In The Fellowship of the Ring when the gang were forced to go into the Mines of Moria, Gandalf made a comment that it was 4 days journey to the other side. However, after their fights with the cave troll, the orcs and the Balrog...they seemed to find a pretty quick exit. It didn't appear to be 4 days but rather more like 4 hours. Did Peter Jackson skip over a lengthier stay or is it explained elsewhere?

Several days took place between when they entered Moria and when they confronted the orcs, troll, and Balrog. Most of those 4 days were just uneventful trudging through the caverns. The exciting stuff all happened right before they reached the end.

The company entered Moria at sundown, on the thirteenth of January, and left on the fifteenth, arriving at the Nimrodel at nightfall. They were there for part of three days.
Of course, they were on the road from Rivendell from the twenty fifth of December, the previous year (3018, Shire Reckoning.)

The timing conflicts are always present. Like the Ent meeting-- that took five weeks in the novel. I really think it lost some flavor condensing all the action like that, but honestly...
Thanks.

The Entmoot took the better part of three days in the books not 5 weeks. (Feb 30-March 2 - The middle earth calendar having months of 30 days each)

This chronology is pretty cool. Is there a timeline of this book somewhere that gives dates?
