View Full Version : Dublin Dopers, is it about that time?

Was wondering if there are any DublinDopes coming up, will be over for a week at the start of Sept, and wouldn't mind going out for a bite/jar. Are there any meet-ups planned?

Have to book my tickets (and renew my passport) but the dates I am looking at are 7-13 Sep. I have no specific plans made, so I am at yer mercy.

I'll be back from Glasgow on the 7th, so I'll be able to make it :)

Can't make it on the 12th as I'll be in Galway for a wedding. But any of the other dates would be good!
micilin
08-19-2003, 08:07 AM
No 11th, 12th, 13th or 14th for me. I've got to go to two weddings -one of which is in Italy.
Beat THAT hibernicus! :)
curly chick
08-19-2003, 08:34 AM
When you have all finished flouting your matrimonials - do we have a date?
A venue?
Anything at all, at all, at all?
curly chick
08-19-2003, 08:44 AM
Actually - there is nothing to stop me suggesting one is there?
Based on what I see here, no one has yet kyboshed the dates between the 7th and the 10th.
Any of these are fine for me.
Eeny meeny miney mo - Tuesday 9th.
Will that do?
utkik
08-19-2003, 08:49 AM
Tuesday 9th sounds good to me!
But now, for the real clincher, where do we go???
I've no real preference, as long as beer is present in abundance...

08-19-2003, 08:51 AM
I don't think we've been to that bar beside Doyles nearly enough. :)
Iteki
08-19-2003, 09:13 AM
9th sounds great, I don't know where is nice these days, but at my age I prioritise comfy seats and not too loud. :P
yojimbo
08-28-2003, 09:03 AM
I was in a new place around the corner from Hogans last week. The MarketPlace or some such name. Barn of a place(converted Market) with lots of space and comfy seats. However the 9th is a Tues so anywhere is good re: seats.
Long Hall
Grogans
Mulligans
Corner Stone
Conways(Across from the Rotunda)
SoSueMe
The Bank (New on Dame St. I want to see the greeter I've heard so much about ;) )
and many more.
Now come on somebody make a decision as I find it impossible :)
jjimm
08-28-2003, 09:12 AM
Ooooh, the greeter in The Bank on Dame street.
Good God, what a RACK!!!!! :D :D :D
Might distract us gentlemen from the job in hand, though.
curly chick
08-28-2003, 09:21 AM
Well, far be it from me to deny the boys a chance to go and ogle at this.....er.... well racked lady.
Shall we say there, then?

Are we seriously suggesting a fucking Tuesday. What's wrong with 11 or 12 September? I like hib and I don't completely detest micilin (;)) but I'd rather be shit-faced without them than going home at 10 pm.
Yes, I know, I'm a veritable Kofi Annan when it comes to diplomacy.

curly chick
08-28-2003, 09:30 AM
A fucking tuesday, eh, manwithaplan.
Interesting concept, is that what you had in mind, Iteki?
If so, we might need a few more girlies, as the greeter in The Bank might get a bit tired.
(I'lll be holding the coats)

I've been to about three - there aren't that many of us but we can put the drink away.
I think the only Dub Dopers I haven't met are you, Irishgirl, glass onion and mogiaw (where's mogiaw these days?). Oh, and I know UDS is Irish, but I don't know if s/he is in Dublin.

Good to see we're back to the stage of having no idea what we're doing. Another good day's work on my part.
To completely break with character and be constructive, may I suggest 12/9 in the shithole beside Doyle's. Apart from curly chick and possibly jjimm, none of us are posh enough for The Bank on a Friday night and it's only up the road if anyone wants to pop up for a quick sconce at Dame Street's premier tourist attractions.

Grr... was waiting for my tax-return to pay for my flight.
By the time tax-return came, flight was about 1200 euros....
mrsIteki then decided to spend both our tax-returns on driving lessons.
Mammy however said she would buy me a ticket (but this is the last time, you hear?!) god love her.
So yet again, I have whored myself to Ryanair. Pray for me.
Getting in evening the 6th, and flying out again on the 12th.
What's the plan?

Hi Dublin Friends,
I always reply these DublinDope threads...but never seem to make it. I will deffo try this time...and any nite seems fine to me...as I don't start work til 10.30 any morn...apart from saturday morn, when I don't go in at all...so fri nite would be more than perfect.
I look forward to meetin up with you guys eventually...maybe this time will be the time.

Ok, this is it. You all do this on purpose.
I will be up in Co. Derry for the week of the 8th but will be in Dublin the 15, 16 and 17th of September, possibly without husband and child. I'm hankering for a downtown hotel instead of clear out in Lusk, so let the party start.
On the other hand, if my maternal instinct wins, I shall be staying at my in-laws in Dublin 6W without the benefit of babysitting, since they'll be minding her all day.
So, um...that's it.
utkik
08-29-2003, 03:01 AM
okay, right, erm .... okay, so let me get this straight ..... the Dublin Dope is gonna beeee .......... aw crap, no, I lost it again.
coffee machine broken in work this morning, so utkik isnt firing on all cylinders.
And Iteki, "what it seems to be" really depends on what it is! I used to know what it was, but then they changed it. And now what I think is it isnt it, and what it is seems strange and frightening to me......

ooops ... hit post before I meant to there. I'm really out of it today.
Anyways Iteki youre probably right on the nickname guess, seeing as where youre from and all. I got it from 'The Last Grain Race', a book on the final clipper ship grain run from Belfast to Australia and back on the Moshulu.

08-29-2003, 04:25 AM
So 12/9 is out due to Iteki's mother's refusal to spring for a more expensive weekend flight, the inconsiderate witch;). We'll assume that 6/9 is out as well, given the possibility of a late flight and the probable need of Iteki to keep his Ma sweet by at least saying hello to her before going on the piss.
11/9 anyone?

MWAP a hug would be good but a ....... ah fuck it I'm too hung over to make jokes.

Perhaps 50 Cent can provide the humour that you are lacking here, yojimbo. I'm picturing mwap saying this to you:You can find me in the club,
bottle full of bub,
look mami i got the Ex if you into takin' drugs,
im in there having sex i ain't into makin' love,
so come give me a hug, if you're into gettin' roughI
utkik
08-29-2003, 06:03 AM
mmmmm ...... post beer taco & chips
I'm gonna be in town tonight and I'll actually be in Doyles, so I pop in to the shithole, to see where the hell it is (and memorise the route Abrakebabra for the bleary post pub feast)
In the meantime yojimbo dont think about runny eggs, rusty arse water, or eating the contents of an ashtray. They always make me feel worse when I'm in ribbons the next day....

The pub next to Doyle's is actually part of Doyle's - Doyle's has expanded like the fungal Mercantile to absorb everything around it. I can't remember the feckin name of it though. It's on the side opposite Trinity.

You will know it by the cheery greeting given to you by the delightful barmaid who will, with every word and gesture welcome you into the bosom of her hostelry and cater to your every imbiming whim with a smile and all the inviting, homely warmth you usually only find in the derelict, rat infested, typhoid ridden crack houses of down town Basra.
She is a charming lady.

Myself and micilin had a couple of late in O'Donoghue's on Fri. night. Said bar woman was there and she was an absolute gem. Seriously she said Hi when we came in. Joked and stuff and was generally a nice human being (nice ass aswell ;) ) She was obviously off her game when we were there before as she was grand the Fri night.
There was also a very very drunk Fin there who could barely speak English who we had mighty craic with indeed. Oh well see y'all on the 11th.

Iteki, it ain't Dame St, it is the third part of the holy triangle of Westmoreland St, and D'Olier St.
Pearse St? College Green?
Doyle's is one of two or three pubs all next door to each other, which are really all the same pub. If you are stood looking at the doors, with your back to TCD, then it is the leftest one, a tiny little place with only about six tables in it and the bar along the back wall.
I can be there by 9pm.
Is it term time again? Are the students back? If so, you will know us because we will be the oldest people in the place.
The dead giveaway, though is that jjimm may very well have his wedding ring up his nose.
