Where's the heat, you ask?

I've mentioned in a couple of other threads that my husband recently got a new job. He's the head of plant engineering and maintenance at a manufacturing plant in Havre de Grace, Md. He's been on the job all of four days.

I think most of you are aware that the east coast has been extremely cold lately. The plant is older and their heating system has apparently been less than adequate. Steve's inbox was full of emails from his coworkers asking him about thelack of heat. He forwarded me a copy of the email that he sent to everyone. I just have to share it:

There is a lot of misunderstanding about what heat is, so I'll try and make it clear: heat is not a thing, heat is a process.

Here's the definition: HEAT is the transfer of energy between two objects due to temperature differences. When work gets done HEAT is transferred form the thing doing the work to the environment. Generally, the thing doing the work will experience an increase in temperature due to the work being done and will transfer heat to the environment.

Ergo, if we are too cold we aren't working hard enough. QED

P.S. We have been in contact with a contractor and are trying to remedy the problem.Is it any wonder I love the man? :D
