Please Help ID This Foreign Film

A man and woman are traveling around in what appears to be a Latin-American country. They have sort of a monster car. They have an unpleasant encounter with a group of people (the woman's family?) whom the man later shoots.

At the end, the couple catches a ferry (their car exploded for some reason). There is a TV on the ferry, and the woman sees the news reports of the multiple slaying.

Were the people Latin-American (or Spanish-speaking) also? Or were they speaking a different language? Can you narrow down when the film might have been made or released? When or how you saw it?

As I recall, it was all in Spanish. I saw it late at night on a Spanish TV station.
