View Full Version : Quickie: Guinness Book of World Record question

I did a quick internet search and didn't hit on anything. As I am at school, I thought I would ask the knowledgeable folks here in Dopeland.
Who currently holds the record for most children born, how many are alive, and how old is she?
Thank you oh so much!

http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GEN-MEDIEVAL/1997-05/0864368963 From "The Guinness Book of World Records" --- 1997 Edition --- [40th Anniversary] p.8 ISBN 0-9652383-0-X:
"In a total of 27 confinements, the wife of Feodor Vassilyev, a peasant from Shuya (near Moscow), Russia, gave birth to a total of 69 children: comprising 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. The case was reported to Moscow by the Monastery of Nikolskiy, on February 27th, 1782. Only two of the children born to Mme. Vassilyev in the period 1725-1765 died in infancy." Therefore, to answer your last couple of questions, I'm reasonably sure none of them are still alive over 200 years later.

Wow. Now I know why oral-to-oral known as "69". It's in honor of the Vassilyev's who, had they known about it, wouldn't have had 69 kids...

Another site with interesting stats on births: http://www.sexualrecords.com/WSRprev.html
It confirms the above with a more current issue of the Guinness Book (2001), as well as mentioning a "modern world" woman who is not only still living, herself, but certainly so would be her offspring... The modern world record for giving birth is held by Leontina Albina from San Antonio, Chile. Now in her mid-sixties, Leontina claims to be the mother of 64 children, of which only 55 of them are documented, birth certificates apparently being something of a less-than-serious concern for destitute Chileans. She is listed in the 1999 Guinness book but mysteriously dropped from later editions. The man with the most offspring is listed as Mulai Ismail (1646-1727), The last Sharifian Emperor of Morocco, who is said to have had at least 342 daughters and 700 sons!
