View Full Version : On average, how much beer is consumed in your household?

There are two adults in my household and we average a six every two days Monday thru Thursday and one six a day for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Unless we make it to the beer specialty store for the weekend. Then we drink less because some of those imported beers have a real kick.
How 'bout you?

We don't like any kind of beer, so our consumption is pretty much zero.
I have a couple of bottles in the bottom of the pantry - hubby likes to boil bratwursts in beer. But that's the extent of it.

My husband and I drink a beer each a night, maybe two for him. Some nights we'll have wine instead, some nights we won't drink any alcohol.
It's hard to guess exactly how much beer is consumed, because I don't buy all of my beer. I homebrew beer, so every month or two, I'll churn out ~5 gallons of beer = ~40 pint bottles - but usually less due to not bottling the lees. Now that I have more pint bottles, I'll probably brew a bit more often. So we have a mix of homebrew and commercial brew in the house, and I can't just say "well, we buy a case every two weeks" or whatever.
About a 12 pack per year.
Expand this beyond beer though and I'm gonna embarass myself.

2 adults: two six packs and 3 bottles of wine for the year.
Plus a couple of slugs of 'medicinal whiskey' as gargle when there wer sore throats.

I still live at home, and my parents enjoy their beer.. lol, although I don't like it at all. It depends if its hunting season or any other kind of holiday where my dad would have time off, but on average I'd say maybe a 24 per week.

If we're staying in, on each weekend evening I would get an 8-pack and a 6-pack (that's 500ml per can - i.e. 16 fl oz) for me and mrs jjimm. Weeknights we tend to avoid booze, but if we do have a few beers on a Thursday or something we'd probably only have 4 or 5 each. So an average week maybe 36 large cans.
I think I win so far.
You're right, that's not good, is it?
Well between my brother and myself, we tend to average 12 per night... figure we take a break at least 2 nights a week, so no more then 10 6 packs per week.

Maybe a six pack a year. My husband and I just aren't big drinkers.

I live alone and have a beer only occasionally after work or on a weekend. Usually if I'm in a beer-drinkin' mood, I'll seek out a brew pub somewhere.
I usually end up buying a new 12-pack every month or so, often to sample whatever seasonal has been released by Pyramid or Weinhard's or similar brewers.

I have a beer a night. My consumption has steadily dwindled since an all time high, in my 20's, at probably six or eight a night, among other chemical additives.
Just last Saturday I attended a memorial service for a good buddy who deliberately drank himself to death. I don't even want to put into print how much it took for him to accomplish this task. Too sad to accept. We both, as good Wisconsin boys, began drinking beer at about 13.

A 24 at home, some beers at the pub weekly is average but that`s not our drink of choice.

My husband and I drink 2 or 3 most nights, though sometimes we'll have a coupla glasses of wine instead. It probably takes us a week and a half to go thru a case of 24, sooner if we have company.

Not as much as I'd like! We go through about six-pack and a half a week. Both of us usually have a drink with dinner, sometimes more. It depends a lot on what we're cooking. Mexican food? Beer. Lasagna? Wine.

I usually have 1 or 2 and my wife 1 most nights, but some nights none. If I'm feeling impish, I might drink 3 or 4. So, on average, I'd say we down about 12-16 a week

Zero...actually I still have a can of Miller Genuine Draft a friend left on Halloween night. If they produced a commercial Guinness product which even approached what you get on tap, it would be a different story.

I'm with lieu and Phlosphr. Beer consumption approaches zero cans per year, but a fair amount of wine and liquor is consumed.

I'm a 25 year old living with my parents (again, for now). My father is a recovering alcoholic, and my mother has hereditary cirhossis of the liver.
My 22 year old sister still lives here, but we both work full time. She's got a bar fridge full of beer in her basement. On average, I would guess that maybe 2 a week get drunk. We simply don't like to drink at home because of our parents.
We'll see if that changes when I move back out on my own next month though.
There are myself and three other college students living in this house. I don't really drink (other than a little wine here and there), but the others go through about 12/week or so total.

My wife drinks a beer maybe once every other week; I can't stand the stuff.

I drink more or less beer depending on the weather and what I'm doing. If Mr Geek and I are playing cards or board games, we'll drink more, but if I'm drawing or reading or we're playing video games we tend not to drink or to drink mixed drinks. The Mr. likes a drink or two after work some nights... and right now it's nog season, so he's drinking more than usual. If it's hot, we'll drink more beer because it's more refreshing.
Of course, we have a lot of alky in the house because Mr works for a liquor store, so we get everything at cost.
I'd say, on average over an entire year, we drink 15-20 six packs (usually Guiness or Murphy's) and 7 or 8 bottles of hard alcohol.

My sister in law left a six pack here 4th of July, and there are still four cans left. Guess that's not much beer.
On the other hand, if we're out club hoppin' Jack and Coke is the order of the night, and a dozen or so may be consumed 'ere the sun rises....

Tend to go through 2-3 big bottles of Tsingtao a day. Those are the 22 oz bottles. I tend to drink less if it's a good microbrewery beer.

When we (my wife and I) have beer in the house, we'll go through 12 in a week. But there are long stretches where we don't have any beer in the house. Together we probably drink around 100 beers / year.

During the winter my spouse and I don't drink much beer, but now that the traditional hot Australian summer is upon us, we would probably buy a carton (24 cans) of beer which would last us probably about 3 days. Over weekends, though we'd probably consume the 24 cans in two days.
We also drink red and white wine as well as Port occasionally.
Geez! Somewhere in there we actually fit in time to eat, as well! :D

Zero. In fact our alcohol consumption period is pretty close to zero.
My family occasionally enjoys a margarita or 3 on birthdays etc. But it probably averages out to about a drink or two a year for each of us.

My bf would have 1 beer each evening when he gets home from work. I stick to a few glasses of wine during the weekend, and a brandy after dinner. No alcohol for me during the week. It makes me feel too tired.

Two or three years ago my numbers would have been staggering (pun intended), but nowadays we've settled down a bit, what with being fairly broke and having a kid.
Typically, we buy no beer during the regular week, and I bring home either a 12 or 18-pack Friday after work. We share, and usually it lasts us, well, until Saturday. If we have a lot of spare cash or are bored or something, we sometimes get more for Saturday and Sunday (I love beer and Football). Not always, though.

We have two adults in our household and one 17 year old who whom we allow to drink at home. We drink beer more often than not, but will occasionally have a mixed drink (my husband likes Rum and Coke; I like a nice Southern Comfort Sour) or a glass of wine. My husband has 1 or 2 drinks a night during the week and 3 - 4 on Saturday. I don't have a drink every night -- maybe 4 or 5 a week. Nick probably averages about 4 drinks a week, as well. So that's, what? 23 drinks a week? That sounds about right, since I buy 2 cases of beer every grocery day, and I grocery shop twice a month. I buy a case of Kevin's brand (Miller Genuine Draft) and a case of mine (usually Mich Light, although I like Rolling Rock Light if I can get it). Nick will usually take one of mine when he has one, and when Kevin's finished off his own case, he drinks mine until I buy more of his.

I rarely ever drink when I'm at home, but when I go to a friend's house I always bring something with me. It's either a six-pack or a twelve-pack; I usually consume about 8 beers in an evening and I wish I could find beer in an eight-pack to accommodate me. In the summer I may buy a six-pack of a summer ale to have around because it's so fucking hot here and there's nothing like coming home to a cold beer after work.

On a "per-person" basis, I doubt it. All by myself, I quaff 10-12 liters a week (more during college football season and "special events"). I homebrew, and if I don't brew 5 gal. (18-19 liters) every other week, I run out.
Someone once said, "Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy". Well, I'm pretty happy.
We don't drink that much at home. I'd say a six pack lasts a week or two, depending. We probably also drink a bottle of wine per week.

sounds like I'm middle of the pack here. 2-4 a night for me, and the wife likes a couple towards the weekend, so add 8 a week for her. a case and a half (36) a week I guess.

My wife and I put away a bottle of wine a night, when the evening meal calls for wine. If I feel it's a beer meal, I'll have two while she drinks a half bottle of wine. Rarely, she drinks beer along with me...last night she did, because I made jerk chicken.
I generally go to the big beer store once every two months and buy four cases (24 bottles or cans) or so. Plus little treats, like sixes of Red Stripe or Rebel or Sapporo.
So far, Pianola and little Banjo aren't drinking any beer at all. That I know of.
Speaking of the big beer store, Biggirl, what happened to the place on the SW corner of 12th Street and Fourth Avenue? Did they close down? Every time I go past, the gates are down.

When I was living on my own, about 3-4 sixpacks a week, judging by pitcher-equivalents.
After living with my fiancee, and up until a few months ago, about a sixpack a week unless Cerowyn is in town (a drink or two on the weekends, and about 3 or 4 cans/week at work).
I quit drinking at the beginning of September, so I'm down to zero right now.

Depends...
Sometimes I'm at work, and my tongue is hanging out thinking about beer. I am determined to go home and knock off six or eight if them. I go home eventually, and for some reason I just have one.
Other times, I will polish off eight cans.
Other times, nothing at all.
If I'm in the mood though, I can demolish a carton (24 x 375ml 4.9%alc/vol) in about thirty-six hours alone. This is rare, but it happens. Also, if one of the lads is over at my place, the carton may well go in one evening, and we go out to buy more.
I just got back from a doctor's appointment. In getting my medical and life history, he asked me how much I drank. When I told him he stopped writing, looked at me wide eyed and said "In a day?"
Oops.

We have a keg refrigerator at my house, and we go through a keg about every two weeks. That is mainly my husband, though. I don't like keg-beer much.
Every two weeks we go through a keg and 2 or 3 thirty-packs of miller lite.
What's the conversion rate between cans of beer per keg??
MrTuffPaws
12-11-2003, 04:57 PM
Well, between me and MrsTuffPaws, it averages 12 a night each day of the week. That makes it about 84 individual beers each week. This does vary over time though. I go through fazes of different alcohol consumption. Kick'n' Chick'n' is a fine substitute for me, but of late, I have been sticking mostly with beer. MrsTuffPaws sticks with beer.
Alcoholics? Yes, but we are functional ;-)

Depends on the week. Sometimes I'd drink nothing in the house for the whole week.
This week I've drank 32 500ml cans of Guinness and it's not the weekend yet ;)
When I lived in a house share with two guys from my job I'd guess we went through 100 - 200 cans a week. We'd just get 4-5 crates (24cans) any time we'd got low.

With dinner, I'll either have wine, beer, water or, rarely, Coke.
Wine'll be 3 glasses or so — a third to a half a bottle, minus any wine that went into the dinner.
Beer'll be one 500ml can or bottle, or 2-3 stubby bottles of cheap French lager. I used to drink more beer than that.

As a tag team, Mrs D and I will go through a six or 12, and maybe a bottle of red most weeks.
I have been intentionally moderating my drinking the past year and a half or so, so I RARELY exceed 4 drinks per day, a total of 14 per week, or alcohol on more than 2 consecutive days. Basically the Moderation Management recommendations. My rare excesses have been at lengthy parties, holiday weekends, etc.
High consumption probably involved a base-level of 24 from the grocery every week, 2 24-ouncers on the train ride home 3-4 evenings a week, supplemented by whatever I could toss down outside of the house. The basic case was mine, and would have to be added to if we invited folks over. 6-8 every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was pretty much a given, whether I was watching TV or using a chainsaw in the yard. "Road pops" was a commonly used term. And it was not unusual to toss down a 6 before heading out to party at which I would drink heavily.
Personally, I prefer my current intake. Much cheaper too. Now I can afford to buy good beer!
