As I walked back into the room, the scroll bar at the bottom of the TV (CNN) appeared to say that Art Bell is retiring.
Has anyone else seen or can confirm this?
If it is true, that would call for a nationwide SDMB party.

Guess I get to answer my own question an hour later.
I just saw it again on the CNN ticker. It says that he has announced his retirement.
Do any of the mods want to put a sticky post announcing the blessed event at the top of the forums?

Well crap. I always looked forward to hearing Art Bell discuss such important topics like shadow people and chem trails whenever I couldn't sleep at night. Now we get stuck with those two "Art Bell Groupies" who are boring.
Anyway, here is a link to a online news story to confirm it:

Again? This is ... what, the third or fourth time he officially announced his retirement?
Bet he'll be back before fall of 2003.

I checked the Art Bell message boards (probably a mistake). It appears he is having some pretty serious health problems (not that I wish that on anybody, even him). Maybe it will be permanent this time.

No, he's more outgoing. ;)

It's announced on Art's website, actually.
A personal coment: I've been on the show twice, with George Noory hosting it both times. The first time I was on, we talked about the Moon Hoax for quite some time. The second time, he said at one point that he didn't think the landings were faked.
I received a note from someone saying that I had made paranormal history: getting someone like that to admit something *wasn't* a conspiracy was a huge accomplishment. :-)
I did want to go on with Art himself, but I guess I won't get my chance now.

Hmmm, I wonder what Art is trying to avoid now? Last time he 'retired' he was trying to evade the fallout from his Hale-Bopp and Y2K busts.
