Oreos, which get softer.

Peeps, which lose their mushy, slightly nauseating texture.

Birthday cake. Which gets dry. All the better to soak up the ice cream with...

Circus Peanuts of course I'm playing pretty fast and loose with the definition of food

I was going to say Circus Peanuts, too.

Pop Tarts. They get just the right crunch after about three hours opened. Of course this is only if you are eating them uncooked.

My nomination is any variety of fine cheese, of course.

Store bought oat meal cookies, they could break your teeth straight out of the pack, but let ‘em sit out for a few days and boy oh boy, pure chewy delight!

The solidified seamen of the Devil himself.

Exactly.

cheesies. I got to agree with Doctor J

Me, the Doctor and stale cheesies watching the game :D

You want a warm beer with those stale cheesies?

I dig stale gingersnaps.

I don't know if this is considered stale but I like to let my pop sit in the fridge open to make it go flat. Ice cold flat pop is the drink of the gods.

Definitely. And what's weird is that I had a dream about circus peanuts last night. I was looking and looking for them, but I couldn't find them in the original orange color. I saw every other color/flavor, but not the orange--and I don't even think they make other colors. /hijack

Erm, cheese and Yoghurt?

Erm, stale by definition. ;)

Haven't yet tried this technique (gotta remember to buy some of those oatmeal cookies next time I go to the store!), but I was told if you like your cookies soft you can put them in a baggie with a slice of white bread for a few hours and they'll come out chewey...

gorp/trail mix. The peanuts are too damned crunchy when fresh.

Most people hate them, a few like them, but only a few special elite group appreciate the unique texture of a stale PEEPS!

Day old chili beats fresh chili everytime.

A tuna sandwich made the night before and kept in the refrigerator beats one made fresh that day.

Leftover turkey is better than what you get for Thanksgiving- ditto the gravy that's thickened up in the refrigerator.

Homemade bread is better about 12 hours after being done- has a nice chewy texture but not too hard.

Mmmmmm, that reminds me, I put away a pack of Peeps that might be *ripe* by now!

And Circus Peanuts are only good when they go 'snap' when you break them!

Mm, mm! Wonder what else is in the back of the pantry? Hee hee hee!

What?? No one's mentioned just plain ole' marshmellows yet? Stale marshmellows are, truly, the foot of gods. Open a bag, make a couple smores (note: it doesn't work so well in microwaves), leave the bag (closed, because of ants) for about a month....mmmmmm....chewy goodness...

Bread used for French toast. That's why the French call it "pain perdu", or 'lost bread'.

All of these posts and no one has mentioned Red Vines yet?

For those of you on the east coast, Red Vines are Twizzlers that taste good.

Amp, I agree with you wholeheartedly, especially on rootbeer and Sprite.
Isabelle, spot on with the pizza remark.

I'll add that microwave popcorn is so much better if you make it at night and then eat it for breakfast the next morning.

Oh, come on you guys! Circus Peanuts? Those things weren't edible the day they came out of the factory and they only get worse over time! I shudder when I think of how my Grandpa used to get me to eat those things.

Anyway, I think Macaroni and Cheese tastes good after it's been in the fridge a while and then re-heated.

Licorice! The staler it gets the better it tastes. And lasts a hell of a lot longer too. I've eaten "ropes" that were over 4 years old and thought I'd found Nirvana.

Lasagna, but I prefer the term "aged" rather than stale.

M&Ms. They're less crunchy, more melt-in-your-mouth after spending the night in a bowl on the coffee table.

I was going to say Oreos, gingersnaps and Peeps! Darn!

Indygrrl, circus peanuts will also give you weird dreams if you eat them at night, IME. I ate a few of them a night a few months ago, and I had crazy dreams until I stopped eating them. And our Wal*Mart sells them in pink, white and the old standy, Caution Orange.

Stale Peeps are the thing I've missed most in my 4+ years of Vegetarianism. Boohoo me so sad every Easter....

I check the package in stores every year to see if they've changed the recipe to get rid of the gelatin, like so many european candies have done (yay Storck!), due, I assume to the whole Mad-Cow and Hoof'n'Mouth disease things a couple of years back. Of course, changing the formula that drastically could eliminate the heavenliness altogether, but I'd bet that using a different gelling agent would make 'em stale quicker.

Here's a tip for you lucky so'n'so's who still get to eat them- Microwave them fresh for a few seconds, then let them cool- instant staleness!

Movie popcorn. It always tastes better a few hours later, or the next day.

My sister's another fan of stale Oreos - bleah. I'll vote for cheese; especially bleus.
