AOTC DVD and Natalie Portman's nips. [Archive]

I first saw Attack of the Clones in the theater and pretty much though it was a dud - although still an improvent to Episode 1. One of the highlights for me, sadly (I wish I could have had more positve things to say about the movie itself), was Natalie Portman in that tight white outfit. I remember quite distictly a few shots in the movie where her nipples were showing through the outfit.

I recently watched the DVD and was disappointed to discover that her nips seem to be constantly strategically covered by a seam in her outfit.

Did anyone else notice this discrepancy? Did they digitally remove her perkiness, or was I just hallucinating in the theater? Or, better yet, was I just not paying close enough attention to the DVD?

Oh, no. You weren't hallucinating. They were there in all their royal nippiness on the big screen, proving that Tatooine is much colder than we were led to believe. I've not watched my DVD of it yet though. I'll be mad if they were digitally erased. Lucas has already screwed up the saga; he could at least leave in the two best parts of the movie.

I saw them in the theater, too. Well, on the screen in the theater. Be better if I'd seen them in the theater, like if she were sitting next to me.

When I finally got around to seeing AOTC on the big screen, someone, knowing my crush on Natalie, told me to keep an eye out for her nipples. By the time the scenes in question came around, I was so incredibly, mind-numbingly bored by the film itself, that all I was pretty much doing was keeping a close eye for a glimpse. Not that I needed an excuse; as I said, I've got a thing for her anyway. But, my point is, I was actively watching for it. And I didn't see so much as a hint of a one. It was a sad day, indeed.

I should note, that I saw it digitally projected. Perhaps he covered it up on the digital versions (which would have been easier than doing it on the film print versions, so this is a possibility)? Those of you who saw it, do you happen to remember if you saw a digital print or a film print?

I don't know about the DVD, but they made a great decision when the action figure was designed to acurately match the finer points of the escape scene.

Yep, I remember them on the big screen -- most prominently in the ship on Tattooine, before they went to Geonossis to rescue Obi-Wan. I picked up the DVD, but haven't re-watched it all yet, so I wasn't aware of the supposed altering of that scene. I'll be sad if it's true.... (But still really like that white just-became-a-cutoff outfit in the arena!)

I watched the movie on HBO. They were definately there on the ship. The threads on her outfit stopped just north and west on the left and just north and east on the right one so they acted more like cross-hairs than obstructions.

No, I remember in the theater thinking, "wow, that's clever. The seams on her shirt end right where her nipples would be. So they give her the illusion of having nipples without actually having her nipples show."

Faulty memory, and an oversexed action figure, lead people to believe otherwise, but it was always this way. They made it look like her nipples poking through, as part of the costume. Now that you have the DVD and can lean in closer to the screen, you know the sad truth.

I just realized that I wasted my lucky 1200th post talking about Natalie Portman's nipples. Not that I have anything against her, but my college roommate knew her in high school, and he hated her. He's the only person I know who has a personal grudge against Luke Skywalker's mom.

An hour and a half in. Here we go:

-They are definately there at the lake scene ("You're everything soft and smooth.")
-Anakin seems a bit cold during his nightmare.
-Padme's PJs in the scene after the nightmare. It might just be the fabric though.
-They make an appearance through her clothes in the scene before Anakin goes out to find his mother.

The rest of the movie is her in the jumpsuit. I have to disagree with you, Daniel. I think that she just has relatively short nipples, but there is definately a point not created by the fabric. Though I was wrong. The seems come from the south, not the north.

Now to the real problem, the lack of ass shots. Perhaps Lucas will watch Charlie's Angels 2 and get inspired.

Hooray down reducing a beautiful woman like Ms. Portman down to two points!

I saw ATOC on IMAX...twice. I definitely remember the nips. Like the OP, it was the only thing worth watching for after a while. They looked extra nice on that big giant screen.

In fact, my eyes damn near exploded out of my head. I couldn't believe that in a George Lucas movie they'd have nips showing! It's was as stunning as the moment I watched ST IV: The Giant Turd With One Testicle Comes to Earth, and when the cetelogist (or however you spell the title of the whale woman who later went on to star with the V'Ger dude in 7th Heaven) is trying to find Kirk in Golden Gate Park and her nips are standing tall.

actually, I was rather annoyed at Gillian for that sweater and no bra shot, I mean she was going to work as a tour guide, right? She was expecting to lead around middle school kids and she decided to go all nipply? I mean, yeay for us, but not the most realistic of garment choices IRL, right?

When I saw it in the theater, I noticed the nipples, too... Or at least, thought I did. But then I realized that it was just the jumpsuit. Very convincing, even after you realize, but not nipples. And if you look at the way the jumpsuit was sewn, you'll see that most of the seams would have been three thicknesses of fabric, but at those corners, there were four (or maybe five, depending on whether they folded or cut). Which is why it looks like there's an extra bump there in addition to the seam thickness.

All of you guys who couldn't tell the difference obviously weren't staring closely enough at Miss Portman's breasts.
