, I forgot to play those chars so they wouldn't be deleted. :(
I had a boatload of psn charms too....Don't even want to think about what else I had.
*Tries to forget*
I'm wishing this was the pit right now.......

The reason so many people use maphack and grabit and get away with it is because those proggies work on the client side only. There's no way for Blizz to find out about them without using spyware, which they won't do(they were going to at one point, but they got bitch slapped by the German government so they dropped it). Those advertisements for hacks/dupes you see in the chat rooms are B.S. Those people don't actually have those things, they're looking to scam suckers. "Sure, I can dupe your Windforce for you, no problem. Just drop it on the ground here and then run to the other side of town. No really, it'll work." Or the good old fashioned sub-7 trojan.

Yes you can gamble for uniques in 1.09, but the odds are so far against you there's no point in trying. You have a 1 in 100,000 chance of getting a unique, and a 1 in 10,000 chance of getting a set item. Your better off doing Meph/Baal runs and/or trading than trying to gamble for one.
I just looked through the patch readme, and I don't see where they changed anything concerning gambling....Though I could have sworn I read the "no uniques" thing at arreat summit, or diabloii.net. Maybe they meant the odds were so high, you would never get a unique.
I stand corrected until proven otherwise.

Unique Items can be Gambled, but the chances are very, very slim. Some Uniques can be very rare. Hang on to them!

"huk huk" I don't know.
"GOGOGO" is typically used when the cow portal is open.

You really have to stop saying things like this where I can see it! Do you realize the damage you're doing to an impressionable youth (well, sorta) who's trying to do everything for himself?
BTW, what's an SMFC? (I know I'm going to kick myself afterwards; I needed to google 'soj' to remember stones of Jordan.)

My guess about "huk huk" is it's someone imitating a barb doing the Find Potion cry.
Oh, KKBattousai (you could probably make your name a little more difficult to spell...;)), I didn't find all my gear myself. Not by a long shot. I have yet to have a char get to Hell Cows without help frm a much higher char (my druid was a lvl 57 in Hell Cows. Boy was *that* interesting...). The point of playing online is that there are people who'll, like, open up a "free stuff" room and drop some semi-cool stuff (snakecord, rixot's keen, axe of fechmar, etc) on the ground for noobs. Or they'll join a game with some low lvls and help them beat some nasties. I can't *count* the number of people I've powered to nightmare or helped power to hell cows (or helped beat the ancients) etc. There's a reason I play online:) True, some people are item whores, but on the whole it's a fun experience:)

IIRC, 'huk huk' was used by the Korean players. It's been a while, but there was a time when idiots trashed the Koreans for playing on the USEast servers, and made fun of them for saying that.

Along with "huk huk" I see alot of "KEKEK" and "TT" from Korean players--beats me what they're supposed to mean.
If you're a new player and want to scrape up some capital, go around collecting chipped gems to trade--40 of those will net you a Stone of Jordan ring on USWEST (people use them to cube cruel swords). Crap jewels, Ort, Nef, and Sol runes are also sought after for crafting items.
My favorite character right now is a pvp trap assassin--81 levels of raw, ass-kicking power.
iampunha
08-16-2002, 07:49 PM
Oh, and Thuls as well. Though I'd rather have the Sol for Lore or Honor than use it for a crafted item that has as good a chance to be absolute crap as it does to be good.
Mefs and Orts, though, are a dime a dozen. I think I have ten on my rune mule if anyone wants to drown in some:)
40 SOJs also net you a SOJ in USEast, though my suspicion is that the SOJs are from someone who spent $32 to buy an inventory full of them and is trading his/her way to good gear. I saw (but didn't get to in time) an occy for trade for just 2 (yeah. only 2. I almost fell down) SOJs.
I wonder what I could get for crap jewels ... I get those "+5 max stamina" and other such worthless mods as I get things like "+2 dex, -15 req, 6% magicfind" (which I actually put in a sword yesterday. Hello, 100+ min dmg and MF).
Only two more lvls and my sorc will have something like 8 points worth of firewall and she's only put one point in (magefist, +2 fire skills ammy, Spirit Shroud, 1 SOJ, and a +2 fire skills long staff. And I have to mule in tarnhelm next time I play...).
Kwyj, what build do you suggest for killing stuff really quick? Doesn't matter if it's mana-intensive. I'm looking to make this sorc a MFer, and time is money:) At around lvl 35 I'll start doing meph runs, and lvl 40 or so I'll do ancients so I can equip the Skull Collector, then start doing baal runs. I'm hoping mainly to pick up another goldwrap or two...Tal's is nice, but it's not Goldie:)

For pure killing speed nothing works faster then a maxed nova+thunder mastery sorc, though you'll need a large mana pool and alot of +skills to pull it off effectively.
If you're going to farm Mephisto for items good compliment skills are maxed firewall+mastery--6,000 dmg/sec makes short work of him. To make it even easier lure him to the edge and teleport across the bloody canal, then run south until he's just on your screen. You'll be able to firewall him to your heart's content while he stupidly stands around, not retaliating.

'TT' (or 'tt') is crying. It's a smiley, not a word. It's a smiley in the manner of other Korean-style smileys: think ^^ and such. 'Keke' is equivalent to 'hehe.' 'Huk' seems to be an untranslatable exclamation. It's not specific to Diablo.

I've got energy at 100, and around 25 warmth (with items..You should shoot for 20 warmth or higher) so I never run out.
