Fellow Dopers. Now is the time to show yourselves to be the creative and imaginative folks that I know you to be.

I need to help my SO come up with a costume. What I am looking for are some ideas for something that is inexpensive, not a lot of hassle and quick. Naturally, it should also not seem like any of those things and should be both a desert topping and a floor wax! :p

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

well there still seems to be time to go to a shop and buy a costume.

If you want something made of household items have your SO go as you.

Other than that I think we might need a little more info.
Like:
Isyour SO a man or a woman or some sort of animal?

Is there anything your SO would never dress up as like a man or a woman or an animal?

Do you have basic costuem items in your house? (wigs, pom-pons, swords, patent leather hip boots, you know, the usual stuff)

Are you good with a glue gun?

To what sort of event will the SO be wearing the costume?

Right, details. Significant other is Female, mid thirties and the cutest think that you can ever imagine (although I admit to a bias). I guess that I could go buy a costume, but am pretty broke right now.

While I am excellent with a glue gun and in general a virile masculine and handy fellow, the fact is that we recently moved here from 3000 miles away towing a 6-foot Uhaul trailer behind our Hyundai and so still do not have much beyond the bare essentials.

Here's the idea I came up with in chat last night (though the persons I gave the idea to actually made it better):

Hot-glue some mini liquor bottles to a revealing T-shirt and go as a "titty bar".

I have all the trimmings for this one but haven't done it yet:

White cotton balls
white face paint
white gloves, turtleneck, pants, socks, shoes
shower cap and bobby pins
glue the cotton to the cap

Will take constant explanation, but I like the idea.

Wear sweats, messy tee or sweat shirt, wear hair up and full makeup (maybe with tiara?).

And only one shoe.

She's a modern Cinderella.

I'm gong super-lame but super-cheap (and authentic) this year: my pajamas and bathrobe. Then I went and got some of that Force Ten, Patti-LaBelle hair gel and I'm going to make my hair stick stright out in crazy directions as if I just got out of bed.

It's not much of a costume, I know, but it'll be totally comfortable. Plus I am really looking forward to getting drunk in my pajamas in public. :D

I found some great ideas at this site. Check out their cheap and easy section. Rick and I were going to go in black and blue sweats as a bruise, but I have come down with something, so we will have to save it for next year. Rick might go to work in sweats with an e on his chest--e-mail. Your SO could dress as a guy and use the same idea.

Good luck!

Need:
-cardboard
-red and yellow paint
-a few pieces of foam rubber (4 or 5 inches, by a foot or so long)

A few minutes later, you have a bag of McDonald's french fries! (add ketchup-pack earrings for effect)

Get a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, a white t-shirt, black pants, some face paint, and go as a panda. Don't forget the ears!

Does it have to be original? Surgeon's quite easy. Pick up the scrubs, cap and booties from a medical-supply store, swing by the costume shop for a bottle of red goop to smear all over the front (or just use tomato paste), and you're all set.

Tights, turtleneck, 33 gal. garbage bag, newspapers to stuff same. She will be...GARBAGE.

You could do this as a team, labeling the bags Hefty and Wimpy.

Oh, damn, why do I remember this? Bad, bad flashbacks.
