DIY Wedding cake decoration preservation

A good friend of mine just came back from her honeymoon and is wanting to preserve her icing sugar wedding cake decorations. They are gorgeous and very finely detailed.

Anybody here preserved their own decorations, or know of someone who has done it ? How did they do it ? Was it relatively simple, or not worth the hassle ?

I just stuck mine in the freezer. If she wants to keep them for a long time perhaps putting them in some kind of container might help also (mine are just wrapped in cling wrap and getting a little battered).
