OK, I think it was a spider, at least an arachnid, but here goes the description:

Color: the prosoma was black. The opisthosoma, orange and was sometimes carried up at a 90º angle. The terminal segments/joints of the front legs were a light, light orangish color. The rest were all black.

Body: Prosoma and opisthosoma were longish and roughly the same size. About as thick as a match and as long as my thumbnail ('bout ½ inch). The pedipalps looked really long. It seemed to walk like a *daddy-longlegs; i.e., with the joints of the legs higher than the body.

It was just ambling around on a vine. There was no evidence of a web.

Anyone??? I'm not an entymologist, and at times like this it really bugs me.

*Or like the mechanical spider on Jonny Quest that was operated by the evil Dr. Zin.

How bout this one (http://entomology.unl.edu/images/spiders/trachelas_tran.jpg)?

Or, closer to your description, this one (http://140.211.62.101/Action.Lasso?-database=Photo%20Catalog&-layout=Form%20View&-response=catalog%2fdetail.html&-recid=70&-search) (red striped jumping spider)?

Try arachnology.org (http://www.arachnology.org) to see if you can find it, and GOOD LUCK. It became very tedious very quickly, mostly due to the ton of rather disorganized info on that site...
