This sitehere (http://www.amazingdiscoveries.org/amazingdiet/refined_grains.htm) says all sorts of bad things about the refining process, such as bleach and nutritional extraction. What is the Dope on what most Americans eat: white bread, rice, pasta, bagels, ect.? Is this site biased or should we not be eating these things? I'm sure it's not as bad as this site makes it out to be, but just how bad is it?

***Specifically, what is so bad about the bleach used?

I am not so worried about the *lack* of vitamins or nutrition, because that is pretty much self-evident. But what about *presence* of harmful substances such as bleach, ect?

You mean harmful substances such as salt, sugar, skim milk, and yeast?
The average person eats about 100 pounds or so of commercial bread each year. Besides eating the refined flour, the average person also eats these toxic items in the grain products: 2 pounds of salt, 3 pounds of sugar, 2 pounds of skim milk powder, 2 pounds of yeast, 1 pound of “enzyme-activator,” 1/2 pound of sulfate, chloride and bromate chemicals, and 1/4 pound of other food additives. When all of these chemicals and nonfoods are eaten together, a multi-toxic effect occurs that has never been thoroughly studied by scientists. Surely, the cumulative effect of daily intake of such chemicals present in baker’s bread must be definitely disease-inducing over time.
It's got chloride in it. It must be bad for you!

What is the Dope on what most Americans eat: white bread, rice, pasta, bagels, ect.?

That’s a complex question.
At the moment real nutritionists recommend that the bulk of your diet should be composed of those very things. (http://www.nal.usda.gov:8001/py/pmap.htm). That should tell you they aren’t bad.

Is this site biased or should we not be eating these things?

The site isn’t biased, but it is clearly written by people who are clearly not playing with a full deck. The home page lists a range of exiting topics, including “The Battle of the Giants”, “The Anti Christ Revealed”, “Post Flood Speciation and Redistribution” and "The Mystic Realms of Death".

Basically the site is full of fundamentalist garbage. If you choose to believe it on this point you are free to do so, but don’t expect it to be based in any sort of science.

Specifically, what is so bad about the bleach used?

Nothing much. The bleach used in flour production is just chlorine gas. It only exists as trace amounts of chlorides in the flour. This is no real concern since your stomach is full of chlorides anyway.
