Every time I shop, I'm convinced we're out of the good tissues (puffs plus, btw) and I'll buy another box.

Weird compulsion, have about 15 boxes now in the linen closet. I'm running out of room for the towels!! :smack:


Do you have things that you are compelled to buy, that you don't really need??

Lately it's toothbrushes. The brand I like has been 2-for-1, so I'll pick up a couple of packages if I think about it. It's not like they'll go bad or anything...

You can never buy enough toilet paper. There should be a closet or cabinet devoted to nothing but toilet paper. There should be at least two unopened packs of toilet paper in all bathrooms at all times. There should always be one roll of tp on the tp dispenser and a spare sitting on the back of the toilet in each bathroom at all times. The tp should also be two ply.

Why no, I am not obsessed with the idea that I might run out of toilet paper. Whatever gave you that idea?

I was talking to her the other day on the phone and I mentioned that I needed to go to the store - she asked what for & I told her I was out of TP. She was flabbergasted that any child of hers didn't have at least 24 rolls in the house at all times. (I am single with no kids - not like I need a huge TP Reserve). Anyway, to humor her (mostly), I bought the huge Family Pack.

She OTOH, always has about 72 rolls or more in the house.

I'd say pop in general. For a long time I thought I was overstocked on Coke, and I could never pass up the sales at the supermarket even if I knew I already had six or seven twelve-packs back home. I realized that after deciding to let my overstock deplete I'd buy some. Unfortunately for the past two weeks they haven't had Coca-Cola products on sale, just Pepsi products, which I don't mind, but would rather have Coke (just my preference, not trying to start a cola war here.) Now I am out and I will need to find another store that has a good buy on it.

As a bachelor who can't cook, I'd also have to say that I can never have enough cans of soup, ravioli, chili, etc. in the cupboard.

Lipstick. I only wear it about once a week, when I think of it and I'm feeling glamorous, but if I see some on sale, or a new display, or a coupon for it, I always end up buying it. I have more lipstick in my medicine cabinet than anyone should...and most of it's only been worn once.

For myself it has to be pens. Red or blue, ball point or jelly. I just don't care. I will buy them even though I have four at home with the exact same shade of purple ink. They just look so damn cool.

For the roommate it has to be coats. When we go to the laundymat, there will be at least 6 coats or jackets there to be washed. He gave me a heavy jean jacket for Xmas a few years ago, and gets mad at me for not wearing it. At which time I remind him, that they're his obsession, not mine.

Our kitchen has at least 6 different flavors of tea. Not including the 3 different brands of black/peoke teas, and 2 different versions of green.

I had to buy a little rectangular plastic basket and then tell myself firmly that the rule is that I can't have more nail polish than I can fit into the basket. Otherwise, I end up with so much that I can't get more than two uses out of each bottle before they start turning gunky.

Diet Coke. I love the stuff, but it really bothers me to pay more than 99 cents for a 2-liter bottle.

How much I stock up depends on how good the sale is. If it's 89 cents, I'll get a month's worth. (And no, I'm not telling how much that is, since I don't want to admit how much I'm addicted to the stuff.) If it's 79 cents, maybe 2 months worth. And once a year or so, it goes down to 69 cents and I'll buy as much as I can drink before the expiration date on the bottles.

For some reason I can never remember whether I have chili powder when I'm making chili con carne for dinner. Mr. Tupug is the same way with paprika when he makes his famous drummettes. Needless to say, my spice rack overfloweth with those two spices. On purpose I buy ketchup every week since the Prince of Tires eats it on everything. Then there's Spicey V-8 in the big bottles. I always clear off the shelf when I see it as it's a daily staple of my diet. Don't want to be caught without.

I go through stages. Sometimes it's toilet paper, sometimes shampoo, diet coke, whatever.

Lately it's been, oddly enough, rice. I always get some kind of rice when I'm at the grocery. We eat a lot of it, and I'm always convinced we can use a little more. Funny that this thread should come up because I was looking inthe pantry this morning and thinking to myself, "Man, we've got enough rice to feed an army."

The only consistent thing on my list is Hairbo Gold Bears, which are my personal crack.

I'm really bad about getting Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken soup while I'm at the store. I get it every time I'm there, and I get a lot of it. Then the one time I'm at the store and I say to myself "I don't need any. I have plenty." I get home and we are out.

I also seem to do this with macaroni noodles, lasagna noodles, campanelle noodles, and spaghetti/linguine noodles. I buy tons of that stuff.
