Mom got this email. And yes, I know if they tell you it isn't spam, then it is spam.
BE ADVISED - A REPORT HAS JUST BEEN FILED ABOUT YOU AT WORD-OF-MOUTH.INFO.
For those who do not already know, Word-of-Mouth.Info is an online meeting place whose purpose is researching people. The concept is very simple. Users submit reports about people they know and then other users can search through and review these reports. When an interesting report is found a user can then contact the report author anonymously through this website to find out what information the report author has. For more information please see our ABOUT US and FAQ pages at:

I got one of those awhile back -- it's a bunch of baloney.
The site is supposedly a word of mouth advertising type site, but it's a load of crock.
It seems to me more like an address harvesting operation.
The site is set up to allow you to input information on someone to see if anyone else has left feedback (i.e. good or bad reviews, etc.) Sounds simple? Well, the way it works is that unless you have every piece of information on someone (first name, last name, address, name of business, phone, e-mail address, etc.) you can't see a listing. Hm. Interesting. So, I put in information on myself. (big mistake!) Nothing came up. After that I started getting a crapload of spam.
At the very least I made a half-hearted stab at revenge by looking up who the site is registered to and entering their own information into the site with a bad review that something along the lines of "false and misleading advertising" and a "direct correlation between entering my address on the site and receiving a crapload of spam". The next week I went back and searched for the guys name to see if my review had been entered -- it hadn't.
Save yourself the trouble.
No, no one has filed a report on you,nor will they. It's just a "made you look" tactic.

Ohh. One of the users on my board was ranting about this very thing this weekend wondering if it was legal. She got an email saying someone had filed a report on her and for 10 bucks (the membership price) she could email them (the report poster) and 'sort things out' but the only way to get the report deleted is for the person that did it to delete it and the only way to find out who is doing the reports is to pay the fee.

SCAM or SPAM ....... the eternal question asked a millisecond before hitting delete
