View Full Version : Comatose Menstruation
My girlfriend asked me a question last night regarding people in comas. Why she thought that I would have any idea about the answer, being a software enginner and maths graduate, beats the hell out of me but that's the price of being a smart alec, I guess.
Anyhow, the question is simply "Do women in comas still menstruate?"
Don't blame me...it's her question!

You occasionally see a prosecution in the papers where a care worker impregnates a woman in a coma.....

Sorry to hijack this a little bit:
(I can bring this to another thread if you like, but I'll try my luck here anyhow)
In the case Carl_A_Norris mentioned; would a woman who's in the coma be able to 'make' (I'm not sure of the wording here, maybe 'concieve' would be better) a healthy baby?

I can't find a cite, but there was a case about 6 or 7 years ago where some guy impregnated a brain-dead comatose woman, and the women's parents didn't abort it because of their religious beliefs.
I think the baby turned out physically healthy, but what happens when he finds out the truth about his conception?

Found it. I was wrong about her being brain dead, though.

If she's receiving proper nutrition and is otherwise healthy, then there's no reason she wouldn't have a normal child.
