View Full Version : "Fleash" Gordon (Flash Gordon Parody)

I remember seeing an absolutely hilarious parody of the old 1930-era SF classic "Flash Gordon". I don't know when it was made..but I think it was 1975-76 or so.
Anybody ever seen this flick? Is it available on DVD? I rember that the planet Mongo was ruled by a sex-crazed old pervert (Emperor Wang)..and the movie was very funny.

If it was the same parody I saw, it was "Flesh Gordon." I think it was made about 1972 or so. It was not quite a soft core porn flick (although I think there was one of those, as well.) The scene I particularly remember was Flesh and the crew having to battle the giant monster, whose face strongly resembled Richard Nixon.
I don't know if it's available on tape or DVD.

When in doubt, check IMDb (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0068595).
I've seen several versions of this, with varying degrees of nudity. Amazon.com has it on VHS and DVD, the latter with "fifteen minutes of restored footage" and theatrical trailers.
There was also a 1989 sequel, Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders, which I've never seen.

I saw it as a campus movie in Madison many moons ago. I remember Dr. Flexy Jerk-Off gazing at a large, snake-like, one-eyed monster that was about to devour them and telling Flesh: "It looks like some species of penisaurus!" There was also a great, Harryhausen-esque final giant monster that gives Flesh and company the big flip-off as they escape. Other details will probably come back to haunt me in my sleep! Thanks for awakening the slumbering memories.....Timmy

We saw it in July-- it was a midnight movie at one of the old theaters here. I thought it was great in a cheesy-porn kind of way.

It's certainly available on DVD -- as a special edition. Probably worth getting. It was rated X when it came out, then cut to n R. It would probably still be rated X in its uncut form, bt t's still reltively tame by today's standards. I've seen the sequel -- it was in production for a long time, but it didn't really live up to expectations. The original film was better than anyone expected it to be -- a lot of professional folks contribted to it who ordinarily wouldn't be caught dead involved with porno -- Special effects wizard Jim Danforth (whose name is spelled backwards in the credits), Star Trek uber-groupie and Citizens for Space Council member Bjo Trimble, FX guy David Allen,...
If I'm not mistaken, the guy who played Emperor ang returned or the sequel -- but he's the only one that did.

Oh, god...that monster had the best lines in the movie! All delivered in a cultured, faux-Ronald Colman voice.
I remember one of the heroes stabs him in the butt with a spear during the big battle; he gets this priceless expression of surprise and wonder on his face and just says "My......ass."

The "penisaurus" line was what immediately came to me as well.
Both X and R versions were commonly shown on campus at U of I in late 70s.
Remember the salute to Wang? The bicep gripping "F-you" gesture accompanied by "Yes, your assholiness!"
Oh to be young and stupid again.

Here's a pretty interesting review of Flesh Gordon (http://www.stomptokyo.com/badmoviereport/flesh_gordon.html), complete with pictures. Don't worry, it's safe for work, nothing naughty.

I saw Flesh Gordon not long after it first came out and enjoyed it. Although thinking back, I should say it was not the perfect movie for a first date.
I was mildly flawed, it was not quite rauchy enough to be true porn, and it was not quite funny enough for a good spoof. There was a touch of homage to it but it also kind of rudely made fun of the original. The acting was too good for porn and too bad for a true feature. As I said, it was flawed.
But it was better than Freddy Got Fingered, but then again, everything is.

That should read "It was mildly flawed." While it is probably true that I was also mildly flawed at that time, it does not make as much sense within the paragraph as "It". Sorry.
