View Full Version : My kid got mugged!!

My darling 17 year old is an apprentice baker for a 'chain' of Melbourne bakeries. He's in his second year, and has been such a model employee that they have entrusted the keys to the store to his care, giving him the task of opening up at 3.00 am. (Shame that he's not generally a model-son, but anyway..........)
This morning, he got mugged. On his way down a laneway to the back of the store, a 25 year old fucking punk decided to bash my kid around the head, demanding wallet and mobile phone. Kid did not have his mobile phone with him, and seeing it is two days after pay day, did not have any money in his wallet either. ;)
So shithead-fucking-punk ripped off my kid's jacket and his cap, then belted off into the darkness like a true coward. Thankfully, kid has not sustained any marked injuries, unlike the ones that scumbag-shithead-fucking-punk-bastard is going to cop when the wallopers get hold of him.
Y'see Shithead, news on the streets of Collingwood and Fitzroy gets around pretty quickly. WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE now, and we know that you have just been released from detention, and that the coppers would like nothing better than to have a bit of a chat with you. ESPECIALLY for giving a 17 year old kid on his way to work a scaringly hard time.
Further, you mess with one of my kids again, and I will PERSONALLY find out your name and address and come pay you a visit with a fucking crowbar.
Arsehole.

I'm glad he's OK but that's an awful thing to have happen. Arsehole indeed and I hope the cops catch him and he's quickly sorted.
But mostly I'm glad your boy's not hurt.

Can't wait for the happy ending on this one. List off the various bloodyings that thief bastard gets when they occur for us, will ya?

I'm glad your son is okay.
Are there any precautions he can take like pepper spray, a baseball bat or a taser?

Thanks Prim.....he was shaken up pretty badly, but no blood or cuts. He'll probably develop a couple of bruises by tomorrow though.
I think the thing that pisses me off the most is that I have always thought of my home town, Melbourne, as a pretty safe place. Sure, if you go out and get shit-faced with your mates, and take on an equally shit-faced group outside the pub, then violence is going to happen. 'Muggings' and bag-snatchings and their ilk are still pretty rare events down here (from what we have been led to believe anyway). Provided you stay away from outlaw bikie gangs and/or major drug/crime syndicates, the chances are that you will never have a finger laid upon you.
Except for hero-fucking-muggers who think that terrorising a 17 year old for his jacket and baseball cap is the pinnacle of criminal achievement.
Loser.

Unfortunately, all of the above are illegal here, and I don't think I'd want him 'fighting' back anyway. That is the quickest way to get a knife drawn on you: his response last night was the best in my opinion, 'cos at least he is safe and sound now!
The local coppers know my son (they've had a habit of pulling him over on his way to work, questioning him for being out so late/early in the morning for nearly two years now). After we made the report today, they intimated that they will be giving him a 'sort-of' escort to work as they do their patrols for the forseeable future. Hopefully that will keep him even safer and sounder.

The point of the pepper spray, etc, is to stun them so you can run and get a head start.
I'm glad the police are responsive there and are looking out for your son.

That's so horrible, I'm so sorry. My husband was about that age when a couple of guys mugged him for his (non-existent) wallet and beat him in the face.
Hope they catch them soon.

First off, sorry to hear about your misfortune - that's a shitty thing to happen and I wholeheartedly hope that the stupid ignorant fucking weasel gets what's coming to him.
That said, one thing you mentioned puzzles me a little:
"...and I don't think I'd want him 'fighting' back anyway. That is the quickest way to get a knife drawn on you"
Now I respect the sentiment, and in lots of instances just giving the aggressor what they want is the most sensible course of action, but what if they just want to hurt you? What if a knife, or worse, is already in play? What if the shit has well and truely hit the fan?
In such cases surely 'fighting back' is the only option left if the victim is to stand any chance of walking away? Some bastards just want to hurt someone..that mugger could have been one of those people, and it could have been your son in hospital today with a face so beaten you don't recognise it.
It wasn't, he was lucky (in a twisted sense anyway).
Self Defence is never a bad thing, especially if the first lesson is 'give them what they want and get the fuck outta there'. If what they want is to hurt you then you move onto fighting back. Have you thought about the possible psychological consequences on your son? Fear? Paranoia? Maybe a bit of knowledge about how to look after himself (legally) would help him move past this event even if he never has to use it.
Again, my sympathies for having had to have had this worthless pile of vomit involved in your life and best wishes to your son.

Bugger. Glad he's ok.
Good thing you've got the Victoria Police. Those blokes don't muck about.

God, what a brave fuckwad to attack a seventeen-year old. I hope the cops do give him something to think about! Tell us every detail.

I'd have to agree to the part about not fighting back.
A coworker of mine has a teenaged daughter (18 or 19) who was riding her bike home from work last week about 1am. A guy stopped her and demanded the bike, she laughed at him and turned to ride off. He stabbed her in the kidney. She is still in the hospital and just got upgraded from serious condition.
All that I can think is that if she had given him her bike she still might be ok, mad but ok.

STABBED HER OVER A FUCKING BIKE? Have they caught this twisted piece of crap yet? I'm glad your child's condition is improving, 13thUnicorn. How insane.

I have heard that (meaning, this may not be fact *wink, wink*) when cops catch scumbags like the ones mentioned in this thread, they usually let them spend the first couple nights in the "wacko" block of the jail. That way these not so nice people get to meet some very not nice people and decide what they want to do with the rest of their lives. And of course, these introductions are usually intimate and not so gentle. So folks, there is some justice after all.

Glad to hear your boyo's all right, kambuckta! Let's all hope the coppers find this perp and provide him with free lodging at the graybar hotel. One can only wish that such a stupid jerk picks on someone more able to defend themselves. A rock solid ass-whupping might make this twit see the error of his ways.

Justice or pointless barbarism that makes the authorities no better than him? Maybe the attacks will humiliate him so much that, by the time he gets out of jail, he'll want to attack another defenseless kid to regain his misguided sense of manhood.
My sympathies do go out to the OP, and I hope they catch this crazy bastard ASAP, but an eye for an eye is an outdated and brutal philosophy.

If by "works," you mean "satisfies the public's bloodlust, but doesn't produce any real results," then yeah, I guess you're right. Hell, if everyone is so gung-ho about it, why hide it behind closed doors? Let's have a state-appointed inmate rapist! Who will do it, though? Should it be restricted to the current roll of sexually predatory inmates, or should we invite members of the public to partake in the raping?

Wow, pretty nice leap from the OP to the weekly "jailrape = justice?" thread.

Carrying around a baseball bat without some evidence that you are in fact about to go play a game/attend training etc will get you a visit to the local cop-shop, and probably a formal caution (if you have no prior offences) or charges of carrying a weapon (especially if your past form indicates a propensity for violence). Carrying one for self-defence is NOT allowed.
Latest: kid attended the police-station yesterday (with his store manager) to file charges. While our initial indication was that the coppers had a good idea who the culprit was, they unfortunately gave no indication of the same during the interview. That's not unusual, and I am still confident that they will pay our hero a visit for a bit of a chat.
Kid is recovered and back to normal (well, whatever 'normal' is for a snotty 17 year old anyway!! :D )
