That one that premired during the super bowl, where "Gilligan has the Coast Guard on speed dial."

If they are on a desert island, how is the phone going to work?

Well, because they never stop working for you. "Can you hear me now? Gooooood...." ;)

Cell phone towers have very limited distance. Unless there's a wired tower 10s of miles away, a regular cell phone won't work. A satellite phone would work great, but that's not what being advertised.

As usual, you shouldn't believe anything you see on TV, a commercial even more so.

I just want to mention that I think that commercial is damn clever.

And do we really know that the desert island is all that far away from civilization? It might be that it's only like 9 1/2 miles from Honolulu, but in case you haven't noticed, the 7 stranded castaways happen to be marine-ly challenged. A stock ticker from coconuts they can make, a raft not so much.

Not only did they get the technology wrong, but they don't understand the characters, either. Even with a working cell phone and the Coast Guard on speed dial, is there anyone here who doesn't intuitively know that Gilligan would find some way to screw it up? Hell, there was an episode of the series where they had a phone and they still couldn't get rescured.

I find it mildly annoying that the show has been kinda sold to ads. The same thing happened with the Brady Bunch and Old Navy. It is about as classy as using an actress dressed to look like Princess Diana selling cars or something like that.

I liked the other desert island commerical, about FedxEx and a take on Castaway better. It shows a deshevled man deliving a FedEx package to a lady, and says how he was trapped on an island for five years but delivered her package. Upon asking what's inside, she reples,
"Oh, just a satellite phone, GPS, signal flare, emergeny rations, and so forth. Thanks!"

Did anyone notice that at several points in the commercial, there are only six castaways? Ginger is the one obviously missing. Evidently Tina Louise wouldn't even allowed her image to be doubled.

i thought that commercial was dumb. As stated above, Gilligan would screw it up, the phone wouldn't work anyway, plus they are saying their product would prevent the creation of a much beloved show. It's like they were adversiting that their product would blow up the USS Enterprise and shut down Cheers because of the 18th Amendment.
