Don't repost copyrighted materials. And don't be a jerk.

I'm genuinely sorry that you don't like it here. This is a board dedicated to fighting ignorance, something I have been a supporter of all my life. People here like being able to ask a question without the response being drowned in meaningless flame wars. (The flame wars here are MEANINGFUL.)

If you really wanted someone to read materials from another source, all you have to do is provide a link. If you post the entire article instead without attribution, it leaves our host open to lawsuit by the copyright holder, and it makes YOU look like you intended to plagiarize the material.

Drawing attention to yourself with an "I'm taking my ball and going home" post will draw the wrong attention. What do you hope to accomplish? Do you think there will be a mass changing of minds, saying "She was right, let's change things to accomodate her?"

Sorry you feel that way, Ladyrose. Maybe you just needed some time to kind of soak up the board atmosphere. People here are among the smartest, funniest, and kindest that I've seen on the Internet.

LadyRose, I wouldn't take all these "well wishers" in this thread personally. It's just that we've seen dozens upon dozens of newcomers here make these grand announcements that they're leaving after only a handful of posts.

I think you'd be wise indeed to stick around here for a little while longer, if for no other reason than to soak up some of the really great information that gets exchanged. (Check out General Questions, Great Debates, and even Cafe Society).

I seem to recall most of your posts were made in the MPSIMS forum, and had the posts you made there been original material, they would've fit right in. I think people just took issue with the lack of originality with which you made your posts (not to mention the illegality of them).

I noticed in one thread you posted about your grandkids. That means you've got a potential source of good thread material right there. I don't think people here genuinely dislike you, simply because we barely know you. The posts you've made have, for the most part, been somebody else's words.

Like Scarlett67 said, instead of getting defensive when a mod or someone else corrects you, learn from it.

I made a comment in another recent "goodbye" thread just a few days ago saying that I found some of the comments kinda harsh. While I made that one more as a member than as a moderator, I'm gonna comment in this one as a moderator.

Some of y'all are making comments that aren't really appropriate outside the pit. And you know that. Please, while these goodbye threads remain in MPSIMS, try a little harder to keep the tone of your comments to what's permitted in this forum. Anyway, since this thread is getting ugly, I'm moving it to the Pit. And in fact, I think I'm gonna start a discussion among the staff about simply moving all goodbye threads to the Pit as soon as they appear. I really don't think all goodbye threads belong in the pit, but since this one started out as a criticism of the boards to begin with, I think it's the appropriate place for it.

If you don't like it here, and can't follow the rules, then yeah, this isn't the place for you. And there's really no need to announce it, especially in this particular case when all you're doing is whining about how you don't like it here. It ain't all that fucking hard to follow the rules here - thousands do it with pretty much no problem - and when most people get their hand slapped by a mod (and in this case it was a very gentle slap), most reply by saying something like "Sorry, it won't happen again."

A billboard has a sole purpose of reaching as MANY people as humanly possible to spread the word about what they are selling.

Copying a billboard and putting it on a t-shirt and SELLING it would be a different story.

But I also remmeber their being a prohibition against advertising on the SDMB... And copying a billboard and reposting it here would be advertising.

You did post copyrighted material and even if you weren't trying to claim it as your own you didn't give credit to the author. That is a big deal, as I'm sure you'd agree if somebody did it with a document you'd authored.

Ladyrose, as nicely as I can say it, you're absolutely right that this isn't the place for you. The mods are fair and there's a lot of stuff that one can say here that they can't say elsewhere without getting deleted. Unfortunately, copyrighted material doesn't belong on that list. And if for some reason, you can't understand the difference between something that's copyrighted and something that's public domain, then it probably *is* best that you seek another board to hang out on.
