I made a thread asking about banned members, and the thread was almost immediately moved to the pit. Why? I thought it was IMHO material, I was just asking for feedback from dopers.

I'm not a mod/admin, and I have no idea what thread you're talking about, but I can think of two reasons it might have been moved. First, discussions of previous bannings can become heated. Second, if it's a question about banning policy, or a criticism of particular instances of the application of that policy, then, as the forum description on the main page says:
This is the place for all complaints and other discussion regarding administration of the SDMB
So, it may have had something to do with that. But, like I say, IANAModerator, and IANAware of which thread this is about.

The thread in question. (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=179369)
If you're making a complaint about your thread being moved, that's BBQ Pit territory, as wolfstu pointed out.
If you want to know why Czarcasm moved your thread -- well, have you tried emailing him?

You mean this thread? Have there been any members here who you felt were banned unjustly? (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=179369)
This thread is a request for instances of questionable moderator actions. Even if your question is not a direct Pit topic, the posts required to answer the question would most definitely be criticisms of moderator actions. Ergo, the thread belongs in the Pit.
By the way, this is explained in the thread itself.
