I remember my dad taking me to go see He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Dolph Lundgren will always be He-Man in my eyes. :)

Now, my parents tell me the first movie they ever took me to see was The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. A fact they always grimace at.

So, what's the first movie you remember going to see at a theater?

The first one I actually remember going to was with my mom and my brother. Mom took us to see PSYCHO. She didn't know exactly how frightening it was to small children. Ha. Fooled her! I may have seen others before that, but obviously, this one is burned into my memory. Forever. Like a terror tattoo.

Movies were pretty rare when I was little - reserved for special treats and the like.

The first movie I ever saw in a theater? Star Wars. I was 4.

The first movie I remember seeing was "Sleeping Beauty." (the Disney version, of course.) The part where the sorceress turns into a dragon alsays scared me, so I'd fast-forward throught it.

The first movie I was ever taken to was Disney's Pete's Dragon in 1977. I was only 3 so I sort of remember it, but I remember seeing Song of the South more vividly just a year or two later.

The first 4 movies I remember being taken to go and see were

Star Trek : The Motion Picture
Superman
Star Wars
Double bill of The Man With The Golden Gun & Live And Let Die

Can't remember the order though I'm thinking Star Wars was probably first.

The first movie I remember seeing was on TV -- it was Son of Kong.

The first movie I remember seeing in a theater was The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. It wasn't the first release, though -- it was a Saturday matinee probably a year or two later.

First trip to the cinema was to see the Doug McLure dino-fest "The Land That Time Forgot". I was about six, and it was pretty scary as I recall. Seen it a couple of times since, and it's really not stood the test of time!

The first movie I remember seeing in the theatre with my parents was "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I was four and my sister was five. They still tease us sometimes about how my sister covered up her eyes during the snake pit scene (which captivated me) and cooed over the "mushy" kissing scene, which made me cover my eyes and squeal. :)

The first one I remember seeing in the theatre was ET. I'm not really sure how old I was (4 or 5 maybe?), but I do remember my sister being so frightened that we had to leave.

First two films I saw in a theater were a double bill of Mothra and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Mothra ran first. More than 40 years later, I can still recall how strange and overwhelming the whole experience was.

Interesting to note that most everyone's first film was some sort of bizzaro fantasy-fest.

I grew up in a Pentecostal church. We were taught that movies were tools of Satan and would corrupt us; same goes for roller skating at the rink, organized baseball games, bowling and just about anywhere else people have fun without a preacher sermonizing. (Some church members took that more strictly and wouldn't even watch television.) I didn't see a movie in a theater until I was 17. It was Inner Space.

God, I feel so old.

The first movie I remember seeing was Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Saw it at the drive-in. It was double billed with Doctor Zhivago. The kids movie was shown first, and by the time the Doctor started, I was sound asleep on top of the car.

That totally reminds me of a story. The sister right below me in the lineup (there's six of us) is four years younger than me. The first movie she ever went to with all of us was "Harry and the Hendersons". For those of you who aren't familiar with this, it was a sappy semi-kids movie where a bigfoot lives with a suburban family, much hijinks ensue, etc. etc. Anyway, the final scene has the family--with much reluctance--returning Harry to the woods where he meets up with the rest of the bigfoot tribe. My lil sis watched the entire thing raptly and without uttering a peep (I'm thinking she was probably four or five at the time). As the final scene faded and the lights went up, there was this sudden earshattering howl of complete and utter misery. I look over and there she is, tears streaming down her face, mouth wide open, and this unholy noise just pouring from her. I'm not talking childish sobbing here, I mean loud, sustained wailing. "Haaaarrrrryyy!" She was devestated. I can still remember her crying the whole way home. Poor kid, it was a while before my mom took us to the movies again.

I trust your parents remembered to take you down before they drove away? Those were the days...

My first movie out was Mary Poppins. Those chimney sweeps scared the living hell out of me, with their hopping up and down and jumping in and out of chimneys...

I can't really say that I remember the first one. My folks went to the drive-in frequently and simply took us along for the ride. I usually ended up sleeping through the movie.

I do remember seeing Dirty Harry at the drive-in when I was four. That's not a film to let a four-year-old see. The opening scene of the film shows a man shooting a nice lady who is in a swimming pool. She thrashes and bleeds quite a bit before dying. Scarred me for life, that did.

Showing my age here... the first movie I remember seeing in a theater was "That Darn Cat," which my grandmother took me to see at Radio City Music Hall back in 1965!

Mine is The Empire Strikes Back at the ripe old age of 3. My parents were afraid I'd be all fidgity and run up and down the aisles of the theater, but they said I literally sat at the edge of my seat riveted until it was over.

The first movie I remember seeing was Star Wars. My father rented a movie projector when I was about 3 and we got to watch it in our living room.

The first movie I saw in any type of theatre was Winnie The Pooh at a drive in when I was about 4. I'm pretty sure it was a double feature but I don't remember what the second one was.

The first movie I saw in an actual movie theatre was E.T. whenever it came out - 1983 sound about right? I guess I would have been 5 or 6 depending on the month of it's release.

The original Snow White in about 1962... I was 4 years old and my parents dropped my older sister and myself off at the theater and left. Given that this was extremely unorthodox behaviour for them I later wondered as an adult what the hell they were doing while we were in the movie...

We went to the drive-in every so often when I was a kid so I forget which was first...either Disney's The Rescuers or The Jungle Book.

First movie in a theater was an odd experience. Mom said we were going to see a movie and I was perplexed as to how we could go see a movie #1) in the middle of the day and #2) inside a building! You'll laugh when you find out what it was:

In Search of Noah's Ark! http://us.imdb.com/Title?0076182

IMDB says 1977, so I guess I was 6 years old. I really remember little to nothing about it!

The first movie I remember seeing was [i]Yours, Mine andOurs[\i] A Henry Fonda/Luclle Ball comedy based on the true story of a widow with 10 kids marrying a widower with 8 (they have more together). That came out in 1968, so I'd've been 7. I'm sure there were others - my family liked to pile all us kids into the stationwagon and go to the drive-in.

I guess I'd go with Star Wars...at a drive-in to boot.

This thread is weird :D The first movie I was ever [i]taken[/b] to was Star Wars: a new hope. I was all of six weeks old. I wonder if the noise made an impression on my infant mind, and is a buried memory is responsible for my dislike of the series.

The first movies I remember seeing (it was at the drive-in so there were two) were Bambi and The Blue Lagoon. My guess is that everyone hoped the cartoon would tire out the tots, but not so in my case; I thought the Blue Lagoon was wicked cool because of the stranded on an island thing. I must have been three since TBL was released in 1980.

I don't remember watching the previous two movies, and yet I had all the toys. Weird.

The first one I can remember is either the re-release of Lady and the Tramp in the mid-80s or when my parents and some fo their friends went to see the Chuck Berry documentary Hail! Hail! Rock 'n'Roll in 1987.

We went to the drive-in regularly when I was a kid (I still miss the playground they had at the one we went to), but the first movie saw in a theatre was The Empire Strikes Back when I was four. I guess I was five or so when Dad took me (just me, Mom and my butt-headed big brother didn't get to go!) to a matinee of Lady and the Tramp. It's still one of my all-time favorites.

Wow! This is a question that takes me back (a long way back!)

It was either Kill The Umpire starring William Bendix (who also was in the TV program called Life of Riley), or Francis the Talking Mule, starring Donald O'Conner and a mule.

I also remember seeing The Living Desert which was a nature documetary from Disney. Many years later I learned that some of the scenes were "set-ups"; as a kid I thought they were all 100% natural - after all, they were made by Walt Disney.

Ah, the innocence of youth.

My parents were the type who didn't go to movies, so until I was about 13-14 neither did I.

Except for the time my buddy up the street had a birthday. And his parents were "with-it" modern. So they took us to see [ii]Them[/b] in 1954 with James Whitmore, et al. Boy, as a kid that was neat. Scary but neat. At a theater on Columbia PIke in South Arlington which has long ago been demolished.

As a young teen, I started going to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movies. Hey! There's no accounting for taste.

My mom loves to remind me of when she took us to see this movie. Apparently, at the ending, when a bunch of sad stuff happened, the theater was hushed in a sense of mourning when ... in my outpouring of 4-5 year old emotion, I let out a loud cry of sadness and proceeded to sob. Everyone in the theater apparently said "Awwwwww!"

Thing is, I do remember seeing this in the theater - I do not remember this incident.

Like many, my first movie was Star Wars - at least that's what I remember. I was four. I might have seen The Wizard of Oz prior to that on TV.

The first movie I went to see was Charlotte's Web, and I must have been about three years old.

Not long afterwards I also saw a really freaky children's movie called The Nutcracker Fantasy about rats living in a clock (IIRC). This film seems to be lost in the mists of time, because I haven't heard of it since.

The third film I saw was the '82 rerelease of Star Wars. I have a pretty good memory of this, and it's something I recall with fondness. Star Wars really was something special back then.

Another great drive-in memory here. It was a hot summer night in my home town of Antioch Calif. The family piled into our Volkswagon bus and headed off to the drive-In. There our young eyes were enraptured by the then-leading-edge animation of Sleeping Beauty.

I remember that the witch scared me to death when she turned into the dragon. But it was then and there that I became a fan of the big big screen. Probably why I enjoy IMAX so much now.

According to my parents, it was one of the Star Trek films. Not that I'm doubting them, just that I don't remember it at all. I was born in '84, so if one came out in '87-'88, it was probably that one. I think the first film I remember seeing in a theater was Disney's Peter Pan, but I'm pretty sure that, like so many others, Star Wars was the first that I remember.
Except for the time my buddy up the street had a birthday. And his parents were "with-it" modern. So they took us to see Them in 1954 with James Whitmore, et al. Boy, as a kid that was neat. Scary but neat. At a theater on Columbia PIke in South Arlington which has long ago been demolished. I saw Them when I was about 10 or 12, and loved it, but that's not really the point. I took a class in Science Fiction at the local junior college during one summer in high school, and the teacher was telling a story about when he saw Them. He was about 8 years old and went and saw it (I think by himself), then as he was coming home at dusk, he opens the garage, and the rusty springs make the exact sound of the ants. Scares the hell out of him, he gets to the house in about 3 steps and runs and hides in bed.

I was terrified. I never saw it again. To this day, I still don't know who framed him...
