Who performed this song first? I suppose it may have been a black female vocalist, but I'm not sure...??

Didn't Carole King write (as well as perform) it? 1971?

Wasn't it Carole King (http://www.superseventies.com/1971_2singles.html)?

Well this site (http://www.reallyrics.com/lyrics/C016700020002.asp) has a song called It's Too Late by Carol King off of her Tapestry Album. That would be somewhere around the early 70s. Is this the song you mean?

Grr, now I have the words stuck in my head, or at least something like them " it's to late, it too late, but we really did try to make it...something died inside...blah, blah, blah." I do sort of like her music, though :)

Yeah, me too.
I've been singing the damn song all around the office today.
...something has died inside and I can't hide and I just can't fake it.
Or at least those are the lyrics I've been annoying everyone with.

One song on an incredible album without any clinkers.
