I was at work today, and they played Seal's "Kiss by a Rose" as the Muzak of the moment, and I noticed that whenever I hear that song, I always think of Batman. And, being the SDMB geek that I am, I thought, "Hey, that'll make a good thread!" So...
Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing"- Armageddon
Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"- Wayne's World (showing my age, aren't I?)
Smashmouth's "All-Star"- Mystery Men
George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone"- Terminator 2

I'm not sure if these qualify...
1) Houston/I'll Always Love You/Bodyguard
2) White/You Sexy Thing/Full Monty
3) Any "title" song
e.g. Goldeneye, Die Another Day ...etc

I will always cringe when I hear "Stuck in the Middle With You" because of its placement in Reservoir Dogs.
And at least that godawful "Can't Fight the Moonlight" song by Leann Rimes will be forever linked with images of Piper Perabo dancing on a bar in Coyote Ugly.

Sorry, the iconic music from 2001: A Space Odyssey was Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra.
Fanfare for the Common Man is the theme associated with the Olympics.
Speaking of the Olympics, Chariots of Fire from Chariots of Fire.
Also Smashmouth's All Star and Shrek.
"Doo Wah Diddy" and Stripes.
Non, je ne regrette rien and Babe 2 A Pig in the City.
Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Faure from Babe.

While I don't link the song and the movie, I think that using "Where Is My Mind" by The Pixies at the end of "Fight Club" was just brilliant. It just fit musically.
"Judy Is A Punk" by The Ramones from "The Royal Tennenbaums".
"Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss and "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss from "2001: A Space Odyssey".
That "Oh, Yeah" song from "Ferris Buller's Day Off". Ch'chicka. Bow bow. Oh, and "When Cameron was in Egypt Land... Let My Cameron Go".
Actually, pretty much any synth-pop song from any John Hughes movie.

For years I thought of The Deer Hunter every time I heard Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You."
One day a few years ago I was riding around town with my then-beau on a Sunday afternoon when that song came on the car radio. I told him what I just told you, and he said, "you are so weird. Why would you think of that association; nobody but you remembers that; blah, blah, blah."
Imagine his amazement when the song ended and the DJ came on and said, "Aah, remember that great scene in the pool hall in The Deer Hunter?

The thing about Wes Anderson's movies is that every song in them so perfectly fits the scene(s) they're matched with that pretty much any song in Rushmore or The Royal Tennenbaums (Haven't seen Bottle Rockets) could become forever associated with that film in your mind.

Even more indelible from the same movie is Goodbye Horses from Q Lazarus, though it's a little known tune. Everyone seems to remember it from the scene where Buffalo Bill is dancing in front of the camera followed by the.......uhh........."package tucking" scene.

Not movies, but whenever I hear "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin I think of the episode with the same name from "The X-Files."
When I hear "Your Song" by Elton John I think of Moulin Rouge. Same with "Roxanne" by The Police.
I heard "Funniculi, Funnicula" the other day and instantly thought of Heavenly Creatures, which kind of surprised me, since I'd heard the song hundreds of times before seeing that movie.
And count me in as another who associates "Singin' in the Rain" with A Clockwork Orange instead of Singin' in the Rain.

There's kindof an obscure movie from 1977 with Henry Winkler and Harrison Ford called Heroes. I don't remember any of the details, I just recall that Henry Winkler played a Viet Nam vet who (possibly) escaped from (or voluntarily signed out of) a mental hospital in search of some of his Nam buddies. As I recall, he slowly sunk into despair as his friends, one by one, abandoned him and he couldn't fulfill his dream of starting (yes, you're reading it right) a worm farm. I was 16 when I saw it and it was probably a really, really bad movie, but I'll never forget crying when they rolled the credits while playing Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas. And I still can't hear that song and not think of that movie.
Also, there's...
Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes, from An Officer and a Gentleman
Take a Look at Me Now by Phil Collins, from Against All Odds
and of course,
Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) by Christopher Cross, from Arthur

Also from Animal House: the scene where Steven what's-his-name is playing guitar on the stairs inside the frat house -- the song goes "I bought my love a flower" or something inane like that. I actually met the composer a couple of years ago; he also wrote the theme for Tootsie. He's sort of odd.

How about "Same Old Song" by the Four Tops, in Blood Simple. Ugh...every time I hear that song, I think of mopping up blood on a barroom floor with a teeny tiny t-shirt...or I think about possibly the world's creepiest Texan cowboy. Still good, though.

Music for a Cat Walking on a Piano- Eyes Wide Shut
William Tell Overture
Pomp and Circumstance I and IV
The Theiving Magpie
Beethoven's Ninth
-all from A Clockwork Orange
Tanhauser Overture- Bram Stoker's Dracula
We had to watch that crap for a course. The only thing that got me thru it was Wiona Ryder, the woman who played Persephone in The Matrix Reloaded as a scantily clad vampress and her two vampress friends, the fact that Hopkins reminded me of a professor of mine, and humming the Pilgrim's Chorus whenever Dracula assumed his old form.

All Along the Watchtower and Blowin in the Wind remind me of Forrest Gump. Oh, and Turn Turn Turn, as well.
Don't You Forget About Me is definitely The Breakfast Club, but another song that reminds me of that movie is Changes by David Bowie. The opening of that movie has a quote from that song: "And these children that you spit upon as they try to change their worlds, are immune to your consultations, they're quite aware of what they're going through."
Time Is On My Side by the Rolling Stones - Fallen, with Denzel Washington and John Goodman.
Into the Mystic by Van Morrisson - Dream a Little Dream (hey, I was only 16.) This song also reminds me of Immediate Family, with Glenn Close and Mary Stuart Masterson.
Any of the music from the movie Stand By Me. I think I've got that movie memorized. Same with other teen movies of the 80s: Ferris, TBC, 16 Candles, Better Off Dead, Back to the Future, etc...
Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears - Real Genius
Invincible by Pat Benatar - The Legend of Billie Jean
I'll Take You There (not sure who the artist is) - Threesome

My thread! It's aliiiiive!
Now that I think about it, the 20th Century Fox Fanfare immediately makes me think of Star Wars, but that's probably just me.

Queen provided the entire soundtrack, nearly. Most of the songs are from "A Kind of Magic" - much of the album was written for the film, including the title track, Gimme The Prize and Don't Lose Your Head. The only track of significance not from that album is Hammer To Fall, which Kirk Matunas listens to in his car shortly before his meeting with the Kurgan.

Oh, and that fucking awful Celine Dion song and Titanic. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it before. Maybe we're all blocking?

I second unchained melody for ghost and bittersweet symphony for cruel intentions (*sobs*...you have to feel sorry for Kathryn)
Also....
Supermodel by Jill Sobule - Clueless
Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits - Empire Records
But most of all
Mad World - Donnie Darko
I feel terrible, I dont even know who it is by..like Garry Jules or something. It's a fantastic song, but gets so much recognition for being the Donnie Darko song. *sigh*

And yes we are all ignoring the Titanic song....what person in their right mind wants to think about that song (and if anyone quotes me and tries to argue that it is a good song...one word for you shuttup. Or maybe that is two shut....up. The second one has more impact, its two.)
