If there was ever a time for little air quotes, it's around "push boundaries." Maybe they are dating, who knows?
It's more like jumping on the gay bandwagon now. I'm considering a houseboy. My wife says so long as he can clean up. ;)

Typically, when my wife watches those award shows, I am in the office on the computer. She called me in to replay that particular scene for me. I am now rethinking my negative opinion of such shows. How hot was that?
Did you see the look on Britney's ex-boy friend's face? It was priceless.

Jumping the gay bandwagon? I'm not sure if it's that or if it's that they know (as all women do) what kind of things we guys watch on Cinemax after 10:00 p.m. It's too bad that the hideous Aguilera-creature was hanging around.

Are these woman bisexual? Are they choosing to be gay? or is it predetermined in their genes that they partcicipate in mutual masturabation in front of 70 million households? They need to grow up, sexy and sophisticated they ain't! Is Britney confused over Madonna's real intentions? Will Christina turn jealous? or was this staged just for the studio execs to get a hard on and be more easily greased and relieved of millions in royalties for the "artists"?

If I were an oft-criticized over-exposed nasal-voiced pop star with aspirations of longevity, I would wish to be associated with or mentored by Madonna.
So yes, if I were Brittany, I should want to kiss Madonna. It would be an honor, an
homage, and confirmation- much like the hope that kissing blarney stone would bestow eloquence upon the kisser.
It would also make the front page, the lead story, and a shared fantasy that would span generations of boys to men.
And yeah, it was really hot, even if they were just playin'

My first reaction, in light of the fact that the whole "Lisa Marie Presley kisses Glow-in-the-Dark Femme from Outer Space--er, I mean, Michael Jackson" scene has been played repeatedly by the networks as an example of the freaky stuff that goes down at the VMAs, is that this stunt was an attempt to parody and/or top the Lisa Marie/Michael Jackson scene.

Madonna has been more or less openly bi for quite some time (take it away, kung fu lola!). She somehow manages to come out at every single MTV music video awards or almost every. (Remember 1993? Bi, bi, baby, bi bi! with three mostly naked women chair dancing? Okay, I don't remember it because I was 12 and Canadian and we had no cable, but I'm reliably informed of it by Hamish.)

Anyone who thinks this was anything other than an attempt to increase publicity for two "musicians" is completely deluded. It is a shame that a sexual orientation seems to be like a mink coat that you can pretend to try on in a bid to get people to pay attention to you.

I've only seen the pictures on Yahoo!; couldn't be bothered wasting my time with the VMAs when I had paint I could be watching dry. What surprised me wasn't Brittany and Madonna, or Crustina and Madonna, (or even Brittany and Crustina, had that happened), but that the one close up shows Madonna all very prim (by the standards of stunt lesbian kissing) and Brittany pulling her tongue back after apparently shoving it down Madonna's throat.
"Hot, or not?" I dunno. Brittany is pointless, being nothing more right now that a younger version of Anna Nicole Smith or Kato Kaelin. What has she done in the past 2-3 years besides be constantly photographed by London's The Sun in various states of undress (oooh, ahhh)? Madonna is the perfect representation of MTV: 20 years ago, both were edgy and irreverent. Now both are aging, sagging wannabes of themselves, doing anything to extend their "15 minutes" just one tick more, and only proving that, in today's pop culture, they are irrelevant. MTV and Madonna have both "jumped the shark".

I felt honestly cheated! I hear all the hushed whispers... the rumour, the innuendo... the gasps and the giggles... I say to myself " 'Beast them girls musta got DOWN! they musta really tried to one-up TaTu or something..." and what'd I get?!?! the Madonna/Britney kiss was good... but I am surprised the still photos came out at all, cuz it was over so quick... then they cut instantly to a shot of Timberlake (that shot was longer than the kiss btw) and the television audience missed Madonna/Christina pretty much altogether...
it was OK.... but not worth the hype... and not worth a download. the still is much better.

Hmmm... A "gay bandwagon." Funny how phrases can just pop out when I type fast. Wonder what those Queer Eye dudes could do with a bandwagon? Would it be a performance bandwagon? Would it be frilly and femme? I think the former, but you never know. Then you could have some "bear" influence. Just read about that.
I agree with all those people who said it's a publicity stunt if that wasn't clear through all my remarks. OTOH, if Madonna and Britney "not a virgin" Spears show up arm-in-arm for the next few weeks, then it's a really good publicity stunt.

I just think that it's funny that this whole scene came up during a parody/retread of Madonna's actually shocking "Like a Virgin" performance from the first VMAs back in 1984. That really was out there, with her rolling around on the floor, underwear exposed, humping the stage, moaning lasciviously. It was outer limits, and people talked about it for weeks and there was a great deal of discussion about how such things were really inappropriate for television, even cable television. That talk was coming from every corner, people from the "mainstream" entertainment media (please remember that MTV wasn't mainstream until around 1986 at the very earliest) were decrying the envelope-pushing engendered in Madonna's performance and it was one of the facets of her history which put her on the hit list for the "this has gone too far" crowd.
Cut to 2003. A well established international superstar takes on a sapphic scene with not one but two young up and comers of the same gender, including dancing, frotting, fondling and the two kisses, at least one of which was visually tongue-inclusive. The only people who have anything to say by way of complaint about the scene are the die-hard anti-gay crowd or the die-hard uberconservative modesty-decency set. (The former would certainly speak up, the latter just hate on Madonna, Britney and Christina on general principles, no matter what they're doing.) For most folks, the only reason why this is discussion worthy is because of the whole "two women kissing is hot" angle or the "oh they're boring, this faux-provocative bit is a yawn" angle, not because of a sense of (inter)national outrage.
Say what you will, times have changed.
They haven't changed enough, though, IMO, because had one of the Fab 5 from Queer Eye leaned over and smooched Jimmy Fallon with an open mouth and obvious tongue, the hue and cry today would be so great that you'd think that someone had blown up the Statue of Liberty or something. No question.

Nope, because she's an ARTIST with STAYING POWER. She's worth more than 15 minutes. It's been 20 years now for her, an undeniable feat, especially in these "disposable" times. Suck it up.
And yes, matt's got it right. Madonna enjoys making love with both men and women (and believe me, being married hasn't stopped her).
I think everyone is overthinking this. It was just supposed to be hot and all in fun. Nothing more.
I think everyone is overthinking this. It was just supposed to be hot and all in fun.
I underthought it, and my underthought was "Girls, you're trying too hard." And then I thought, "I wonder if there's any ice cream left?"
So no, I didn't think it was hot, but then girl/girl does nothing for me. I didn't think it was edgy -- Girls Kiss! Also, Fire Hot, Water Wet! But then my idea of sexy tends to be a bit more subtle than two (mostly) straight women putting their tongues down each others' throats at an awards show.
