Bow all. I'm not sure if this is the right Forum, but I hope so...

I'm Ryan the Wise. A well respectful hello to all. Anyways, on to the business!

I am a huge Tolkien fan and would love to discuss all things JRRT with anybody, but I am, and have been, having a real big problem finding a very good intellectual forum on the internet for all things JRRT. Usenet via Google is good for archives I suppose, but the postings are quite dry. Does anybody have any good references?

I know this is opionated, but being a LIT topic.....

Bow,

Ryan

ps. is there anything better than SDMB? maybe tolkien related?
;) :D

There was a bunch of Tolkien stuff in CS before... the mysterious accident. We don't talk about it anymore. As Thom Yorke once said, "everything is broken".

I don't know if I can help you out, but Tolkien seems to be a perennial fave around these here parts anyway. So soon we'll all be back on track, laughing merrily about hobbits and ents. I take it you tried searching and came up with nothing?

Yes...it's strange...wasn't this the conspiracy in conspiracy theory...I think Patrick Stewart is on to us.

Go to the Cafe Society forum. Keep working back to earlier threads.
Your life expectancy is probably shorter than the time it would take to review all the Tolkien stuff there.

Also, the ATMD (About This Message Board) forum contains much information about appropriate fora for a given subject, FAQ's and such.

Welcome to the SDMB!

Welcome to the SDMB, Ryan the Wise. A few tips:

1) This is completely the wrong forum. Anything book, movie, TV, or gastronomically-related goes in Cafe Society A mod will probably be along pretty soon to move this thread. Don't sweat it-we all screw up every now and again.

2) Do a search over in CS. We're knee-deep in Tolkien over there usually. There's more LotR stuff there than you can shake a stick at.

3) If there's a specific part of the book or movie you want to discuss, you may want to start a thread in CS about it. We have lots and lots of very knowledgeable Tolkien fans on the boards. Somebody will be along eventually.

4) Have you checked out www.xenite.org? I just found this site the other day and it's amazing. Click on the Tolkien links and you'll come to the archives of all of Michael Martinez's articles. They're well-written, in-depth, and funny to boot. There used to be a pretty good Lit. Discussion board for Tolkien at www.imladris.net. I'm not sure if it exists anymore, though. You may want to google this and find out. You are also cordially invited to drop me an e-mail if you'd like. (addy's in my profile)

Good luck, and have fun in your search. The SDMB is a goldmine; you'll find the most amazing stuff here that you didn't even know you were looking for. :)

If you are looking for another group of intelligent fantasy fans that would be more than willing to discuss Tolkien with you, I'm sure... head over to http://www.bibliora.com

Imladris does not exist anymore, in fact it was up for sale on eBay (which is scary), but http://www.council-of-elrond.com/forums/ does exist. The lit section is filled with Tolkien brainiacs.

Thanks for all the supportive help. I'll have to check out CS.
