I don't know the original of this phrase
Do you?

What is the original of "roses are red, violets are blue"?

IIRC, it's from an old song. The only part I recall is:
Down in the valley,
Valley so low.
Hang your head over,
Hear the wind blow.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
Angels in Heaven
Know I love you.

There must be more verses to it.

That's: "Roses love sunshine, violets love dew", Monty

But then there's about a million different lyrics, attributed to thousands of authors, or mainly to "unknown"

An early instance by Edmund Spenser in The Faerie Queene (1590): Roses red and violets blew,
And all the sweetest flowers, that in the forest grew.

MajorK You should have said:

"Roses are red
Violets are blue"
I dont know the rest,
How about you?
