View Full Version : Revive someone's 15 minutes of fame

Make 'em famous again, for a few seconds, on this thread. The more inconsequential and brief their "accomplishment" the better.
For example: That shirtless "Soy Bomb" dude who jumped on stage while Bob Dylan was performing and danced until security figured out what was going on...he was trying to make some sort of "artistic statement".

Geez, my sincere condolences. He actually had a morning radio gig in Boston for about six months or so...part of one of those "whacky" morning zoo shows. They made a big deal about it when they got him, then quietly dropped him a few months later. He brought nothing at all to the table, aside from being famous for being famous.
ronincyberpunk, I was just thinking about that Apple girl the other day. Wish I had thought of her for this thread.

Hey, Nena is still a big star in Germany. A few months ago she put out a new single called "Old School Baby" with Westbam, one of the biggest German DJs. Not bad either.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Here's how to revive someone's fifteen minutes of fame. You encourage them to do more things that will accrue fame and increase their celebrity status. Here's my suggestion:
SDMB Book* of the Month and Celebrity Birthday Party Club
Each month, Dopers in each city will convene to (1) discuss the book of the month, duly chosen at the close of the prior month's meeting; (2) eat nachos**; and (3) celebrate the celebrity who's celebrity stock you'd like to rise -- who celebrates their birthday during that month -- by having them chair the discussion.
C'mon, how great would it be to have Bobcat Goldthwaite read aloud his favorite passages from The Old Man and the Sea? Surely the experience would inspire him to seek the limelight further...
Just my humble suggestion. I hereby apologize for the interruption.
* Substitute Horror Movies or Psychoactive Drugs as desired
** Bring Your Own Nachos.

Come on, Bobby McFerrin was only universally famous for a while, but he doesn't count here. He is hugely accomplished and respected in the music world.

Yes, and I believe Yahoo Serious is still making movies.
Doesn't make him famous, though. The thread is "Revive someone's 15 minutes of fame", not "Revive someone's 15 minutes when they were accomplished and respected".

Laughing: thing is, he's still respected. I just can't seem to place Bobby McFerrin in the same category as Kato Kaelin. Most of the others mentioned have tried to comeback, while McFerrin just doesn't care.

A distinction the relevance of which escapes me. Either a person is famous, or they aren't. When McFerrin had a song in the top 40 (top 10?) with a video in heavy rotation on MTV, I suspect he wasn't biding his time for the day when he could headline in Gainesville.

Matt Young is one of the few pitchers to ever pitch a no-hitter and lose. Cleveland won, 2-1. Young walked Kenny Lofton twice, who stole second twice, was advanced to third twice, and sacrificed home, twice.

I admit it, I've stayed up late and caught a few "Head of the Class" reruns on Nick at Night. Remember her? She played Simone, the ultra-hot redhead who unfortunately sat at the back of the class, so you didn't see her nearly often enough.
Mmmm, seeing her again has rekindled that old high-school crush o' mine....
