I've been looking at some of the locations dopers are from and I've seen quite a few from Northern Virginia. So I just wanted a general showing to see how many Virginia dopers there are.
I'm from N. Va myself (of course)
And so it begins....:D

Speaking.
What you really want is a count-off of all the MADs (Mid-Atlantic Dopers). We have from DC, Baltimore, Delaware, Richmond, and all over. There's quite a few.

One-half the Richmond contingent checking in. Hamadryad is the other half (IIRC).

Not a MAD any more, but I still check in from time to time. Up until very recently, I lived in Fair Lakes. I'm in Havana...er, I mean Miami, now.
I'm not a northern Virginian, and I don't even consider myself a Virginian (I'm an Ohioan with upstate NY transplant status), but I live in Newport News for the time being.

I'm not from here but Arlington has been my home for 14 years, except for a few months when I was sharing an apartment near Landmark.

I'm a former NoVa resident (Reston), now a confirmed westerner. Although I go back for a visit most years, usually around the holidays.
My brother Lectricity lives in Vienna, VA. But he doesn't post very often. He didn't get hooked like I did.

I live in Alexandria City, and I work in Crystal City. I was born in Norfolk, VA and I grew up in Springfield, VA. Except for 5 years in Northern California in the late '80's, I've lived in Northern Virginia my whole life. Do I win anything?

Excepting winters away at college and similar brief interludes, I lived in northern Virginia (specifically, in the Mt. Vernon/Fort Hunt area of Fairfax County, just south of Alexandria) from June, 1960 through December, 1982. I've also lived for five years in Bristol, VA (far southwest VA, on the TN border), three years in Newport News, two years in Charlottesville, where I got a Master's at a certain university there, and six months in Bleaksb...er, Blacksburg. ;)
I've lived in southern Maryland for the past four years, and will probably live here for the next two or three decades, but I still consider myself a Virginia expat. :)

I've lived in Vienna since I was 6 - and in Pimmit Hills for three years before that.
Trying to save up to move to Chicago, but that's rather difficult with no income. :)

Do I count as a MAD?
This, of course, has nothing to do with No. VA, but since some SE VA folks chimed in, I thought that I'd ask this question anyway!

Hell yes!
I, being the man who coined the term, officially declare Pantellerite a MAD, if only because that's a damn cool username.
And North Carolina gets the job done. I salute you!

Arlington checking in. Specifically, Pentagon City since '99.
I'll be leaving in March for Sri Lanka, and I don't know when I'll be rotated back, but it'll be at least four years from now.

Thanks, JC: then MAD I am and proud of it.
This corner of NC seems more like a rural appendage of the Hampton Roads area, anyway!

State Department. Nominally Consular Affairs, but they're sending me to do a political officer job. Should be fun, what with the twenty-year civil war and 35000 landmines.
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

MADs checking in, but I've only been to Virginia twice. Both for very short periods of time. Weirddave and I reside in Havre de Grace, MD.

We lived in King George, VA for 3 years (20 miles east of Fredericksburg) - I miss that area so much! I'll be a MAD in about 2 years (actually 22 months) - living a bit south of RTF in beautiful California, MD.
Counting the days till I can leave the hell that is northeast Florida...

Yeah, Richmonder checking in. There are a couple of other Richmond-area Dopers, but I've only met one of 'em and he's going to school in another state now. I think for the most part we don't like to admit we're from Richmond...not as cool as the NoVaDopers, and not as laid-back as the Hampton Roads (Hampton, Norfolk, Newport News) people. :D

A lifetime? Wow, I remember when Centreville was an intersection with a gas station, and a really sleazy pool hall that excluded women and beatnics.

nope, Oakton for my freshman and sophomore years and Cedar Lane Center for the rest.
(But I'm all better now.
I think. :D )
I'm from SW Virginia. Christiansburg, about 30 or 40 minutes from Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, however, I'm currently trapped in Arkansas. I hate it here....
