OK, I admit it, I had a great big old tear in my eye at the end, anyone else?

That ending was really a downer, wasn't it?

I didn't see it. Was it sadder than the episode where Fry finds out his brother named his son after him and gave him his lucky clover? Because, man, that one is sad.

I thought it was.

I admit that I cried at the end of the episode. It's amazing to me the reaction that I can get from cartoons. Snoopy, Come Home has the same effect on me.

I held my puppy close after I watched it. Then I tried to get him to sing Walking on Sunshine.

Damnit, I havent gotten this sappy over matt groening since that episode about maggie and homer's job at the plant where he has "Do It For Her" on his wall.

Dog stuff makes me sad, because I really love my little dog. I'm not sure if I shed a tear, but I know I came close.

Spoilers aplenty

Heck, I wept at the unexpected news that they were airing a new episode.

Leela and Amy wrestling produced other strong emotions. Leela's moment of "I'm goin' in !" shall live forever in my memory.

But, I could've done without the last song. So, Fry decided not to clone the dog. Then, they show us the canine patiently waiting for Fry to come back, just like he promised he would. Why? Why? It was like having Bambi's mom shot during the ending credits.

I was mainly pissed off that I missed half of it because the football game went into overtime.

Not quite as sad as the end of My Dog Skip but pretty darn sad. I'm gonna give my parent's aging dog some extra TLC when I get home for Thanksgiving...

First new Futurama I've seen in a loooong time.

I think it's right and proper to have been choked up (slightly) at the end.

Some funny stuff there, for sure.

"Smart. Lava. Hot!"

Heh heh.

hmm, My Dog Skip

"But where Skip was really burried was in my heart. Which is why I started mutating into some kind of manimal and then died of cardiac failure."

There was football on in Nashville, so they pre-empted it.

As usual.

Yes, Bosda, but luckily I had a friend on business in WA so she gave me a play-by-play over instant messenger...and I still got choked up!

I was a very sad ending but perhaps now that MG knows that show is in its final season he didn't want to "jump the shark" :smack: and add a new character.

Anyone have any scoop on how he plans to end the series? Sending Fry home would be a nice was to close it out. He gets to spend time with his dog again too.

Side note: There is a thread in The Pit about using the JTS term so I added the Smilie.

1. I don't think they're getting to do a "final episode" for Futurama -- weren't all these eps. in the can already when the hammer came down?

2. Its been established that Fry is much happier in the future than in his original time period -- I don't think there's any reason to send him home.

Although well-crafted, I didn't think this episode had much emotional punch; for me, it just seemed like a retread of the episode where Fry learned about his brother's devotion, and also it wasn't as good as that one.

The episodes currently airing are the 16 left overs from last season, which they never showed. While the show has not been canceled officially, unofficially it might have well as been. Because this season is just repeats from last year, the Futurama staff has had to split up and move on to different projects.

Fox's official stance is that it is waiting to decide whether or not to renew the show, but Futurama's future is very, very grim.

Yep. After the exposure the team got working on this show (which is very highly regarded despite Fox's attempts to destroy iy), they'll be moving on to bigger and better things. If Fox ever does get around to renewing the show, it'll be too late to get the team back together, and it wouldn't be the same show.

Crap. I just watched the episode again, and this time I really did cry.

I'm erasing the tape now.

Will someone please promise me that I'll never be parted from my cats (http://glenn5.home.mindspring.com/images/chiff.jpg), and that they'll never grow old or die?

Sad sad sad... Its supposed to be a comedy dangnabit! They've got to do an episode where he goes and decides to clone it! They've just got too!

It reminded me of an old story that supposedly took place in the 1800s. As the story goes, bobbies (British police constables) were expected to have a dog. One bobbie bought a terrier, it being a small, economical dog to keep. The terrier followed him around every night on his beat. Eventually the bobbie died. The dog stood vigil as the body was prepared, and followed the procession to the graveyard. When his master was buried, the little dog stood vigil over his grave. He subsisted on handouts until he too eventually died of old age, never leaving his master's side.

Maudlin. I didn't like it. I didn't want to see that and it sorta pissed me off. It was cheap and I expect more from them.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I normally love sick, cynical humor but this joke was just so drawn out and sad!

What the heck happened with Futurama? Why did Fox stop running it in the middle of last season? And why did they cancel it? As far as I know it was still getting good ratings (and good reviews). I really saw it as The Simpsons' worthy successor and expected it to run 10+ seasons too!

And believe me, when a major network says they're "not ordering any new episodes" this is the exact same thing as saying "canceled". No non-cable TV network is going to devote a slot in prime time to reruns only.

It has the worst time spot period. I wish they never cancelled the critic too :( At least Fox has kept 24 alive.

Hail Ants: I think they stopped running it in the middle of last season because the ratings were down because they kept showing reruns because they wanted to save money by stopping new episodes mid-season. Or something like that.

Is it just me, or was the plot similar to Spielberg's A.I. ?

I dunno. I think you and Cliffy are the only ones in America who saw A.I. ;)

Johnny L.A., that would be Greyfriars Bobby (http://www.novareinna.com/bridge/bobby.html). Who, as it happens, was buried by his master's side.

:sniff: I wish I'd remembered to tape Futurama, now.

:( That was so sad. It did make me cry, too. I'm not a guy, but this episode should be added to the list of movies that make it okay for a man to cry through.

That last scene/song...God that was so depressing...thinking of that poor little dog just waiting for Fry to come home. And Fry never even got to clone him. :( It was almost too sad.

Oh yeah did anyone notice Nibbler's eyeball sticking out of the garbage can when Fry throws the pizza down? Weird! But cool.

People might have actually watched the show if it was on reliably, week after week! Instead it gets randomly pre-empted by sports. Sometimes they'll even show an episode on the West Coast that they won't show in the other time zones.

And people wonder why I download half the TV shows I watch from the Internet...

And my connection is so slow, I don't even have that option. :(

Damn FOX to hell.
