We just had an incident with a roach, after which my friend had a question about roach motels:

Why are roach motels called that?
Also, does it say something about the motel industry in general?

"Roaches check in, but they don't check out." It would appear that "Roach Motel", plus the slogan, were part of the commercial sales pitch Black Flag used to introduce their insect traps. I'd say it reflects on the temporary, seedy connotation of motel accomodation, as that usually of the overnight traveller.

One of my favorite Far Side cartoons:

The Roach family is pulling up to a Roach Motel in their car. In the back seat, the Roach kids are yelling, "Make sure they have cable!"
