I know, the film has been out for ages, but I finally got around to renting the DVD.

It was better than I expected...sort of a Catcher In The Rye type of story with a rich kid in odd situations. Worth taking a look.

Just thought I would mention it in case you go to the video store and can't find anything else to rent.

I agree; I rented it with the attitude of "oh boy, here's yet another indie flick about a precocious youngster expressing his alienation from the world," but found myself enjoying it far more than I expected to. It took a more balanced view of the situation than I expected, and Claire Danes was fantastic in it.

And I loved Susan Sarandon (Mimi)'s line:

Right before she takes the drugs that kill her: "Igby, you do know that D.H. is your father, right?"

Igby: "Yeah."

Mim: "Well, OK then." Continues eating drug cocktail.

That's probably misquoted, but you know what I mean.

They should cite this movie in the dictionary for the definition of incorrigible.

Jeff Goldblum also does a great job portraying the arrogant NY billionaire.

It's out in small theatres here, I just saw it last week and enjoyed it as well.

Didn't Igby say no?

Sarandon then followed up with "Oh. Well, good thing I told you before it was too late" (paraphrased)

Yes, Petter is correct - that's the reason why the line is so funny.

Found the movie surprisingly good and emotionally on point. Igby is a prick, but I felt like I understood how that came about - it is an interesting and credible portrayal of the perverse implications of privilege.

What was also interesting was that we saw it very soon after seen Tadpole - basically the same setting, but a different story about a boy coming to terms with his crush on his step-mom. Not as good at Igby, but also very good.
