Feel free to tell me "It's none of your beeswax", but what happened to the board on 21/22 February 2000?

Why this interest in something that happened 29 years ago? :)

Ya know how sometimes in computing you take one step forward and two steps back?

Well, welcome to the Straight Dope upgrade boogie.

It's gonna get better, once we get open for business again. Which should be soon. . . not soon enough for me, but soon.

Okay, what bugs me is that the notice referred to "routine" maintenance. Just what was routine about this? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's back, but don't anyone tell me this was routine.

I don't get it.

Is it just me, or does the board seem to be faster than before?

What we had here was a graphic demonstration of the difference between "sposta be" and "is."

Arnold,

This morning (well morning for me) posts were coming up as 02/23/2029...messed some of us up.

Even after 20 minutes of not replying to an email it still came up with the flood control message....kinda scary.

Well, I'm sort of just seeing if I'm really still here, but I'll try and add a little public service as well. Y'all did notice the advisory to change your passwords, didn't you?

Password changed, per the advisory.

I can't help wondering if there was some sort of problem that went beyond "Upgrade had a bug." In light of the board being down for two whole days, the password change warning and HTML being disabled, that is...

I know that's flimsy evidence, but some of us are beginning to suspect a connection.

You're right Bricker. There's some evil afoot in the land.
