There's supposed to be a new episode on tonight, right now. They even aired the promos for it. However, they have the "Homer gets a computer" episode, playing, a repeat. Is it just my FOX station that's screwing up, or are other people seeing the same episode I am?

The Fox affiliate in DC is showing the same "Homer Gets a Computer" episode. What's more annoying is that it's the same one they showed at 6:30. Where's the new ep?

DLurker
01-12-2003, 07:06 PM
Nope. Seeing something about Lisa getting a new diary. I don't know if it is a repeat since I seldom watch this show..

Captain Amazing

And now, 7 minutes in, the picture just blacked out, and it cut into the new episode currently in progress. (Gobear, we're watching the same station)

I'm watching it in Oklahoma, and they showed the full episode here. I guess there may have been a problem with the east coast feed.

no, i got the whole thing just fine (i get the NYC feed). more importantly, did anyone notice the blatant mention of homer's email address of chunkylove53@aol.com? does this have some significance at all?

Otto
01-12-2003, 07:55 PM
I believe that was chunkylover53@aol.com. With an R.

The feed in Madison was fine (unlike for the pilot of Firefly, damn their black hearts). Overall a pretty decent episode, except for the glaring continuity gaffe of Homer's taking a human cannonball to the gut, something which should have killed him instantly. Not a return to the glory days but not shameful either.

We got the new episode here in Philly.

The e-mail address was indeed chunkylover53@aol.com; Homer said it carefully several times. Anyone going to send an e-mail to Homer and tell us what happens?

Oh, and here we had the entire Lisa's diary episode.

I'm on AOL, and sent an e-mail to that address asking if the diary was enough to patch things up with Lisa.

It's a valid e-mail address...the AOL software lets you know right away if you're trying to send an e-mail to a non-existent AOL address.

I'll let you know what response I get, if any.

Oh dear god. This poor guy's e-mail box is full. It has been two hours since the episode aired. Can you imagine the shame of being "the guy whose e-mail address was on 'Simpsons' last night"" Or the frustration of Chunkylover52@aol.com? "Damnit, SO close!!!"

All in all, not a bad episode. Not great either. How many times has Homer been shot in the arm anyway? (And how many times has there not been any blood?)

"Chunkylover53 at AOL. No, chunkylover, it's all one word... 53, at AOL."

".com?"

"Yes. .com."

Not bad episode. But it was no Frank Grimes.

You realize, of course, that you've all given your e-mail addy's to Fox who can now spam the shit out of you? (Of course, this thought didn't occur to me until after I sent one myself, damn it!)

We got the full diary episode here in Austin as well.

I liked it. Admitadely, I don't get to watch the Simpsons all that much, but with so many people bitching about how the show seems to be sucking hard core all the time, I gotta say, I liked it. The concept seems kinda familiar (Homer trying to win the love of Lisa), but it was fun nonetheless.

"Can Lisa come out to play with her hands up?"

It was a good episode, and the use of pomade was great. King of the Hill was a complete episode as well.

Heh, I just got a bounceback! I'm safe from Fox spam! (Of course, this could all be a fiendish plot on the part of Fox to take down AOL, now that I think about it!)

"My favorite book is magazines."

Not a bad episode. I did, however, get through to Homer's email. No response as of yet.

My feed was screwed up, too, and I'm in D.C. Obviously the Fox affiliate here had some problems.

I thought it was a solid episode. Homer was silly, but not too dumb like he was a couple seasons ago. It's nice to see more episodes focusing on the Simpson family, and not just the strange universe of Springfield.

WTTG screwed the pooch on this one. Someone apparently popped in the wrong tape. Luckily I recognized the ep and switched over to WBFF, the Baltimore affiliate, before missing much of the plot. Not half bad this week, no complaints here.

I emailed chunkylover53@aol.com too - and got a bounceback.

FTR:

There was an episode where

Homer repeatedly took a cannonball to the tummy. Season 7, episode 24 (#3F21) "Homerpalooza". If that didn't kill him, no reason why a human cannonball would.

That was a pretty good episode (especially compared to the last few seasons worth). The Tickle Me Krusty doll was hilarious! "I wonder what mommy's medicine tastes like?" had me rolling on the floor. :)

But did it really need to lead to Homer fleeing arrest from Chief Wiggum for, what, the twentieth time?

Twiddle, yeah but:

IIRC, in that episode Homer had to give up being shot with the cannon ball because if he did it again it'd kill him.

Perhaps he's had enough time to recuperate...

Ah, but Twiddle, at the end of that episode Homer was told that if he got hit by a cannon ball one more time he would die.
All said, I feel like things are looking better for the Simpsons.

Yes, but human cannonballs (http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a4_069.html) have less power, so they might hurt less. Just a thought.

The glasses and thinking eyebrows with the pomade was hilarious. Aside from that, a good episode, I thought.

I thought the parody in PADZ was pretty dead-on, down to the camera angles and stuttering close-up in sync with the music. I also enjoyed the "Neon Signs" neon sign.

I had an incredibly weird experience watching this episode. We bought a new TV and for some reason, the Second Audio Program was one, which had a voiceover describing all the action (presumably for the seeing-impaired) in addition to the traditional dialogue. It was strange and more than a bit annoying; I even tried closing my eyes to see if the voiceover helped to "bridge" narrative gaps or provide additional information, but there was so much non-stop talking that I got a headache. Also, I learned that what might be a funny throw-away sight gag isn't so funny when it'sdescribedveryrapidly in the brief seconds between characters talking.

Liked the episode, but not as much as I think I would've ordinarily.

Hedda Rosa
01-13-2003, 01:33 PM
Ok, now I get why that would be a continuity problem - thanks for explaining.

Hey Atreyu, any answer from chunkylover53?

This episode was to some degree a return to form: probably one of the best episodes so far this very uneven season, and definately near the top in the list of the last few years.

Bart's attempt to take Marge's mind off Lisa, and her reaction, were hilarious. The greasepaint glasses and eyebrows, the "how ironic" line, both of the mall videos (my hobbies include... ), "when do we want it!", etc.- all great bits.

There were a few clunkers of course: the pre-commercial setups sort of fell flat (Do kids remember bad birthdays? Yeah... I'm not good?), the editing was oddly off where Wiggum throws down his and the laser hits Colt (probably deleted scenes there for time, and didn't cover it well), and they could have had Ralph think of something else other than a nosepick line we've heard before.

Stupid Fox 5 DC!! Grumble!

I lost 7 minutes of prime Simpsons. Idiots.

First they showed the intro, then literally a tape rewinding, then the techical difficulties type screen, then the wrong episode for 7 minutes.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

That's true...I realized that it would make more sense if someone created an AOL account just for that reason. Qu'est-ce que c'est un bounceback?

My brother and I were wondering about the cannonball and why it didn't kill Homer, like the vet said. I did think the line about Lisa looking like a powerpuff girls was utterly adorable. :)

Does this make Lisa the only Simpson to have had a birthday shown twice? (And does it make her the only girl in America to have celebrated her eighth birthday twice?) At least Bart learned from his mistake and got his sister a gift. This time it was Homer who screwed up. Will the poor kid ever get a good birthday?

i recall another time homer and bart ragging on Lisa and saying "at least it isn't your birthday" and Lisa says "it IS my birthday!"

Yes ArchiveGuy, Descriptive Audio Programing from the seeing impaired. From the people who brought you closed captioning for the hearing impaired. SAP can be easily turned off.

And now, I'll fill the rest of this out with random quotes from the episode:

"Help! Indians are stealing all the [McNuggets! Mmm...McNuggets...graaa...]"
"I'll stop 'em, just as sure as my favorite book is [magazines! Zzzzz....Dad, wake up! What?]"

"Hey hey! I'm anatomically correct! Go ahead, take a look."

"You'd better get that checked out. I had an uncle who died of crotch-dot."

All email exchanges, even bounced ones, are recorded in server logs. I pay particular attention to the bounced messages on my server.

They have your email address. All your base belong to AOL.

Oh that's right...when they blow up her room, and then take her to the book fair to make her feel better. Okay, so Lisa's had three birthdays.

This was easily the best Simpsons episode in a LOOONG time. However, a pox on FOX (hey that rhymes!) for putting that "JOE MILLIONAIRE" splash screen right in the middle of the episode!! I thoroughly hate those ads-in-shows that seem to be so commonplace nowadays, but this one took up nearly half the screen!!!!! (So I guess it was a blessing in disguise that I didn't catch the show until 8:02 and didn't have time to pop in a tape; in fact I'll probably wait until J.Mill is done before taping the show again.)

Best line: "Children don't remember bad birthdays, do they?"

Smeghead

Those all sound a little... forced. I think what we're looking at here may be a "first mover" fan rather than someone from the show. Unless they put an AP in charge of it or something. Although they had to know that they'd get a huge response.

Can AOL users check to see when the person registered that profile?

There's just so much potential in Homer's AOL profile, I was salivating to read that and then was a little dissappointed.

Homer wrote back.

In the e-mail responding to my question of whether or not the Turbo Diary was enough to patch things up with Lisa, the response was:

After a while, she forgot she was mad. You know how it is.

This is either someone who agreed to have their e-mail address used in an episode, or a person who works for the staff producing The Simpsons.
