2: That's funny. Homosexuality makes you want to barf? What a good reason to oppose it! You know, most straight people that are accepting and open to gay/lesbian folks probably don't find it to be their cup of tea either - that's why they're straight! Not finding it to be appealing has never been a good reason to despise something

3: The Biggie. I'm SO glad to hear that you'd be proud to disown a GLB family member! What a wonderful display of unconditional love and support for your family! They must be proud to have such a morally upstanding person in their family, with the strength to disown them for being one o' them homo-sexuals.

Seriously, how sick is that? This kind of ignorance and bigotry has no place on the SDMB, people.

4: The possibility exists that you were joking. Haha - don't do it again, if you were. It was still out of place, inappropriate, and not funny. But somehow, I don't think you were. Here's what I think you should do, presented as option a and b.

A: Reexamine your attitude. Get some education, come back when you've learned a little about how hard it is to be gay in this society, especially if you have family members that would willingly and proudly disown you. Try and imagine, just a little bit, of having those that are supposed to love you unconditionally and unreservedly abandon you, wish death on you, call you "fag" instead of "son." Very proud, huh? What a wonderful thing to do.

If you find you just can't accept this, then you should know better than to bring it up here. Don't participate in threads like the one linked. It's inappropriate, it's ignorant, and it's unfair. Don't do it. If you find, as you said, that you "Just have to say it," then -

Obviously you guys have not experienced the horror that is durian. At my cousin's house, we noticed this terrible stench coming from the kitchen, which just happens to be the dog's favourite room. We thought he'd crapped or vomited inside, and when my cousin announced that the smell was actually durian, we were even more disgusted.

I don't think I'd disown a durian eating member of the family, but I'd certainly make them eat it outside.

Anyway, for me, it's grapefruit. I'm a very finiky eater in general, but grapefruit sets off all of my "Oh my god, what horrible toxic substance have you put in your mouth?!" tastebuds.
